    These not torx fasteners they are actually called triple square look on amazon you will find them there torx will work but to be correct triple square is the right tool

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm getting old... I was basing my decision off of the video (what the tool looked like). To me it looked like my Torx bit... but my Triple Square bit looks the same (from the angle in the video). My apologies that I posted the wrong info. Send me your mailing address and I'll send you some of my channel stickers (click the fkh161 link in the description and then click on "Tool Request" to send me your info). Thank you for setting me straight... rest assured, I do know the difference between Torx & Triple square.

      Hi... me again. Looks like they WERE Torx after all. Just like this gentleman had to use.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oops... your comment slipped by me, sorry. Yes... that removal tool is key to grabbing a hold of the wires / cables. If you try to use pliers of some sort, you can break the cable or insulation and then get misfires after installing them again. The tool is worth its investment cost!

  • @DangerouslyActive

    Special thanks!!!
    Just replaced spark plugs and wires. The replacement on bottom right. Didn't need replacing. Took all the steps. Everything is running smoothly.
    Just need to know how to take off the check engine light off....

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check engine light should go out by itself... if it was on because of misfire codes. When the engine computer does not see any more misfires... it will turn the light off. You will need a scan tool to check what the codes are... there could be other codes besides misfire, that could keep the light on. Most auto parts stores will be able to scan the car for you and even clear the codes (turn the light off).

    • @DangerouslyActive

      @@EXOVCDS thnx that was my next step. Have them check, then clear it. I'm planning on buying my own for the future.

    This is the second CBPA ignition coil that I have run into that cause intermittent misfires... the coil is non-serviceable (aside from making sure that the harness plug & pins are ok). Check the wiring & fuses (as per service manual) and replace the ignition coil if no faults are found.

      When you buy plugs that are "meant for the engine" they are usually already gapped to the correct gap. For the CBPA engine, gap is listed as 0.9 to 1.1 mm in the service manual (getting one is worth the investment).

    Is there any "learning" function that the car needs to accept the new coil pack, requiring special software? Or is this just a plug-and-play part? Our dealer mentioned that they would make sure the "learning" was taken care of as part of the coil pack replacement.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Remove drain plug... remove oil filter... install oil filter and install drain plug... add oil and check oil level with dipstick. I can't remember if the bulbs push into place or if they need to be rotated. Should be easy to determine once you have access to the connector (there should be an access cover).

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check the spark plugs, if it needs them, replace them. If the spark plugs look good, check the spark plug wires & coil. If you don't want to take a chance... replace the spark plugs, coil & spark plug wires.

    • @EXOVCDS

    Dielectric grease
    Conductor of the universe.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know about that... I used Dielectric grease in my Throttle Position Sensor to combat water intrusion. TPS signal was compromised due to the "lack" of conductivity.
      Water intrusion:
      instagram.com/p/BnXhXAGAWoJ/
      Dielectric Grease:
      instagram.com/p/BnaI0J7ANjp/
      I can't find the update about removing the dielectric grease... I think I mentioned it in one of my videos though.
      So in my mind, it is NOT a good conductor... it is great for sealing spark plug boots to ignition coils & spark plugs.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Year? All sites will list a few brands / price ranges. You can't go wrong with any of them (sites or plugs) as long as the plugs are listed as being OK for your engine. Expensive plugs doesn't always mean that they are better. Pick a price point that suits you. When in doubt, go to the VW Parts department and get what the dealer uses.

      Any OBD2 scan tool... as long as there is a misfire fault code and the engine computer can detect which cylinder is misfiring, the fault code will be for that cylinder. If the engine computer only sets a generic misfire fault code (P0300), then you will have to do some investigating to determine which cylinder is causing the problem.

      I use my tool on any VW that has spark plug wires that have "pull tabs"... I have noticed that my tool is a little big on some connectors, but that does not matter as long as you hook the tool under both of the pull tabs, so that you can pull on the connector. If I have some time this weekend, I'll look what tool is listed in the CBPA service manual... and will compare it with what is listed in the A3/mk3 & A4/mk4 service info.

    • @EXOVCDS

      Not if the spark plug is still in the threads... if you don't have an air gun to blow the dirt away (you can see dust flying away as I blow), run the engine for a few seconds or crank for a few seconds to let the compression get past the threads to blow stuff away. Did you see the "mouse shit" around the spark plug in this video: th-cam.com/video/6NRbglzUkiA/w-d-xo.htmlm59s Compression alone would not get that cleared away.
