    The light colored Alcapurria is made of Cassava (Yuca) and the dark one is made of Green Plantain The food on the island is out of this world There's so many creative dishes 🇵🇷

    • @simonemartinez9927
      @simonemartinez9927 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Alcapurias are Most commonly made with green banana vs plantain. Too much plantain in the dough they will make it fry up too dry and hard difficult to digest. But if that’s what you like by all means enjoy your recipe we all tend to add or subtract from our mothers and grandmothers recipes. But The banana makes them moist and softer with a nice crunch in the outer layer

    Sancocho is a stew. I'm a bit sad that they didn't give u enough broth, but I'm still happy that you enjoyed my country's food 🇵🇷. The fried fritter he had is Alcapurria. It might've had cassava & plantains in the batter. What you're eating isn't rice & beans, it's rice & pigeon peas. We do make a rice w/ beans in it. If you do come to Puerto Rico, I hope you travel outside of the touristy area to get some of the more authentic Puerto Rican food.

      Guanime/o (Boiled dumplings/Spinners)
      Tostones (Fried Plantains)
      Arrow con gandules (Rice w/Peas)
      Pasteles (Boiled Pastels)

It is fried and made of mostly green plantains. Not everyone can make these 2 dishes good. But Puerto Rican cooks are very proud and think theirs taste the best. Alcapurria!!!! It's a masa usually made out of green bananas, or it could be yuca (cassava)... usually stuffed with ground beef. You can stuff it with any meat you like. And then it's fried! I love alcapurrias!!!! Pasteles usually boiled, and they are wrapped in a banana leaf.

    Alcapurrias are made up of yuca (cassava), yautía, and green bananas. Different grandmas or families use different combinations of root vegetables, like malanga. And some people put pumpkin in the mix.

    2 different alcapurrias, yuca (the orange tint one) and (the brown one) green banana/yautia with seasoned ground beef also called picadillo. Pasteles are softer, and prepared like tamales except they have pork, olives, garbanzo and sometimes raisins (I don't put raisins in mine) in masa, then wrapped in banana leaves and paper and you boil them until they solidify.

    Sancocho is a stew and alcapurria is like abeef pattie made with cassava,plaintains it depends. These are part of our authentic food which is eaten a lot at Christmas time.
    Coquito is a typical beverage with rum and coconut milk.

    The dough for the alcapurria could be done using plantains or cassava. And the sancocho is our version of a stew. Coquito is our version of an eggnog, just with a coconut flavor to it.

    Omg, if you go to P.R., you’ll have to visit the huts that they have along the roads where they really cook authentic foods. They also have Chucifrito, which is the Alcapurias you ate, one made from green bananas and one from Yuca. They also sell Bacalaitos, which is like a codfish fritter that is fried, Morcegia which is a blood pudding sausage which is also very tasty and let’s not forget the Regeno de Papa, which is a potatoe made into a ball with chop meat in the middle. They also sell delicious Roast Pork, served with rice, white or yellow rice and beans or with boiled green bananas or cassava. They also have Empanadas, A beef pattie made with different meats, such as beef, shrimp, chicken, beef tongue. They also sell pig feet in a specially seasoned sauce, pig ears, usually served over rice or green bananas or cassava. And their natural juices are to die for. Definitely you both need to go visit PR. Their beaches, lakes and waterfalls are amazingly beautiful.
