This is the best Goldilocks Red camera. Not only is it the best camera Red has ever made, it seems like they don't even realize it. Their Monstro camera package is about 70k+ (17 stops of dynamic range) a decent Gemini package is about 30k (16.5 stops of DR AND Low light mode) it's a no brainer
First of all, they aren't 16-17 stop cameras, they are 14-15 stops, and while I agree that they are great tools, they are heavy, eat batteries and are a bit overpriced imo.
Hello! Please, I'd like to know the 1.33X ANAMORPHIC resolution for the RED GEMINI 5K. I know that the default resolution for the RED GEMINI is 5120x300. But, I'm also aware that the resolution for all red cinema cameras always increase when you shoot anamorphic. (1) Please, what is the 1.33x anamorphic resolution for the red Gemini 5k? (2) Does the camera use ALL THE FULL HEIGHT AND WIDTH of the sensor during a 1.33x anamorphic mode??? Thanks for your time.

The Panasonic VariCam LT costs $10.000 and comes with a mound, audio peripherals, a Batterie plate and build in NDs. And it’s native ISOs are 800 and 5.000. It only shoots ProRes but most DPs aren’t able to tell me why they should be shooting raw anyways, except for exposure recovery which to be honest you can just learn to expose properly.
Red cameras are very reliable, they are designed to work on movie sets where it is key that they don't fail and they are certainly catching up to Arri as far as how much they are being used on sets. The DSMC2 Brain is said to have a near silent fan as well. Thanks! -Joey P
Is there a particular set of cine lenses that fit the Red Gemini? What do you think about the use of foto lenses such as the Canon 85 1.4 with stabiliser or the Canon 16-35 with stabiliser?
@@BandH Thank you Joey. The reaseon I ask - I have the RED Gemini and the Canon C 300 MK II (both EF) for image- and doc-films. The Canon is sharper. @@kylehalim5957 thanks! right? like i just saw the new DRAGON X video and damn... that sensor has all the cinematic magic, but as much i wanna love Gemini, it looks too.... video like to me.... please anyone share a nice link to proof me wrong! please!
Yea, but honestly, I don't think RED's place in the industry is to provide a distinctly filmic look like Arri for example. A big reason Arri Alexa feels filmic right out of the box is its lower resolution and *extremely* smooth highlight rolloff. Now RED can stand to improve on the latter for a smoother softer image, but the video look is, in effect, the result of a high resolution digital image. If you look at the Arri Alexa LF/65, they both look much more video-like than the Alexa/Amira line, even though it's just a stack of the same sensor. Meaning the most significant change there is the resolution. Similarly, RED's One MX, Scarlet, and other older bodies look more 'filmic' than their newer 5k-8k with cleaner low light performance. Blackmagic; same thing. People don't find the new pocket cinema camera to be as 'filmic' as the old one, despite it being by all standards a much better camera. Sony F35 vs Sony F55/65, same arguments. Basically filmic in most people's terms = nostalgic image quality. That's not to say you can't make the footage look filmic, but it'll take more effort than just pulling the footage out of camera and throwing a LUT on it.
For what I know after a interns research, RED IPP2 has improved a lot highlights rolloff, noise and others elements, getting their image closer tp Arri, etc etc etc... but for some reason that is not what I meant, I can't really say what it is, had a couple of discussions about it with DOPs, maybe is the absence of noise, which provides a level of clarity that I'm not used to, but even in daylight footage, it looks too wiped up for me, something like the first time I saw HD footage beside 35mm celluloid film, not sure if I'm explaining myself properly, is what I feel, maybe I'm wrong. Thanks for your answers guys.
Basically, RED cameras are for Big Production companies and not for independent film makers. I'm shooting a feature film with my GH5. If you go over to CRFTSHO youtube channel, you can see GH5 footage matched to RED footage. So, do you really need to spend $20,000?
It looks like it matches cause of youtube compression but, people use the RED for all the leg room you get when editing & cause it does look good on your resume when you have experience with cinema cameras, though for youtube something like a GH5 is a great camera
Yeah I never understand that. People demoing 8k cameras and rendering out to 1080, TH-cam compression is bad enough you don't need to divide the resolution by 16.
Best camera of 2018? Lol, what about the Alexa LF? Regardless, in 2019 there's just so many great cameras from different companies for different jobs. It's pretty amazing.
IDK, I didn't really see anything special in this review. It looks good, dont get me wrong, but I have an FS5/Atomos Shogun Inferno and couldn't justify spending a staggering 25000 more dollars for this setup and proprietary RED peripherals.
This footage doesn’t look any better than Sony A7iii or the new mirrorless Panasonic. 20k for a computer essentially. And then you need 10k in proprietary parts that don’t work with anything else. Red is gonna drop dead when Sony releases the A7siii if even half the rumors about the 8k sensor are true. Clients literally can’t tell the difference between 720 and 4K, let alone 5k. Get fucking real. Prosumer till I die.

Three questions. How is the reliability? How does it compare with the Arri? How is the fan noise when shooting?
