The circuit board warping is common to these sets. Found a few places to fix, then shoved a dense piece of foam under the middle to keep it from sagging upon reassembly. I've now owned three of them, just to keep the original one gifted-to-me "alive." Aside from the warping, the solid-state boards that plug in to the main board went into small plastic forms which would separate at one end and keep the vertically-positioned boards from making contact. I keep one on display with a ROKU/modulator. fun to watch old shows on it! You should ENJOY this little gem!

Yesterday, Friday April 26th 2024, slow Joe was on Stern's radio show (I cannot believe people still listen to him) and he said he'd debate Trump, but the guy is useless even with a teleprompter.... Anyway when Trump finished up court around 4:30pm he addressed the Press and told Joe he'd debate him tonight if he wanted too and also said he was free after 5pm Monday-Friday in NYC and would even go to the White House to do it. IF there is a debate the ratings are going to be through the roof just out of curiosity mostly and to see how long Joe will be able to last as well as what kind of lies he's going to spew as the guy 100% cannot go off script without a massive train wreck to follow. That being said if a debate happens I'll be turning off my cellphone, taking the landline off the hook, and whipping up some killer junk food and having a few beers because Trump will mop the floor with that demented old cadaver! That old TV set held up a lot better for the past 54 years than me, or those Crepe Erase ladies for that matter. That was likely one of the first models that used that newfangled post-1969 RCA block lettering logo. This set is a lot safer to work on than the color models. 12voltvids told me one time the black-and-white sets that were intended for the lower mains voltages put out a lot of ionizing X-radiation when exposed to today's higher household voltages, but I think that's bunk.

We did have 4 years of cheap everything until we were all locked up and then the Cadaver was installed January 2021 and we all know what's been going on since then. I really hope DJT wins November 5th 2024 and gets everything back on track before they tank our currency in order to usher in a new global one and than we all get to start from scratch.

3:57 - I'll bet I know why the speaker was bypassed. That mini TV probably had a speaker no bigger than a small transistor radio, and the owner wanted a "bigger sound," so he(?) ran the speaker wires probably to a stereo component speaker. When I was a teen in the 70's, I got a "surround-type" experience in my parent's living room by running a set of wires from my Pioneer H-2000 stereo speakers to a console radio/phono on the other side of the living room. I jammed the wires into the RCA jacks behind the speakers, and jammed the wires into the console speaker wire connectors. Sounded great!

When I owned a shop, I installed a 1/4" socket in the audio circuit which when plugged into, would shut the built-in speaker off so older folks could have the remote speaker next to them and not blow the stock speaker, or bother neighbors. In this example, the guy couldn't be bothered to find the right connectors and also was a hack solder-er, for certain ;-)

I would have guessed, judging by the speaker grille design, that this was from 1976. Having lived through America’s Bicentennial, I can tell you that just about EVERYTHING back then had Liberty Bells, eagles, Statue of Liberty figurines, flags and fife & drum / revolutionary soldier designs on it or was painted with red, white and blue stripes. Cars, vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers, telephones, transistor radios, kitchen appliances, you name it.

Papa Shango is truly the master of vintage television resurrection when he starts in with his television diagnostic powers that TV will come back to life like Lazarus from the dead.
I myself have several vintage CRT televisions, two of them still live but the picture on one needs adjustment
CRT based televisions are basically electron accelerators. They boil off electrons from a filament and accelerate them using high voltage.
When the electrons hit the color grates inside the picture surface of the tube they come to an abrupt stop.
When any charged particle comes to an abrupt stop it emits electromagnetic radiation.
The higher the speed of the particle and the faster it stops the higher the frequency of emitted radiation.
Some Old CRT televisions may impart enough energy to the electrons so that when they stop the electrons emit X-rays, hence the stickers regarding x-ray.
In fact old X-ray machines created x-rays by accelerating electrons and have them stop abruptly by striking a metal block.

That is really cool Shango! I never knew they made TV’s like that! If there were no visible knobs you could never tell its size.

Reminds me of a Baldwin HT2 organ with the wood and patterned grill. Awesome pic!

Great Saturday Morning with Shango Get your savings at ROSS and use Plexaderm and look centuries younger. Wonder if the RCA would look like new. Love my Saturday mornings with Shango. Thanks for making these videos about the only good thing on tv these days. Take care Mike

Very cool, love the little set; in 1971 I returned from Vietnam , in 72 we moved to El Paso Texas and Fort Bliss, I bought my first color set down there at the Globe Shopping City store just off base, it was about that size but some off brand Hong Kong set. it lasted for years and I eventually gave it to my sister who needed a set after i purchased a new one at the Gambles store in our home town some years later.

I had to look back on what Declatté meant as you ranted about it on a previous video. And yes, you're right, a french word that means "neck".

      "decollete"
refers to your neckline area from the base of your throat (below your chin) to the top of your chest and the cleavage between your breasts.

I was doing some digging on Reddit and found a post from 4 years ago, a guy picked up one of these exact sets and some of the comments on that redditor's post said it originally sold for $125 brand new. But this is a really nice looking set. I like the miniaturized version of a big floor console TV. Looks really cute.

I love the styling and the novelty behind it, hate the typical craptastic RCA innards. You sure won't find any sagging circuit boards on a Zenith

1970 was the first year that RCA had their new logo on all sets. The 1969 CTC-38 came both ways, with the "Nipper" and the new one.

This may make a cool collector's piece, but this would look goofy on a nightstand or on top of the dresser in your bedroom, which is really the only place you wanted such a small B&W TV.

4:30 wow that circuit board is curved! And I don't even know why. Unlike the inverter I bought where the circuit board wasn't correctly fit it into the track maybe it popped out during shipping. I can explain that one in the TV wow.
