EVERY CHILD MATTERS: Orange Shirt Day recognizes harm of Canada's residential school system

September marked 'Orange Shirt Day - Every Child Matters' and Minnesota's Deer River Public Schools ISD #317 high school paid respects by participating with a march.
Native Report was present at the march and wanted to learn more about the history behind the day in order to share it with you all, so we spoke with residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad who serves as the Orange Shirt Society Executive Director.
Her story inspired Orange Shirt Day - Every Child Matters which falls on Sept. 30th annually in recognition of the harm of Canada's residential school system and is intended to open the door globally to discussion.

Former residential school student Phyllis (Jack) Webstad has shared her story of her first day at residential school when her new orange shirt, bought by her grandmother, was taken from her as a six-year old girl. This act left Phyllis feeling invisible and worthless and affected the way she lived for much of her life.Sep. 29, 2020

This entire situation confused me from the start. WHY DIDN'T THE PARENTS' QUESTION WHY THEIR CHILDREN DIDN'T COME BACK YEARS OR DECADES AND DECADES AGO?! IN THE 70'S 80'S 90'S 00'S..... HMMM 🤔
Why has there been no reports in the media since this all started... where are the remains???
