just want to reiterate that I used the armada ARV 116 JJ for 3 seasons and that ski only. before that, I used the armada al dente 98 for 3 seasons. you don't need a big quiver of skis to progress and enjoy the mountains. this is the first season I've ever had more than one ski in my quiver. I believe it makes sense from a business standpoint (ie writeoffs) and an entertainment/value standpoint on the creative end. let me know if you have any questions!
I think this is great, and I love seeing the quiver! One idea: (and just take with a grain of salt) you probably could either 1) get sponsored or 2) do ski reviews (ie…get free skis and do a review. Perhaps see Ginger Runners TH-cam channel on running shoes as a model). I think you probably have a great reach and people would respect your views on skis as authentic/no BS. Anyway, love the channel!
i am glad that i watched this video today.. i am planning on skiing tomorrow and i was going to use a different ski but i think that i am going to stick with the ski that i used the last time.. i am still trying to figure out that ski..
Was a K2 guy until I bought a pair of Armada’s on a whim. Best decision I’ve ever made regarding skis. The quality is unmatched and the engineering is top notch. Sold the K2’s and now just have the Armada 88 C’s, the Declivity 102 Ti’s, and ARV 106’s. Gets the job done! Great video as always. Thanks Lucas!
Lucas - appreciate the Armada review. Specifically, your assessment discussing the cost savings and your comment about “being a loyal consumer”. Refreshing to hear such an honest and humble review. I’m a fan and love sharing your passion with friends. All the best….(keep ‘‘‘em stoked!)
In 1967, I bought a pair of Head 360's, my first top of the line ski. Pappa Joe might remember them. It was back when length mattered. Back then, nobody paid attention to width. In deep powdaaahh, you skied in it. A few decades later came parabolic skies. You still skied in it. A decade thereafter width was discovered. And we started on top of it. Still to this day, my favorite experience was riding the first Snowbird chair after a 2 day interlodge and launching into the Cirque with powder up to my shoulders and Volkl P10's (toothpicks) gliding deep down under.
Armada pick this man up! I got some Bentchetler 120s for Japan in a few weeks and M6 Mantras for everything else :D I'd be sick seeing you on a bunch of different skis one day. Maybe demoing a bit of everything could make a cool video if you need content ideas.
Love, love, LOVE it!! So glad you made this video. Especially since you're an independent voice of how your experience with certain gear actually went down.
Terrific video! U did a fantastic job integrating info coupled with super fun and authentic ski clips....btw Tell Lane I like and use the Declivity 102's for tighter snow and all mtn skiing esp steep chutes.
I have the same Al Dente's I actually got my hands on a Prototype pre production ski. I have been riding them since feb of 2017 so before they released the fleet. Great Ski it is a little stiffer due to the carbon stringers in comparison to the E Dollo but it truly is incredible. Wish I didn't roast the edges on all the rails though. Great Collection though Lucas thanks for sharing it.
I like the point you made about learning how to ski the ski. My quiver in the PNW is a Nordica 104 free and a K2 116c. Totally different skis that I have to ski differently. Makes it fun mixing it up. Utah fully supports the 120+ range this year.. Yeeeeeew!!!
Those pow skis are crazy. Starting to look like water skis. Ha! I ride a 108 underfoot and enjoy that all over the mountain in upwards of 18” new snow. It works great. Maybe I don’t know what I’m missing. But my PNW pow is different from yours. Thanks for sharing.
Hey, have you ever tried the magic j( Thanner Hall model)? I think it's out of production now. It was the wider ski in their collection before the arg's Been loving them so far and ripping trough everything even though they are 126 under foot
i never tried it but thats how i ended up finding the arg. i wanted to pick up the magic J but saw they didnt make it anymore and was essentially redirected to the arg haha
@@LucasCatania17 If you have the possibility i recommend to pick a used pair cause they are super fun in the pow and even good around the groomers (very playful) I think just like the jj's but beefiers :) Been loving your content lately keep it up
Great discussion on your diverse and impressive Armada collection. Understandable that you need multiple skis as you're on the mountain every day with different terrains and variable conditions. BTW, this season I just upgraded from 80 to 96 under foot! Guess I have a long way to go to catch up with you! 😂
i'm having premature releases on the right ski. just picked up the 106 in a 188cm length and putting tyrollia attacks on it th-cam.com/video/ziRYcW-Ul6w/w-d-xo.html
for me both keep releasing but it happens more on the right and i'm too scared to crank the din way up. My heel comes out almost every time I try and butter.
It’s not exactly the same ski. It has a whole different core - caruba core vs poplar ash and the sidewall is a lot thinner. I’m my opinion, it is a bit less resilient and durable compared to the normal JJ. It’s made more for touring/backcountry conditions
Hey Lucas, I honestly don't see how you find the time to do everything in a day and still make the content. By the way are you waxing or tuning your skis in the van or getting a shop to do that? Do you use boot dryers, if so what brand? Keep up the great work.
i appreciate that man. i dont really tune my skis to be honest but if i do, ill have a shop do it here in pc. and i dont use any boot dryers. thanks for watching man

Hey Lucas, love your videos! Question for you on a pair of skis you dad was on earlier in the season... the Declivity 102s. Does he still get on those at all, or was he just on them because it was earler in the season? It's a ski I've been looking at as a OSQ and am curious on what his take/thoughts are on them, and yours too if you've happened to ski them. Thanks much!
Lane, I own the Declivity 102 skis and use them as my daily driver here on the east coast. They are an all around great ski. They carve extremely well, you can totally lay trenches with them. They are good in the trees, very light swing weight. Very lively and playful. I had them out west last year in about a foot of powder and they were awesome. Anything deeper and you will want something wider obviously. Hope this helped.
@@chriskutlina5743 Hey Chris, thanks for the reply and input... def does help. Have been curious how solid/stable the 102 is, and how well this ski performs in bumps, trees, chutes, etc. I've skied a K2 MB 99, and it has unbelievable edge grip... def rails and plows thru chop/crud like nothing, is decent in pow, but perhaps not the most nimble in bumps/trees when conditions are firm.

Which would you recommend for a pow ski? The OG Arv JJ or the Whitewalker 116? I’m 6’3” 215. Aggressive skier but would say I’m intermediate on powder and probably advanced to expert everywhere else.
Hey Lucas, looking at buying a used pair of ARG II. How are these when the pow day starts to get cut up, a bit skied out? Do they charge through the cut up more setup snow without getting deflected? All day powder ski. Thanks
any chance you've tried the JJ 116 UL? Graphics are a matter of taste and I'm really not a fan of the deer/elk. Previously had the Bent Chetler 120 so I'm used to a really light pow ski. Guys on the freeride world tour are using the UL so just weighing my options there. Thanks in advance!
Haven’t used them. Caruba core vs poplar ash. A lot smaller sidewall. A bit less resilient and durable compared to the standard JJ for resort skiing. Looks like a sick ski just not for me
I swear in your preseason gear video you spoke about only wanting a one-ski quiver because it takes out any decision making for daily conditions? what happened?
I’d buy a bunch at that, add in business write off, actually that’s a tame quiver all things considered. Plus he puts a lot of days on each ski, and most are past their prime.
It's end of season sales, plus you can buy demo skies in the area. I live in the Park City Area and there are lots of sales around here and in the Salt Lake Valley.
Golfers use a lot of different clubs around the golf course so why can't skiers use a lot of different skis on the ski hill? Ideally you might want to use different skis for different runs on the same day. I would think you could hire a "ski caddy" at Deer Valley who could tote your entire quiver from run to run and you could choose which skis were best for each run.
I am on Armadas since the beginning. My favorite ski in the line is the whitewalker. So I naturally bought the whitewalker 121. But I am a bit confused. The 116 whitewalker is a stiff ski, stiffer than the JJ. But the 121 seems to have a really soft tail. Way too soft for for big landings. Armada says the stiffness is the same as the 116 ww. Definitely not mine. Its borderline unusable. I wonder whether I bought a broken ski?
@@LucasCatania17 Ok thank you for the response, so it is supoosed to be that way. Do you struggle on larger cliff drops, like >30 feet? I find them really difficult for landings.
