Why Did Jesus Have to Die? | The Authentic Catholic Answer | THEOLOGY OF THE BODY

  • Why did Jesus have to die? Death is a bodily reality. As such, the Theology of the Body provides a brilliant light on the mystery of death and, more specifically, on the hope for resurrection. Scripture tells us that death entered the world through the envy of the devil. . . So why did Christ, free from all the effects of sin, have to die? He did so in order to conquer death and restore the body to its destined glory.

Hi, my name is Belen Wong and I'm from Mexico, we love to watch your videos on TH-cam and we would like to help to spread the message of the theology of the body to people who speaks Spanish because there's not a lot of information in Spanish regarding that and also we love the way you explain things. My husband and my sister could help adding subtitles to your videos in TH-cam if you like the idea.

I never heard it quite put that way before. Very interesting. Something that continues to confound me though about the bodily resurrection is young body versus old body. If our body gets separated from our soul at twenty years old, one might regard that as a better thing than it happening at ninety years old. Does that make sense?

LEVITICUS 16:7-10,15-16,20-22 , " 7.And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
8And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.
9And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the LORD'S lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering.
10But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.
15.Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat:
16And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness.
20.And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat:
21And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:
22And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.
THE GOAT FOR THE LORD REPRESENTS JESUS CHRIST DYING FOR THE SIN THAT ADAM PUT ON ALL MEN . WE ALL COME FROM THE SEED OF ADAM ; SO WHEN ADAM BROKE THE COMMANDMENT THAT BRINGS ON DEATH , HIS SEED WAS CONDEMNED TO THAT SAME DEATH ; WHICH IS THE DEATH OF THE GRAVE : THAT IS WHY A NEW BORN BABY CAN DIE , NEVER DURING ANYTHING GOOD OR EVIL .
THE LIFE OF THE FLESH IS THE BLOOD , SO BLOOD HAD TO BE SHED BY SOMEONE STILL PERFECT BEFORE THE LORD ( FATHER ) , TO RECOVER THE ONE CONDEMNED TO THE GRAVE .
THAT IS WHY THE FATHER HAD TO PREPARE A BODY FOR JESUS , BECAUSE IF HE CAME DIRECTLY FROM THE SEED OF ADAM , HE WOULD ALREADY BE UNDER THAT SAME CONDEMNATION OF DEATH .
BY LIVING A LIFE WITHOUT TRANSGRESSING THE LAW WHICH BRINGS ON DEATH , HE WAS NOT WORTHY TO DIE ; WHICH HE DIED NOT FOR HIS SIN , BUT PAID THE PENALTY FOR THE SINS OF ADAM AND ALL OF HIS SEED .
NOW ADAM AND ALL OF HIS SEED WILL BE RESURRECTED FROM THE GRAVE ; WHICH IS THE FIRST DEATH ; BUT CAN WE LIVE WITH THE FATHER , IF WE DIED IN OUR SINS ?
THE SCAPEGOAT REPRESENTS JESUS CHRIST RESURRECTION , AND APPEARING BEFORE THE FATHER IN THE THIRD HEAVEN AS THE MEDIATOR/ INTERCESSOR , FOR THE ONES WHO REPENT OF THIER SINS WITH A SORROWFUL HEART ( MIND ) LIKE KING DAVID , THEN BELIEVE BY OBEDIENCE ; WHICH IS KEEPING THE COMMANDMENTS OF THE MEDIATOR JESUS CHRIST ; WHICH HE RECEIVED FROM THE FATHER ; THIS IS YOUR FAITH ; WHICH RECOVERS YOU FROM THE SECOND DEATH , THE LAKE OF FIRE .
ADAM CONDEMNED ALL OF HIS SEED TO THE FIRST DEATH , THE GRAVE ; BUT THE THINGS THAT WE DO OURSELVES AGAINST THE LORD COMMANDMENTS , ARE THE THINGS THAT PUT US IN DANGER OF THE SECOND DEATH , THE LAKE OF FIRE .
1 JOHN 1:5-7 , " 5.This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
JESUS DID NOT COME TO DO AWAY WITH THE LAWS OF THE FATHER , BUT TO RECOVER US BACK TO THE POINT BEFORE WE BROKE HIS LAWS ; SO THAT WE MAY OBEY THEM .
THE SCAPEGOAT IS NOT SATAN , BUT JESUS CHRIST .
LEVITICUS 23:10-11 , " 10.Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:
11And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.
    HEBREWS 10:12-14 , 12.But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
13From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
14For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
JESUS IS THE FIRSTFRUITS FROM THE DEAD , OR THE LIVE SCAPEGOAT ; WHICH MUST PRESENT HIMSELF BEFORE THE LORD ( FATHER ) , TO BE ACCEPTED FOR THE PEOPLE ( BECAME OUR HIGH PRIEST OF ATONEMENT ) : ON THE MORROW AFTER THE SABBATH .
JOHN 20:17 , 17.Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
PSALM 110:1 , 1.(A Psalm of David.) The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
I SEE TWO LORD'S HERE , THE FATHER AND THE SON .
    SHALOM !

I suppose it is assumed that the ontology of Adam - immortal - was different from the human - mortal -
As St. Paul said (I Cor 15), not all flesh is equal.
The flesh of the body of Jesus, being eternal and glorious, is only in appearance similar to ours. For it actually participates in the divine ontology.
    .........
Why did Jesus have to die?
This mystery is, I fear, more complex than the excellent explanation given here. I will just draw attention to a few aspects:
If it was man's sin that brought the curse and death upon the God-created Paradise, why is it up to God/Christ to solve a man-made problem?
How can death enter Christ's divine ontology?
It will be said that man cannot pay the price of reconciliation with God and regaining Adam's immortal ontology. It is precisely here that the great mystery begins. When Jesus explains to Nicodemus (John 3) that "unless you are reborn of water and the Spirit, you cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven", he is, in somewhat symbolic language, referring to the same mystery. This consists of the "modus operandi" of the process which, if we don't want to refer specifically, we can use a mathematical analogy: what is the limit of a function of the type f(x) = a / x when x -> 0? It is infinite, of course, although taking finite values along the way.
Man, as opposed to God, does not have infinite but finite dimensions. But nothing prevents him from triggering a process that tends to infinity. And that magnitude already contains the justice and glory that will allow him to pay for the (finite) sin he committed in Eden. The complexity doesn't stop there, but I went as far as I thought was reasonable.

Why Jesus had to die (or more precisely suffer so much) has puzzled me for my entire Christian tenure.
However I do think I have been afforded some grasp of what the New Testament authors believe about his death (thanks to some of my college professors and professionals in the academic field).
Paul seems to have an idea that since Adam got us into this mess it took another "Adam" to get us out of it. One "prime" human brought sin into the world, another "prime" human dealt with that problem.
Regarding his death being a form of atonement for sin, like seen in the law of Moses, Paul speaks of how the law brought a curse. In the law Moses states that if Israel breaks it they will be cursed and indeed they were cursed with the Assyrians then exile into Babylon and finally by occupation by Rome. Their afforded freedom from slavery, self sovereignty, and beautiful life in a land of milk and honey was gone.
However Jesus, as a faithful Israelite, and more importantly, being the "King" of Israel, was able and allowed to represent Israel to God. (In the Old Testament, when the leaders did poorly, unfortunately, the people would sometimes suffer for it. The King represented his people). So Jesus, as King and the faithful Israelite, had authority to represent cursed and unfaithful Israel and take their sin and curse upon himself. As a representative of humanity (Adam) furthermore he was able to take the sin of the world on himself as well. The result being that now, in him, if we choose to be in him, we are declared justified with God. Sin and the resulting death from sin are atoned for.
I still don't understand why his death had to be so horrible and torturous. Even the lambs that were slaughtered were killed as quickly and painlessly as possible. My "headcanon" guess is that sin is that awful of a thing. But crucifixion isn't even God's idea, it was a Roman idea that was unknowingly used to further God's plan to redeem humanity.

Jesus went to cross to do his father's Will. We overlook the true triumph in the garden of Gethsemane. Without Gethsemane no crucifixion. He died to fulfill the scriptures. So those who go against the sola scripture are totally lost. He came to fulfill all the scriptures. The law and prophet's and psalms testified of me.

Here's a theory, Christ died in order to end the Old Testament with Abraham. The only way to end a covenant would be for one of the parties to die and indeed only after the crucifixion were the gentiles proselytized. Before, Jesus excplicitly said that he came to save the Jews, as if wanting to give them a final chance to save the covenant. But once he was crucified, the covenant no longer held, the Jews were no longer the chosen nation, it was permissable to proseletyze among the gentiles and within a single generation the second temple gets destroyed. Does this theory have a name or did I just make it up?

biblically, Jesus was the "last Adam" who only became a "corresponding ransom for all" by becoming the total equevilant of the perfect Adam before he sinned. His death fulfilled Goid's own principle of a 'life for a life' . Thus Christ "Poured out his very SOUL unto death". Yes God's Son came down from heravan, "emptied himself' and thus the "word BECAME flesh". Thus church doctrines & creeds aside; why did Jesus die on the cross? To provide he ransom sacrifice for the sins of the world! Amen!

God wanted a world with free choice, so just like us, He allowed Satan to choose.
God can redeem people, but angels can't be redeemed.
He could have made us like robots, but that wouldn't be moral.
God could've stopped Satan, but that goes against true freedom the choice to love or hate.
However the curiosity of your first point ..
      Let me explain.
In the ancient practice described in Leviticus 17:11, sacrifices were offered as a symbolic exchange for the purification of one's soul. The emphasis is on the life residing in the blood, signifying the gravity of atonement.
Instead of offering something of material value, individuals presented animals, symbolizing a substitute to bear the consequence of sin - death.
The acceptance of animals, rather than people, during that time reflects God's mercy.
By allowing a substitute to endure the consequences, God demonstrates compassion, sparing individuals from the death they deserved for breaking His commands.
Sin, defined as a violation of God's commands, carries the penalty of death.
In this context, Jesus steps in to settle the debt of sin. His act symbolizes taking the place of humanity in facing death's consequences, offering a path to redemption through the payment of that debt.
      Your welcome.

      @lucianseekinglove 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@GOD_COMFORTS A world in which there is no free will and no suffering seems a lot more moral than a world in which there is free will and suffering. I didn't ask for free will. I didn't ask to exist. I didn't ask to be created. I would gladly give up my free will in exchange for an existence devoid of suffering. I don't get to make that choice, therefore I don't have free will.
So, God allowed for creatures to suffering awful pain and death to orchestrate a symbolic ritual for thousands of years? That sounds really sadistic.
No one deserves any death because none of us consented to existing and to abiding by His rules. His rules were imposed upon us against our desire.
Why does sin, defined as a violation of God's commands, carry the penalty of death? Who made that rule and why? It seems evil. Why did God create a system in which the actions of one creature affects other creatures? That is a terrible system.

@@lucianseekinglove We must grasp that being created by God in a world that initially rebelled from His divinity doesn't eliminate our choice or audacity to return to the true source, despite the original plan for harmony.
So by agreeing that ‘ we don’t have free will on this earth ‘ you are also agreeing that you cant make free decisions,
which implies losing crucial aspects like rationality, creativity, and the ability to love freely.
This also means accepting no personal culpability in reality, even though we often use our evaluation abilities to justify less favorable choices …Correct ?
You see we Often, we misinterpret what free will entails.
It means following the dictates of our hearts, freely choosing to act on what our hearts tell us.
Before embracing Christ, “my heart led me to freely hate things of God”
The nature of sin, often described as misguided desire, prompts reflection on alignment with personal desires and beliefs. The concept of 'belief' can lead to adopting a distorted image of ‘ identity’
And that’s Satans favourite ‘ head start’ my brother.
You see the ‘ flesh ‘ in the bible refers to our nature.
      📖‭‭Romans‬ ‭7‬:‭14‬-‭17‬ ‭NLT‬‬
”So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin. I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate. But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.“
      Apostle Paul describes that
We continue to do what we hate , we sin even when we mean to do what was right.
It's not that we are still slaves to sin, but that we are divided by our own competing desires.
I hope I clarified what the ‘flesh nature’ means in depth 🙏🏽
So even as a Christian we still are aware of what the flesh leads to that’s why Christ instructs us to stay close to him
      (‘HIS WORD’ )
And I will explain in abit…
The Bible says that the heart is deceptive, so relying solely on your own thoughts may be unreliable.
But Instead, your heart should reflect something external, not just what it conceives internally.
That’s why you need to carefully understand why Christ came to earth in flesh.
Christ coming to Earth in flesh is seen not as changing a 'bad person into a good person,' but rather bringing light into the hearts of his people.
The focus is on transforming the spiritually dead into the living, offering life to those who genuinely accept him as Lord and Savior.
You see the moment you accept Christ as your lord and saviour your identity and life itself start to inform , the purpose of life starts to become more intelligible and blissful.
when Gods grace comes to you he changes your heart as I mentioned , and so you begin to love the very things you once hated and so now you freely choose for God even while Gods action predestined you into the kingdom.
The transformation of your life is the manifestation of him in you.
That even while you go through those hardship moments there’s this joy that doesn’t diminish.
But most importantly the promise of eternity in heaven which in comparison is nothing like earth.
God didn't place us on Earth as vessels for wrath, intending to cast us into hell.
He granted us free will, and it wasn't His desire for you to turn away from Him.🙄
Life on Earth remains inherently beautiful, and it carries a profound concept - the ripple effect.
The challenges you face can influence others, and the crucial question is, how will you choose to respond!!!!
Remember God is not a thought , his an experience, we can’t use our intellectual capacity to try fathom the infinite God in this finite piece of dust called the human.
This is all I can give you referring to unity with Christ and what’s truly pulling us back, I hope you read and meditate on what’s been said , God bless.

Jesus knew he was one of the Father’s gift of salvation to the people - to the world - NOT - as the Jews supposed and taught down the centuries - salvation from the punishment meted out by the wrath of God - BUT - to save us from the daily repetition of the same mistakes in wrong thinking - wrong thinking which created our misfortunes, poverty, sickness and misery.
But because Jesus Loved the human race so deeply, he was prepared to teach and heal in defiance of the Jewish Priests. Jesus was prepared to die on the cross for what he had truly "seen" in the desert, knew with all his heart, and wanted to share to the last drop of his ability to do so.
THIS IS THE TRUTH BEHIND JESUS' CRUCIFIXION AND ALL THE REST WE'VE HEARD IS MAN-MADE CONJECTURE ARISING OUT OF THE JEWISH PRACTICE OF BURNT OFFERINGS IN THE TEMPLE.
Jesus was a gift from the Father to humankind to help us surmount our ignorance of the Laws of Existence, and find the true Path of Life leading to the joy, abundance and perfect wholeness of the Kingdom of Heaven.
These were the perceptions, the desires, the intentions and goals and the thoughts which Jesus bore within his mind and heart. This was the earthly mental-emotional framework clothing Jesus' spiritual consciousness hidden within the head and figure of him.

It's true that Jesus came to change our mindset, but that isn't all that He did. Why does John the Baptist call Him "the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world?" The Bible tells us that the practise of offerings in the Jewish temple was given by God Himself to point to Jesus' sacrifice as payment for humanity's sins. The book of Hebrews in particular explains this brilliantly

It must be understood that down the centuries - people perceived that facets of human behavior were detrimental to the welfare of others. They witnessed killing - stealing another's wife and possessions - causing much pain and grief in the community - making life difficult and at times - intolerable. It was reasoned that surely this behavior must be contrary to the will of "God." They gave this behavior the name of "sin" and termed it "evil." Eventually - the Prophets reasoned that such aberrant behavior must emanate from an "evil" force opposed to "God" and they called it "Satan."
The Prophets threatened and punished each other in the belief that "sins" were evil and that "God" would punish men for their wrongdoing against each other. This behavior is practiced to this day in the churches. Ministers try to control people by fear.
THE CONCEPT OF "SIN" against God - the Eternal and infinitely Mighty Creator - was a clever and powerful method of controlling other people!
Church beliefs are a tragic travesty of all that Jesus tried to teach.
Moses first enshrined the belief in "sin" and "punishment" in the form of the Ten Commandments.
Moses said that they were given to him by "God" and that if the Israelites broke them - they would have to suffer the penalty - in some cases - this meant death by stoning. They were taught that by breaking the Laws - the Israelites would be sinning against "God."
The exact truth is - Moses went to the mountain to pray for a means by which to control the unruly Israelites. In answer to this prayer - the Ten Commandments were inspirationally given to him to help him in his task of bringing the Israelites safely through their desert sojourn with the least degree of trouble-making.
Christians are happy to accept and wholeheartedly believe that "God" reputedly instructed Moses to engage in aggressive procedures and massacres when conquering the "promised land." A beautiful and productive land was callously grabbed from hard working people who were slain in their thousands. This was regarded as the right thing to do since "God" had promised them a beautiful land in which to settle. To this day - Christians believe that since "God" spoke to Moses - it must be "God" who decreed the ensuing bloodshed. There are many similar horrific descriptions of war and bloodshed in the Bible considered permissible - just and right - because it was believed that "God" had instructed them to go to war - against Gentiles.
Can you not see in the history of the Jews - the rampant EGO-DRIVE in which even "God" is "used" to exempt them from blame? In the moment of self-aggrandizement - it became permissible and equitable to ignore the Ten Commandments and indulge in wholesale massacre.
They believed no sin was involved because the killing had been ordained by "God." What a "God!"
Can you not also perceive why it was necessary for Jesus to be born to live among the Jews in an effort to help them see that their traditional beliefs and practices were all contrary to the very Nature of GOD who had truly given them being?
Since then - down the centuries - men have battled with the concept of "sin" and many sincere people have grieved concerning the way they offend "God" and they beg for forgiveness. Long ago - they sacrificed animals beyond number in the Temple in Jerusalem - to appease "God" and to hopefully escape the effects of their sins. Since that time - innumerable books have been written on the subject - expressing grief and horror at the condition of men's souls - seeking ways to change their behavior - beating themselves with whips to torture the flesh and make it pay for its wrongdoing in thought - words and deed - and many of these books have been applauded by "Christians" and housed within the archives of religious institutions.
They bind people to Jesus' age-old persona - preaching the "salvation of man from punishment for his sins" by Jesus' death on the cross. These beliefs are physically impossible and contrary to the facts of creation. No payment is extracted for "sin" by any superior "Deity." This is a human concept entirely - and pagan. All blood-letting of any description for the purpose of religious rites is paganism. Christian churches have presented its followers with nothing less than a "glorified" version of paganism.
When people make other people unhappy in any way - they are creating their own future "comeback." Not as retribution - but as a "consciousness activity of creation."
Therefore - it is a matter of urgency that these beliefs in "sin" and "salvation by Jesus' death on the cross" should be strongly combated - and replaced - by UNCONDITIONAL LOVE and the TRUTH of EXISTENCE.

He didn’t have to die. If God had just destroyed Satan when he rebelled we wouldn’t be going through this bullshit.

God demanding animal or human sacrifice as payment for the sins of man is absurd.
It would be similar to me creating ants and then making requiring the ants to sacrifice a flea for the forgiveness of their sins lest I curse them.
Of course, the forgiveness from the sacrifice of a flea expires every 12 months, so they’d have to sacrifice another flea every year. “There has to be a more streamlined solution!”, I say to my god-self. “I have to come up with a sacrifice that doesn’t have an annual expiration date. Something with more permanency, with guts, with moxie!”’(Something with less fleas. They have enough of their own problems without having to deal with the ant’s problems too!)
Then it hits me! I’ll make MYSELF an ant so the other ants could kill me so I won’t kill all of the ants. Of course, I would kill most of the ants anyway because they wouldn’t acknowledge that I was the ant-maker and didn’t love me unconditionally… under condition of eternal torment. (The little piss-ants.)

The Roman Catholic Church taught me that Jesus Christ was a failure. It taught me that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the forgiveness of my sins. Then it taught me that I had to confess my sins to a priest to have my sins forgiven. Which means in plain English that Jesus was unable to forgive my sins but this man in a little closet can do it if I confess my sins to him. Sorry. I believe Jesus did it right the first time.
