    What an age of wonders we live in... The once near-mythical, utterly-unapproachable person of Robert Fripp now gives us private guitar lessons on his mind-melting technique, then we are invited to share in his warm homecoming -- truly the world is now small...

      I was thinking about that the other day. We have SO much more access to artists now than when I was young. We had well basically . . none, other than going to a concert.
      It's mind boggling I can leave a comment on the channel of the genius who played guitar on 'Scary Monsters' and 'Heroes' albums. He won't read it but I can say it.
      Viva la Internet 😃

      @@joethelion6016lnteresting that you mention "Scary Monsters" just two days ago for my own amusement l figured out the the guitar work, found a drum program and proceeded. The thing that really lost me are the effect setting during the verse. It's different than the reverb soaked solo but there is a treatment there that has me baffled (though no problems with the playing l'm not that effect savy). Any ideas?

    • @joethelion6016
      @joethelion6016 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MichaelRoy-hc3lz I'm piano and vocals, guitars and synths are not my strong point though obviously I have a great appreciation for those who can play guitar like Fripp.
      Are you talking about the title track as opposed to the whole sublime album?

      @@joethelion6016 First of all l like your name's reference to the Bowie song. I was referring to the effects he's using in this video. That singing almost violin-like sustain that sounds like it traveled a thousand miles to get to your ear. I know he uses the Eventide 3500 in his rack but l think what he has on his pedal board holds the formula for his 2024 tone. It would be interesting to know what gear he used back in the 70s when he was working with Eno and Bowie. On the track "Scary Monsters" on the solo it's a simple bit of gain and reverb but when the verse is sung there is an effect l can't put my finger on. It's also in the first "It's No Game" it almost sounds like Belew's elephant noise off "Disipline "

      @@MichaelRoy-hc3lz Thanks.
      I'm not sure I can help but I think I know the effect you refer to. It features heavily on the Scary Monsters intro. Like a sort of bellowing synth sound.
      I like Fripp's sustained screaming guitar effect throughout that album very much, on It's No Game it is brutal but marvellous . He does it on the Heroes album as well.

    Robert toured record stores many years ago after the release of Exposure and I was one of a small group sitting on the floor taking it all in. He played his guitar with tape loops and it was transcendent. I never understood why a guitar God would want to interact with the common folk, but I will always be grateful.

    It's so great to see such a great player practising and making mistakes. Not out of Schadenfreude ('Heh heh, I knew he wasn't that good'), but because it lights up the distance between my own level as a player and his, however incredibly long that is, and makes that distance seem at least conceivable, instead of inconceivable.

    hello Robert, thank you so much for these tutorials and greetings from a fan since 1982 and member of the not very immediate family who was present at the last rehearsal at Tring in 2015 and a bass/Stick player who learned most of 3:20 3:20 my technique from watching the 1984 Japan concert on VHS and putting a mirror next to the TV screen; now, on to my comment: obviously trying to "clean up" a faulty or old position is quite difficult, especially for the right hand. One major aspect that I have not seen covered in these videos so far is that of the posture. I can plainly see that you have excellent posture but the one thing I just noticed today is that you hold the guitar between your legs, having to relocate everything a bit more to the left of the body, which, after three back surgeries is far from ideal for me. I am aware that everyone should take what is good for them and discard other things but discarding aspects will create conflict with the overall concept of learning from your technique; for example, I could hold the guitar a bit higher for a more ergonomic approach but that would create a much narrower angle from the elbow. I will try to come up with a compromise. Any ideas will be more than welcome. Give my best to Toyah who is a charming woman!
