Does anyone know what the pipe is exiting the sill behind the front wheel??? I'm guessing it's a breather pipe but I no of much higher compression engines and I've never seen one exiting such a strange place so low down! Check it blow as Colin spins at 5:56, it blows hard at high revs and although it took me a while to even notice! All group A gc8 imprezas have them!!!
They didn't run screamer pipes on these cars. The pipe is a oil breather. They ran the oil breather lines from the engine into a catch can then a pipe that routes down near the wheel arch venting to atmosphere. You can always tell when it's McRae driving - he only brakes for hairpins. The rest of the time he just stays in top gear and cuts the corners.

I think it is an external westgate breather. The smokw you see it's because of the hot air coming from the turbo and the cold air outside
