I grew up going to High School on the Westside of Chicago listening to groups and people like EWF, The Gap Band, Stevie Wonder and George Clinton. as I got older, moved in raised a family in central Ca. and as much as I listen and played my songs on my computer in the car, I guess our younger generation develop a taste for what was playing in their high School at their time.... I guess I can understand I know my mother generation revolved around groups like the Marvelettes, Temptations, Supremes..... But I remember talking to my daughter, and she did admit, she did miss the music I played while I was in my home office.
Having to ask “Who Sampled This?” Tells me that contemporary music is too often lacking originality and creativity. EWF didn’t sample other songs, they were just badass and came up with their own sound. In fact other musicians at this time in other genres came up with their own stuff also. Of course different artists did Covers but didn’t rely on others except as “influencing” sources to incorporate into their unique style.
