Skomer is wonderful too! Haven't been for a few years. Espen, this also reminded me of Handa Island up in the very North West of Scotland. Do you know it? Your video filled me with a wish to go there. Thanks for spreading the lurve!!!
Hi Espen wow indeed what a place even a numpty like me could get a image or two. My favourite image has to be the puffin you know I've never really took notice of how sad their eyes make them look. This video was absolutely awesome to watch definitely one of my favourites, until next time take care and stay safe my friend.
Very impressive footage and a very great landscape!!! Not to forgett the stills, they are wonderfull! Thanks for sharing this great video, I enjoyed it very much!!! Best regards, Rolf
Great film Espen, looks like a fantastic location. Must be tempting to get a liitle bit closer to the edge though!!! Bet its nice having so many subjects to go at. I know the vast majority of my work is sat waiting, fingers crossed for hours on end just to fire a couple of frames off!!👍📷🎥
Absolutely breathtaking! I am in awe. Those are some incredible birds! So cool you found a puffin! I love the music you put in it, it just makes me appreciate those little birds.
Espen, I usually only give short, rather glib comments on your vids, as I'm typically just about to nod off in a dark room. So, I'd just like to add just how much I enjoy your videos. I think I may have said before that landscape and architecture photography are more my bag, although I sometimes post up the odd bird shot. However, I love watching your videos. I think you have a very accessible style of presenting and the quality of photographs is great and getting better. I was interested in following your switch to m4/3, which you seem to be really happy with. I use your old set up. It works well but the 7Dii sensor is getting on now and the low light performance is not great. No need to respond to any of this, I'm just waffling. I just wanted to say, well done with all of it and hope it continues growing. Best wishes, Julian.
Thank you very much for that Julian, much appreciated 🙂 I’m really happy using the 4/3 system, but I don’t think you’d be happy with the ISO performance. It’s one of the drawbacks of the system, when I was comparing the em1x to the 7dii earlier in the year I found them to be very similar and the em1ii I have now is worse. However, I can live with it as it really complements how I like to shoot and I like to experiment with slow shutter speeds.
I was hoping that the R6 might fit the bill but at 20 MP, cropping in on small birds might be problematic. I'll wait and see how that pans out. Of course, many professional wildlife shooters use the 1Dx and get on fine with that and the R6 shares the sensor with the 1DxMkiii, so should be very good. It's quite possible that Canon might bring out an RF replacement for the 7DMkii, with all the animal tracking and fast frame rate of the R5 & 6. I might keep my fingers crossed for that. But,.....do I need a new camera? NO! :-) Best, J
Good video enjoyed it and seeing that fabulous location too. The Olympus looks like it is working out great. Resigned to being stuck in the house til the end of the year over here so I'm enjoying seeing some outdoors from your neck of the woods.
Excellent video Espen. Wonderful sights and sounds. You got some lovely portraits of the various species. I'm glad that you mentioned the smell as that, in my opinion, is part of the experience at a seabird colony. I've been to a number of colonies both here in Canada and in England and it is always a wonderful thing to witness . Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Stephen, the smell can be extreme! Did a boat trip around Bass Rock once, the smell and waves made for an interesting trip, luckily had photography to distract myself :)
Good morning....that is spectacular. Such a great variety and great opportunities. Looks like you had a fantastic day. Have a great week-stay well and stay safe.
Always enjoy your adventures and never fail to pick up some new tips and ideas. I'm in a completely different locale but so much can be applied. Simple, thoughtful, and serene videos...thank you!
Amazing colony thought I had a good morning with the Common Tern, certainly puts my trip to Weymouth in the shade. But still what the hell still a great day at the Seaside! Tremendous!👍😀
Fowlsheugh is already on my list, thanks so much for sharing what you found there. I went to Auchmithie yesterday, I didn't see any of the puffins (didn't know quite where to look for the small population of them and I couldn't walk too far as I have a sore knee) but I did see Fulmars and, briefly, dolphins though! 😁
Love your videos. I think this is one of the most relaxing stuff on youtube(well maybe a million seabirds aren't the most relaxing thing to listen to 😁) My current photography setup is a Samsung Galaxy S7 hooked up to Nikon 10×42 binoculars with some lego technic peaces, hair bobbles and some creativity😂😂Saving up for a quality lens and body combo and your videos are a big inspiration to why I'm doing so. Love from Finland

Beautiful episode, Espen :) Looks like a great place to take photos of seabirds, and what a wonderful scenery! Great pictures, and thanks for sharing them with us :) Been to Runde in Norway three times this summer to take pictures of the Puffin, and while i was there i saw some Razorbill's aswell, but we were not allowed to walk down the steep mountain cliffs were their nest was due to local restrictions.
Un lugar increíble para fotografiar Alcas, Araos y Gaviota tridáctila, también los Frailecillos, pero extremando las precauciones por el tipo de terreno, un descuido o exceso de confianza y la caída será terrible. Un saludo desde España Espen.
Definitely quite a morning, you got some really nice shots of some of some of my favourite birds. I spent a great afternoon on the isle of Noss in Shetland about this time year, lots of similar birds ,(also lots of Great Skuas). Good to see you have a strong stomach. The strong aroma of these colonies can put you off your sandwiches 😉
@@EspenHelland I'm sure you'll get there. I was wondering if you are familiar with the the Ythan estuary and Sands of Forvie which is probably not too far out of your home zone. Like the cliffs elsewhere the sand dunes at the entry to the sea here can leave you pretty impressed with the shear number of birds . I was last there about this time last year and the noise of hundreds (?thousands) of eiders and Common terns demands notice. It could get a little busy (people ) in the afternoon but was pretty quiet early. Its also has a seal colony . Just in case you were looking for an early morning walk 😊😊
@@johnmunro5983 Yes, heard of it. May have stopped by years ago, but not for photography. Would really like to go photograph the seals one day! Thanks for the tip :)
Looks great. I would have gone up to Bempton cliffs but due to lockdown not this year. Nice work. Ps what’s happened to you tragopan backpack not seen you use lately? I can’t find one to buy.
Still have it, but the Ajna f-stop has suited me better when I'm hiking and have a bit less gear. Unfortunately Tragopan will stop selling the bag as there are so many camera bags on the market.
Nice one Espen, when travel will be better next year and if you really want to have amazing experience with them birds come to Ireland and go see the Saltee Island if you over lemme know. if you like see my IG just posted few I was there few weeks ago: instagram.com/sebs.pixels/ Love your content your an amazing photographer have a good day.

Awesome video Espen. 4.21am absolute pro:) Respect for not disturbing the Puffin to 'get the shot'
Got to do what it takes ☕️ 😅 Thanks!
Loved this Espen!! Makes me miss Skomer!

Thanks Dani! I almost made it to Skomer a few years ago, but unfortunately the sea was too rough!
Yes, been there once - really want to go back, such an amazing island!

Espen, were you able to record video of gillemots with their not common shaped eggs? That shape prevents them from falling off of the ledges.
Good knowledge 👍 I was a bit late for that, think they'd all hatched
The audio on this video was superb, I felt like I was almost there with you (for the complete experience, we'd need 'smellovision', of course...)
Thanks Mark! Smellovision might have put a lot of people off 😅
Great Video
Thanks Rudy!
Haha, did the same in Ireland, Saltees island yesterday :DDD
Nice one!
I would love to see one of those vast colonies of seabirds! We have a few in Hawaii, but access to viewpoints is prohibited.
It's an amazing sight - and smell 🤢
So so nice to watch, were you metering for the highlights?
Thanks Anette! Yes, I use highlight alerts that I can see through the viewfinder.
I usually check mine after the shot, i think I will have to change my settings. Thanks Espen.
Amazing+++
Thank you :)
Wow that place is amazing and the pictures are even better!
I hope you didn't get plopped on because I got the jackpot in a nesting colony.
Thank you :) Got away safely this time!
I wonder if the birds are there before the grass starts to mature?
