Another Fantastic film Bill, with some great filming locations ❤
Nice looking loco! As a Canadian, who runs Canadian Pacific on my own layout, chuffed about the name. Great service and overhaul as usual!🇨🇦
It just shows how several small things can mess up the running of a loco. I admire how you calmly overcame the difficulty posed by the hard wiring.
This loco would look great with CR decals, too !!! As Your blue B12 does!
Hi bill another loco rescued , it’s a gorgeous looking train in that blue and your layout is looking great
Lovely work as usual Bill! I've got to thank you, I recently bought my first ever OO locomotive (a secondhand Oxford Rail Adams Radial ) and your videos helped me get it running like it looks, basically new. Cheers from Louisiana. -Jack
I have this model - since buying it I found out that this was a preservation era livery and not carried by the rebuilt locos in BR service. It does look great though so I decided to keep it.
Hi Bill. I do like those loco’s, the blue looks especially nice on these
Stunning loco and great work Bill.
Gee, that loco really does look good in blue.
Nice job as always getting it back in top shape. Cheers!
I have to admit that I have never come across the brass gear plus a plastic gear together like that in the 50 some years I have been doing these repairs so very interesting. Great servicing, repairing, and adjusting video. Jersey Bill
Well done Bill 👍👍
Great views around your layout done a brilliant job
I'm not a Southern / Southern Region fan. But if I were a rebuilt Bullied Pacific in Express Blue would be top of my shopping list.
As always another great video from you bill a great job and a pleasure to watch thank you for sharing
Nice work Bill. I’m surprised by the placement of the DCC chip in the tender as there’s plenty of room in the smokebox, I have one like this. As it is it looks more like a trip back to Zero 1 days. BTW the motor mount, I’ve just found one on a Hornby Duchess that wasn’t threaded with a bolt forced into it from below and not holding it correctly. I threaded it with a 2mm tap and sorted it out but you wouldn’t expect to find such a basic flaw in any model.
I think your layout would be impoved if you painted the visible edges black rather than brown. It would be further improved with a plywood facia giving a homogenous appearance. Keep up the good work!
It will eventually be faced with ply and painted. The brown paint is just a quick temporary mask of the white polystyrene.
I do like this livery and am surprised Hornby haven't released another version of this model in it since pre DCC days. I think they're missing a trick.
N.B. Are any of Rapido's Scottish locos such as the Jones Goods or Caledonian single wheeler on your wish-list ? Or their evolution coaches in Caledonian or Highland railway liveries?
Subject to budget considerations of course. Lots of lovely new models coming out at the moment, but they do put a large hole in your wallet😬 and it's a case of pick & choose which I like best for me. Can't afford them all unfortunately.😢
I would love to get the Caledonian Single wheeler. But the cost is just a bit too much of an obstacle.
Another great video and problems sorted a nice looking loco in blue
Very good video
You found on this one that the B2B measurements were a bit narrow. Is there a way to “spread” driving wheels a little in these cases or are they best left alone , given all the motion and rods?
If the measurement is between 13.9 and 14.2 I tend to leave it alone until a test run. To widen the spacing I lever out gently with a flat blade screwdriver to the inside of the wheel close to the axle. To reduce it I squeeze together with my fingers or sometimes place the wheels in a vice.
@ thanks!
Another great job Bill how old is the loco with the brass gear.
I suspect the brass gear has been added later, probably a replacement for a split gear.
These models have a Hornby catalogue number of R2171 and were released in the early 2000s a couple of years before Hornby introduced DCC which was around 2004.
With a couple of exceptions Hornby models with a catalogue number of R2400 and upwards are DCC there are also a few models in the R2300s such as A4s and Q1s which are DCC.
Hi Bill
Great video one favourite steam engines
That one very interesting as have few of them
great vlog nice work keep up the great vlog
I've been looking for one of these locos for about twenty years...............a question, Sir. Is there any way of adjusting the left-side valve gear so that it in the correct position for forward travel? Right now it's set for reverse.
15.9 B-B seems too wide. Should it not be 14mm for Code 100 OO ?
I said 13.9 not 15.9
@ sorry it must have been my inability to listen to a Scottish accent. 😊
Does anyone know where those brass gears are sold?
I think they were what Hornby originally replaced split gears with under warranty years ago. Not available now to my knowledge
