While these rules work for quicker games, this is not the official rules. Kubbs never leave the play field, they get thrown back. Also there is no stacking kubb.
Edit: I watched the rest. It’s like a bocce/bowling/every lawn game EVER hybrid. This is INSANE! I just bought a set based on simply WATCHING people play. I jumped here to learn how to play. Nice job!
My step son just got this game for Christmas. Thank you for the quick overview. Looking forward to laying siege on enemies without having to harvest human skulls in advance.
Legend has it was played using bones.. and is older than viking.. The name Kubb however is derived from swedish (same in Norwegian) Kubbe.. meaning short log, usually refering to cut firewood..
But more plausible is that the game was invented by some people chopping wood on their farm throwing logs about for fun! Later on, when people from other countries started to get interested in it, the story about the vikings and bones was invented. Its like with another swedish word called Lagom (meaning "in moderation"). It is said to been derieved from an egalitarian system of sharing mead at a wikings feast. Lag can be a word for Team or Group and Om meaning Around/round, as in "sharing round the table" (with the group). The story about that word is probably a myth aswell thou. Its more likely to have been derieved from the court room, meaning something like "stated by law". The word Lag can also mean "Law" and "Om" here meaning "about or Of". This last bit has nothing to do with Kubb thou, im sorry.
The swedish word Kubb translates to Firewood, because it came from chopping firewood to light a fire. Maybe Chopwood would be a better name for english speaking players.
Hnegatfl is actually what's referred to as "Viking Chess" as it's a board game resembling what we know today as chess. This appears to be somewhere between "horseshoes" and bocce ball. Fantastic video though! I've done the research on the history and will be making a set to take with me to reenactment events. ❤
This highlighted some rules we had done differently, we’d been returning the knocked down pawns/Kubbs to the back line, game took forever. Also a double consonant is done to force a short sounding vowel. Such as Tidy, and Tiddy. As such it’s always been Kubb (“Kub or Cub”) to us. ‘Koob’ made it very frustrating to watch :-). But thanks still.
This is a great addition to the game. We did not play this way for a long time but I heard about this rule and I think it makes the last shot much more interesting. I believe they call that the sureshot. I may make an updated video with some of these additions. Thanks so much for the comment. Good stuff.
Blimey, I saw some playing this in my lacal Park so I said do you just make it up or.. so I looked it up. Stll no idea, I know how to play chess but the rules of this game?? Anyhow thanks ;)

Pretty sure there is no overhand throws either .
And some start with a 2 then 4 then 6 throws for the first rounds

You should try the lawn game ‘Mölkky’. My whole family loves it.

Wow he just looked up the google definition....lol
I heard about it on a tv-programme about language. But the wiking-story is way more "fun" thou :D
The Egyptians played a similar game, and Kubbe's origin is unknown, but believed to be from the Iron Age. However, a real Viking game is Hnefatafl.
Hey, Travis. Great video. I like how interactive you are with the audience. Well done.

You definitely do not remove the field kubbs from the game. They get tossed back from the base line.
I've heard of this variation to make it easier for newer players, otherwise the game can go on too long.
@@ADadsLife921 It actually makes it harder though, because then you can get blown out really quickly with no way to catch up.
@@aloric711 I can definitely see that turning into a snowball mechanic. 🤔 gonna ponder a bit for some sort of middle ground.
Looks so fun!

Hi Dad! Skip nn' Hole would love to be featured in one of your next videos!
You forgot the Swedish rule of having to knocking over the king by throwing from an inverted stance through/in between the legs.

AWESOME! thanks for the great video!!
Cool.
that wasn't in our instructions but I'd seen others doing it.
Make the ending last a while longer
Ahh, the good ol days playing with someone's skull. You just don't see that anymore....
😂😂😂
So if a field kubb is knocked down it is removed from the field entirely? I thought they always just keep going back and forth
you can play either way
Who are you and where did you come from or rather when did you come from?

which diameter for the BATTON?
Rolo Tomassi 3/4 inch os the oficial
Thanks for assist! I will add full dimensions onto the description!
1 and 3/4 inch
These responses that say inches are incorrect. The official size should be in metric.
Legend
and lenght of the CUBES and lenght of KING please!!!
Hey buddy I totally missed this but I am responding now. I'm sure you already know the answer but I'll give you the official dimensions as well as the dimensions I used. Stay tuned because I am going to post a full instructional on. How I make my kubb sets. Have a great day and God bless.
Official Dimensions
10 Kubbs 7x7x15 cm
6 Batons 30 cm x 4.4 cm diameter
1 King 9x9x30 cm
My Dimensions (unofficial)
10 Kubbs 2¾ x 2¾ x 6 inches
6 Batons 12 inches x 1¾ in
1 King 3½ x 3½ x 12 inches
Lotta comments on the incorrect rules. Also, Kubb is like a viking version of Cornhole. What's more often called Viking chess is hnefatafl.
What's incorrect
Hi
Also "VIking Chess" would be Hnefltafl

Hi there! Looks like a fun game! I would be happy to talk about this with you if you would email me at daddoneright@gmail.com. looking forward to talking with you.
the femur shit is just propaganda, Kubb came around because it was an easy game to play when you had a stack of wood lying around.
You’re NOT allowed to stack the field-Kubbs on top of each other.
there are many different local rules. People put their own spin on things :)
Русские есть ?😂
Its not Kuuuuub. Its Kub.
It’s pronounced CUB
No, no it’s not
Bla bla bla os
Dude way less of your face and more game footage pls lmao
