I really hope this series continues on for other franchises beyond Harry Potter, not necessarily just movie tie-ins but pretty much any multi-platform game out there.
Incredible how Flandrew goes from almost apologizing to Ron for all the abuse he put him through all series, to literally spell-kick him while he's down.
One thing nobody seems to bring up about this game when reviewing it are the multiple spell options you could pick from...I mean, they were largely interchangeable so it's not too surprising people just focused on blasting Stupefy, but 'Confringo' in particular was stupidly overpowered (it was basically sending a bomb at your enemy) and had a very short cooldown, so you could just spam that and blast through levels in seconds. The one time I played this game, I remember mowing through more than a hundred respawning Death Eaters in the final level before finally realising "...oh, wait, is this a level I'm supposed to lose?" and letting them capture me so the story could progress.
Anyone else REALLY love the graphics/aesthetics of the Deathly Hallows DS version at all? Because I sure do! There's a certain colorful charm to it all as it's more in line with the PS1 game's graphics. The graphics obviously can't be realistic so they have to stylize the characters and that's honestly the BEST way for the art direction of limited graphics to go as to make the characters and the world's settings to look charming and distinct.
You’d probably be into The Sims games for the DS, then! They had similar models/graphics with seriously bizarre storylines that were way different from the console editions.
They certainly look better than the console version graphics for me at least. The console version of this made me motion sick (probably cause of some combination of the spell controls and the graphics) so anything that doesn’t look like it would make me motion sick is a step up imo.
just wanted to say its been my dream for someone to do videos on all the different versions of each of these games as it seems every time i bring it up to a friend they just dont see the significance in that. but thats when i wanted to craft this exact series of videos you are now almost done with. Thanks for doing gods work and taking the proverbial weight off of my chest as well edit: It's weird to think that gaming companies would utilize multiple different developing teams for different products for one film, to reach a broader audience. Gaming is comparatively dead in the modern age in regards to how games are made AND how accessible they are.
yes this! I always wanted one central place to compare versions of the same game to figure out which one to buy. Thought I'd have to make videos about it myself one day, but this channel stepped in just in time
Same. I realized a few years ago that someone ought to do a video or video series on all the HP games, because there were so many different versions of each one.
A thing that I would love to see is, when Hogwarts Legacy releases, a video from you about things in HL that were in the original games (if any) and showing how they have improved them.
I've never played any of the games you've reviewed, but grew up during that time. Your videos and comments are great, I think most people would enjoy this more than playing the actual game :D
I never played the game but could've sworn one of the spells Harry could use was supposed crucio, one of the in-universe forbidden spells, and that it was basically a submachine gun. After looking it up, apparently it was in one of the previews and fans took issue so the it was changed for the final release. Good on them.
@@glicthmonkey0 I ended up finding footage from some gamin show where a dev was giving an interview and he talks about the spell arsenal, Crucio and how it was one of the Forbidden Curses and you can see it on the weapon wheel. Like I said, it was changed before release.
I'm a trophy hunter so when I played the PS3 version, naturally I played on hard to try and get all the difficulty trophies in one playthrough, as is done in most games. For whatever reason this game doesn't unlock all easy or normal trophies when you complete the game on hard. IT FORCED ME TO PLAY IT THREE TIMES. I wouldn't have minded if it was Deathly Hallows Part 2, since I actually liked that game. But part one had the stiffest shooting controls out of any shooter I'd ever played. Also a glitch occurred early on which made my controller vibrate non-stop until I stopped playing, for what ever reason I finished it like that.
I get so amped everytime I see a notification for the next one of these videos! It's a shame that I feel like there is so much more fun to be had in most of the earlier games, particularly 1-3 and their various version than there are in the rest, but it is what it is. I do think it would have been awesome though if 4-7 could have had games that followed in the footsteps of the first 2 or 3 PS2 games though, that would have been incredible. One side note, you did call this Deathly Hallows Part 2 at the beginning of the video 😂 Everyone makes mistakes, I almost didn't say anything, but just wanted to let you know. Can't wait until we really to get to the Part 2 video 😁 Edit: I see you fixed the intro, nice touch 👍
I can't remember if I have said this before, but it could be wonderful if you made a tier list of all the Harry Potter games you have reviewed + the last ones.
Omg your videos are so funny, I never realised how bad some of these games were. I definitely prefer the first 3 and some of the gameboy colour versions. I can't believe they get worse as the series progresses aren't they supposed to get better 😂 The glitches are hilarious! The characters being used several times is very funny. Can't wait to see your last vid just for the giggles and pure entertainment🤣
I grew up with the first games on PS1, but it would take a loooong time before I got my hands on an Xbox 360, around by the time the Xbox One was coming out. So I didn't know much of what modern games were supposed to be like, and when I got my hands on this game I just... couldn't play it for more than 15 minutes. But I kept playing because I thought "I guess this is what games are now." Also hearing that nice HP1 for the GBA music at 8:30 really made me smile. Another great vid, Drew!
Despite how boring and repetitive Deathly Hallows is as a game, I can’t help but find the Goblet of Fire to be worse. At least you knew DH wouldn’t be like the other games due to Hogwarts only being a factor during the last portion of the story. With GoF however, we had three wonderful adventure games that could of easily been repeated… however EA decided to make it different and overall worse game. There was no expectation with DH to be like the others, but GoF had no reason not to be like the previous games.
Yeah I totally agree, in my opinion gof is worse than the third person call of duty games we got as the 7.movie games😅 I was able to have at least some kinda fun with the deadly hallows games and they were a product of their time, when battlefield and call of duty were at the top of the gaming community
GOF was by far the worse, and not just because of wonky, boring gameplay. You don't even get to see a single Durmstrang or Beauxbatons student the whole game, 20% of the book plot is removed, and the open-ended Hogwarts of HP1-3 and 5-6 got shafted for isometric levels. It was ridiculous.
I haven't played Goblet of Fire game in a LONG time but even still I feel like the game is nowhere as "bad" as you people make it out to be as it was still a fun, but different, co-op gameplay experience to play along side the trio with. It''s not phenomenal or anything but I still feel like Goblet of Fire can still be a joy to play and not as "worse" as you people make it out to be. Edit: And the Deathly Hallows game isn't THAT "boring and repetitive" I'd say. It was fun overall and not at all "boring" but yeah it can kinda be repetitive when your just doing the same thing essentially throughout the whole experience with not much of a mix-up.
So if i expected DH to be a survival rpg with crafting then it would be worse than GOF because it didnt hold up to my expectations? Nah, this game is absolutely dreadful. This game has the charm of a rotting corpse, all characters are literal robots without facial animations, it's incredibly repetitive, there is 0 coherence in story, like 2 dialogues in the whole game. GoF has most of that but at least characters in it are somewhat charming. Both are button mashers so no use in putting one above the other in terms of gameplay.

I’d say his review still holds up as they really do feel like it’s Harry Potter meets call of duty sometimes and I still find it funny you could beat the game almost as fast as watching the movie because you could just run past enemies and move on to the next level.

@@PrincessFelicie well this has actually had the time and effort put in instead of being rushed out and it’s the first Harry Potter game without EA plus I’d say Avalanche Software will give us a worthy Hogwarts game that’s actually worth our money and time. And if I get it on PS5 that’s 2 copies of the game for the price of one. It’s also gonna be the first Harry Potter game to let us fully use dark/forbidden magic.
I loved playing the first two both on playstation and on Gameboy, but it's such a shame to see how simplified this series got. Going from magical atmosphere and a literally rpg to just run of the mill cover shooter breaks my heart.
I've honestly never been a fan of any of the games post-Prisoner of Azkaban. I think it would've been better if the 4-7 games had kept the gameplay of the first three games but just built on the gameplay. And I'd have been curious to see how 7 would've implemented spell challenges had they gone in that direction.
Thank you for your great work as always! Dedicating quite a bit of your time to play these games for our viewership is a always appreciated, especially on how you carefully explain the differences between these games. Just one more game and I'm looking forward to that as well. Keep up the good work 👏
I'm genuinely curious what your subscriber count has looked like since you started making these videos. They're incredibly interesting and they're what got me to subscribe.
I'd never owned any of the HP games growing up as the books and films came out. (Except Quidditch World Cup on the GBA. Probably why I didn't bother.) However, I've really been enjoying this series - so much so that I decided to finally scratch a 25-year old itch and buy Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets on GBC. Might have to add this one to my DS collection; I bet it's dirt cheap. Thanks for all your insight and analysis so far - looking forward to the finale!
"You know how the one thing everyone liked about the other games was being able to explore Hogwarts, one of the most popular fictional settings ever?" "Yea." "What if they didn't get to do that." "Jim you're a genius."
I attempted this on my Wii and man was this a struggle. Since it had a graphical downgrade, it was hard to see half the time where I'm going. And too much third person shootouts and first person sneaking missions. To give the Wii version some credit, at least the motion controls were decent in this one. Well, comparing them to the previous titles. I must say that this channel is both nostalgic and educational at the same time. Which makes this some entertaining content, mixed in with humor. I love it.
Am I wrong for thinking that a death stranding-esque road trip/camping focused game would have worked better here? Resource management (potion ingredients, keeping warm with clothes/fire/magic, etc.) would have leveraged the slim plot into a more gameplay focused experience. If they'd kept the better looking character style from Half-Blood Prince it would have been perfect imo.
I know I'm in the minority but I LOVED deathly hallows part 1 on 360 and pc, the thought of a Harry Potter shooter was just so fun for me back when it was released.
Chapters: 0:00 Intro 0:38 PlayStation 3/Xbox 360/PC 5:52 Nintendo Wii 6:12 Nintendo DS 8:25 Mobile 9:22 Conclusion (Feel free to copy this into the video description to create TH-cam chapters)
Really enjoying your video's 👌 Especially the ones of the different versions of the Harry Potter games 🧙♂️ I grew up playing them on multiple consoles 💫 Looking forward to your Deathly Hallows part 2 video 💫 Will you be doing a video on the Harry Potter Quidditch world cup game ? It was released on multiple consoles too 💫 Also it would be awesome if you do a series of videos on the Lord of the rings games 👌 The Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and the Return of the King 💫 Thanks again for your video's 👏 Looking forward to your future content 💫
I think it's interesting to look at the different priorities of each version of the game when you compare them like this. The flagship version was obviously more interested in showing off nice graphics and flashy gameplay, while the DS version was focusing more on the story due to hardware limitations. There's a good game somewhere there if you combine the two.
This has been such a great series! Not sure if you've ever played the games, but seeing these console version differences for the Sims series would be quite fun next.
Love this series! Would love if you covered Star Wars Revenge Of The Sith! One of my all time favourite games! its released on 5 different consoles i believe
I’m so glad you talked about this! I love the HP games but I was really disappointed with DH1 - I play the HP games for the open world exploration/adventure element. If I wanted to play a shooter game, I’d play Call of Duty or something!
Will you be doing Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup as well? I'm sure the versions won't be that different, but that game feels as much as part of the series to me as the numbered entries and I'd love to see it get it's own video. Great job as always, by the way!
Except dartford tunnel looks colourful inside and also creepy but i guess they put it how they did in the movie bc it was filmed in kingsway tunnel in Liverpool lol so yeh
After watching all the other parts (I think) this might be the best one for me… but it could also just be that the deatheater flipendo joke really landed with me
It was so infuriating using the invisibility cloak and seeing that the NPCs were programmed to run DIRECTLY into you, regardless of your own movement. Which led to an absurd sort of counter-dance in those sections that let me quit the game relatively early, without finishing it.
Always find it really interesting how the harry potter games perfectly encapsulated the era when movie tie in games were common and the popular thing to do, with the fist few games being peek examples of how to do them. Then going all the way through to the final 2 games which came out when movie tie in games were essentially dying out. Now it's an interesting era to look back on because since you just don't get movie tie in games like that any more. The main games industry has mostly moved on to making their own adaptations of established franchises rather than just adapting movies. Case in point: With Harry Potter their making Hogwarts Legacy with an original story/setting rather than making games out of the Fantastic Beasts films (no matter the opinion of those films).
@Flandrew at the beginning of the video, 0:06 you say deathly hallows part 2 but you're reviewing part 1. I was a little confused if I missed the part 1 video when I heard that at first, but realized you just misspoke. 😂
I never finished the game back then because I couldn't pass the Ministry mission with the dementors. However I liked the games even if they were not that good and deathly hollows 2 was much fun to me. Hope to see the video on that when it's time
Hey Flandrew. Throughout my time being sick. I found your channel. I love every video you had especially the DBZ saga for the Gameboy. I was wondering if you were willing to do a review on the DBZ games that came out for psp. Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai: Another Road. This is by far one of my favorite games growing up. I hope you got a chance to play it.
I actually like the Deathly Hollows games. Sure they're kind of generic TPS cover shooters (and the first one has bad first person stealth), but I had fun with them.
I used to own this game. I mainly only got it to go with my new Kinect for XBOX 360. The sneaking around sections were my least favorite part of the game, because I kept failing them. I did like the first-person shooter aspect because it wasn't something I was used to at the time, so it gave me a nice challenge. Also, I thought the environments were really well designed, so it was worth it to explore and appreciate. And I do think it made some sense given the darkness of the final two films. However, it didn't really feel like a Harry Potter game to me.
Really enjoy this series, played the 2 first games on pc/ps1 & 2, didn't know philosophers stone was release for ps2 after chambers, played goblet a little bit but it was so boring i never finished, but thank you for the insight into the games.
Looking forward to what you have to say about Deathly Hallows part 2. On another note, a video comparison of James Bond: The World is Not Enough might be something up your alley. While N64 and PS1 versions are both first person shooters, both are made by different developers, and because of that the games are distinctly different. Then, there's the Gameboy Colour version, which is an action-adventure game. Cheers. ^^
I remember quite liking this game as a kid. I never got past the stealth section in the ministry though (at least I think it was the ministry), and very quickly gave up and traded my copy in for Halo 4, another game I didn’t much enjoy. Sad times for 12 year old me
It's funny, I've played all of the Harry Potter games save for Sorcerers Stone and Deathly Hallows. Played everything in between the first and last games.
I played the ds version as a kid and I enjoyed playing it. I got the 360 version a month ago when I got a 360 at a flea market for $20! And the 360 version I do enjoy playing

Dedicating quite a bit of your time to play these games for our viewership is a always appreciated, especially on how you carefully explain the differences between these games. Just one more game and I'm looking forward to that as well. Keep up the good work 👏
More of this harry potter content even if its the same videos rehashed absolutely love these videos of yours, keep them up.
I'm genuinely curious what your subscriber count has looked like since you started making these videos. They're incredibly interesting and they're what got me to subscribe.
I was at about a thousand subs when I made the first one, and it took about 5 months for it to get picked up by the algorithm
Or 20. I can't do maths. The book was 25 years ago, I know what I meant.
Had no clue there was a DS version. Looks pretty cool tho
Oh boy we have finally reached the nadir
The movie was like a road movie for the most part. They should've made this something like an open world traveling or survival game.
Didn't the Xbox 360 version have Kinect support?
"You know how the one thing everyone liked about the other games was being able to explore Hogwarts, one of the most popular fictional settings ever?"
"Yea."
"What if they didn't get to do that."
"Jim you're a genius."
to be fair i think thats also how rowling must have pitched the book
Best series on TH-cam!
I never played this one but its sucessor and i loved playing it lmao i have fond memories of it
Same except I had the ps3 version. I loved it and part 2.

Babe wake up, Flandrew just dropped another comparison video.
Thank you, yes I’m probably going to do lots of the rings next
@@Flandrew Awesome 🤘
I think it's interesting to look at the different priorities of each version of the game when you compare them like this. The flagship version was obviously more interested in showing off nice graphics and flashy gameplay, while the DS version was focusing more on the story due to hardware limitations. There's a good game somewhere there if you combine the two.
0:07 what's with the weird cut?
You should compare every version of The Sims 2
Really, really enjoying your content
In the Intro, you say part 2 instead of part 1. But as always, great video with a nice touch of humour 👌
The Wii version was a cool way to kill time before homework. I liked the previous year better.
This game and pc prisoner of askaban is my favourite Harry Potter games goblet of fire kinda nostalgic also
3:45 We all know why Ron and Hermione left. Because Ron does not want more things thrown at him, obviously.
man i fucking love these videos
Never played the games, no love for Harry Potter, still going to enjoy the new Flandrew video
This has been such a great series! Not sure if you've ever played the games, but seeing these console version differences for the Sims series would be quite fun next.
Love this series! Would love if you covered Star Wars Revenge Of The Sith! One of my all time favourite games! its released on 5 different consoles i believe
Yes, another awesome video!!!
Great job as always, by the way!
i love this guy, this is a great series
Except dartford tunnel looks colourful inside and also creepy but i guess they put it how they did in the movie bc it was filmed in kingsway tunnel in Liverpool lol so yeh
After watching all the other parts (I think) this might be the best one for me… but it could also just be that the deatheater flipendo joke really landed with me
The deathly hallows games (or Harry Potter and The Gears of War: Modern Warfare) are the only ones I never played :/
It was so infuriating using the invisibility cloak and seeing that the NPCs were programmed to run DIRECTLY into you, regardless of your own movement. Which led to an absurd sort of counter-dance in those sections that let me quit the game relatively early, without finishing it.
The worst and most infuriating part of this game is not that it's too hard, it's just that the mechanics are completely broken
Very good 😊
Make part2
And Lego Games after Lego Batman 😍
Always find it really interesting how the harry potter games perfectly encapsulated the era when movie tie in games were common and the popular thing to do, with the fist few games being peek examples of how to do them. Then going all the way through to the final 2 games which came out when movie tie in games were essentially dying out.
Now it's an interesting era to look back on because since you just don't get movie tie in games like that any more. The main games industry has mostly moved on to making their own adaptations of established franchises rather than just adapting movies.
Case in point:
With Harry Potter their making Hogwarts Legacy with an original story/setting rather than making games out of the Fantastic Beasts films (no matter the opinion of those films).
I don’t want this series to end!
@Flandrew at the beginning of the video, 0:06 you say deathly hallows part 2 but you're reviewing part 1. I was a little confused if I missed the part 1 video when I heard that at first, but realized you just misspoke. 😂
A remaster of this series on next gen consoles would be 🔥🔥🔥
Imagine being a death eater one the most dangerous geezers around and you get smashed to death by a glass bottle with some magic liquid in it
I have a confession, as a kid, I loved this game, I don't know why. Now I look back on it in anger
I never finished the game back then because I couldn't pass the Ministry mission with the dementors. However I liked the games even if they were not that good and deathly hollows 2 was much fun to me. Hope to see the video on that when it's time
May i recommend a topic? The last airbender games. They're mostly decent, but each one it's his own beast.
What a coincidence, I tried to buy this today! Love this video series so much
Hey Flandrew.
Thanks, yeah I wanted to do a comparison video of all the budokai games including the psp ones
@@Flandrew I can't wait to see your video and take your time 😊
Personally, I believe that the best out of all of the Harry Potter movie tie-in games is the LEGO one.
Can't wait for you to compare Deathly Hallows Part 2 game to this game
At this point I'm watching these to see how Flandrew will bully Ron this time. Nah but seriously I love this series
Love that midi Smooth Criminal!
I actually like the Deathly Hollows games. Sure they're kind of generic TPS cover shooters (and the first one has bad first person stealth), but I had fun with them.
Nice. Back again for some more Harry Potter
I remember my playthrough took 9 hours and I was lastly annoyed for all filler missions. I called them as side missions which are not optional.
The 360 version did also have a Kinect mode. It was an on rails mode you could play with a friend.
You should do another video for the XBOX Kinect port of Deathly Hallows and the Kinect game for the whole series
Hey dude. This is a great series.
Does a playlist exist for it?
Thanks, yes all the playlists are on my channel under the playlist tab
Is this the one with the KINECT controls? I honestly kinda enjoyed it with that.
Really enjoy this series, played the 2 first games on pc/ps1 & 2, didn't know philosophers stone was release for ps2 after chambers, played goblet a little bit but it was so boring i never finished, but thank you for the insight into the games.
You should do a ranking list of the best versions of each game against each other after the final game.
Cheers. ^^
I think that, since this video was so short, you could've presented both parts. I am looking forward to the last video in this series
Played everything in between the first and last games.
yyyyyEEEEESSSSSSS Another compare video!
Why does the cloak make everything blurry? You're invisible Harry, not drunk.
I played the ds version as a kid and I enjoyed playing it. I got the 360 version a month ago when I got a 360 at a flea market for $20! And the 360 version I do enjoy playing
