One of the all time greats. So many great players have modelled their cue action on Davis.
He played on for another 21 years as professional. A legend and a wonderful ambassador for the sport.
When he said, ‘I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of him’, they didn’t know how true those words would turn out to be. He is still astounding us till this day. Keep it up the class of 92.
@ ah yes the match fixing scandal do you mean? I forgot about that actually. Well said and thank you for reminding me.
@Wah-j5i Rubbish. You don't just do 6 months for M F.
Shame hes an admitted cheat though aye. Should have been banned for 3 years.
Davis is a legend of the game. A man who have won so many titles ( rating and non rating ) in his career. A player who really dominated the snooker in the 80s. 1995 Davis was 38 years old still in a good shape but then later he didn't win at least one rating title. The snooker changed and the level became higher and he just couldn't compete with new players. The same thing happened with Hendry who dominated the snooker in the 90s. Ronnie O'Sullivan is the only player who competed all the time during of 30 years with the best players. Ronnie made a real war in the finals. He is the greatest of all time
Davis won the masters mate beating o'sullivan years later than this. That alone is as good as the world title.
Last ranking yes but he won the masters with the world's top 16 at that time in 1997 beating Ronnie in the final also made several ranking finals right up till 2005 were he made his last uk final against an 18 year old ding
He fought a lot harder than Stephen did when he started to lose
Stephen beat Jimmy a few times then started losing everything in the 2000s
Hendry recently conceded the fact that he never adapted his game despite his powers diminishing. Davis did - he went more aggressive and he got some results from it whereas Hendry kept playing a suicidal game taking in the long pot and leaving them in the reds.
30 years ago, how... is... it... so... long... ago!!!
30 years before this the snooker world championship hardly existed, in a match between Rex Williams and John Pullman there were no spectators so they reportedly spun a coin to determine the winner (and probably headed to the pub)
What a player Steve Davis was, one of the greatest players ever and the king of the 80s.
Despite the occasional issue with autofocus, love the wide-aperture depth-of-field in this vid!
Absolute legend
With the new WST service around a month old now I don't see any updates added to the archive section. Wouldn't it be a better idea to upload more of this match there rather than an 8 minute video here? Also I'm sure there would be a lot of interest for paying customers to see 80s stuff but so far there is nothing!
We are in the process of sourcing more archive for WST Play 👍
JV was definitely right about John Higgins, he’s won 31 ranking titles in his professional career
Still the king. At 52 beating john Higgins to reach the qf. Higgins was number 1 then but davis turned back the years and showed everyone how great he was.
Notice how John Higgins has a totally different cue action at this point in his career.
He won masters in 97
Steve was a decent player.
Think he still won more titles over all than anyone
By heck Phil Mitchell looks young!
😂😂 I always see Phil Mitchell in John Higgins when I’m watching snooker, but not quite his doppelgänger
cueball on a piece of string - what longevity....
goat
Ronnie
Hendry
Davis.
Simple as that.
@Wah-m9v After Ronnie O'Sullivan 🐐Mark Selby. John Higgins, Mark Williams then Stephen Hendry
That's the correct GOAT list.
@Wah-m9v The greatest player of all time Ronnie O'Sullivan beat Judd Trump in a world final at the age of forty seven ♥🐐
@Wah-m9v Ronnie O'Sullivan is the GOAT. Even Hendry agrees long ago. Ronnie O'Sullivan is the greatest 🐐
@@Glasschin-o8u Not its not
Ronnie
Selby
John
Williams
Reardon
Davis
Hendry
That's my top 7 players
have a look at the masters 1997 see who won that
Ronnie O'Sullivan is the GOAT. Even Hendry agrees long ago. Ronnie O'Sullivan is the greatest 🐐
Without doubt O'Sullivan is the greatest player to ever pick up a cue but Davis is one of the games all time greats.
£32000 for the winner back then i suppose was a lot of money
The welsh still dress like this audience…
What an awful trophy.
I’m surprised one of these are not knighted hendry David Ronni they have been such great servants of the game
Knighthoods go to political hacks, lawyers, judges, senior bureaucrats and other such shysters, with the odd rock star thrown in. To award a knighthood for actual ability and success in sport is one or two bridges too far.
