I have a friend, a police officer, who was gunned down in the line of duty over 20 years ago. He was well known in the community for his love of Christmas. Every year he would have his house on the Christmas-must-see list and it was covered in spectacular lights. In his coffin, a large Christmas bulb was place in the palm of his hand so he could light up the heavens.

We buried my Mother with her cat. Before anyone screams about this, keep in mind this cat had actually passed away about 2 yrs before she did,and had been cremated. That cat had always slept with her,sat in her lap or beside her,or sometimes on the coffee table when mom sat on the couch. So when she passed away,I put the small urn the cat was in on my mothers lap.

My mother was certainly not a celebrity, but she received a teddy bear shortly before she died, and she kept that bear with her all the time. She held it like it was a baby. Just before her casket was closed for the last time, the funeral director slipped that bear into her arms, so she was buried with it.

Sinatra wasn't buried with just ANY bottle of Jack. He was buried with a bottle of the first batch of Jack Daniel's Sinatra Select. Kinda pricey but worth every penny. And yes, I have it. Also my brother, 11 years my Sr, passed when I was 6. He had bought me a pair of ceramic bunnies one sleeping, the other awake. I put the sleeping one in his casket. 44 years later I still have the awake one.

It was reported that when Humphrey Bogart died, his widow Lauren Bacall had a whistle buried with his ashes at Forest Lawn Glendale, as she had once told him whenever he needed her "all he had to do was whistle!" Also, when celebrity mother and daughter Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds died a day apart, they were interred together at Forest Lawn in the Hollywood Hills. Carrie had expressed a desire to be cremated, but her mother had planned a traditional burial for herself. Honoring their wishes, son/brother Todd Fisher had his sister's ashes placed in his mother's casket to be buried with her.

Tiny Tim was buried with his ukulele, Tony Curtis was buried with his iPhone, JFK was buried with an inscribed whale tooth...... When I was a Funeral Director, we buried MANY odd items. Plenty of golf clubs, bottles of booze, cigarettes, letters & notes, cremated remains of loved ones or pets, changes of clothing, candy bars, expensive jewelry, lit 'flashy-blinky' novelties (how long do the batteries last?), cash, weed, golf balls, playing cards, crossword puzzle books, stuffed animals, irreplaceable photographs, bowling balls, baseballs, footballs, sports jerseys, baseball cards, Bibles, toys, coloring books, cameras, musical instruments, holy statues, items blessed by the Pope, soft drinks, beers, and once, a complete stereo system, including two big speakers and a sub woofer (they were laid ON TOP of the body!). Some caskets we buried were true time capsules. I wonder how long until those burials are "fair game" to archeologists?

I read about Bela Lugosi being buried in his Dracula costume. The costume he was buried in is a replica to the one he wore in the 1931 classic Dracula. The original was given to his son. My late husband wasn’t famous but when he passed I knew he needed everything buried with him that he would need in the afterlife. I was thinking like a Pharaoh would have. Placed in his casket was a half a bottle of Jack Daniels, a deck of Rook cards, a Louis L’Amour paperback, the first season of Mash on dvd, Starbucks coffee, dark chocolate, a cane arrow he had made, unscratched lottery tickets, an orange, Gourmet jellybeans(that the grandkids opened lying in state) letters from family and friends, pictures of loved ones, his favorite pocket knife, a 3 ringer civil war bullet he had dug, the archery magazine he was reading when he collapsed. Daddy always put his hat on even to walk someone to their car after their visiting. We placed it near his head. His hands were on top of the gloves that he wore everywhere year round. The toilet paper was a joke he thought was hysterical. He passed in May 2014 just 4 days before his 95th birthday. He and my Mom were married for 73 years!

My sweetheart passed away on June 19, 2020. He had a wonderful Pomeranian named Rowdy. When Rowdy got sick and passed away, I trimmed some of his hair and put it in a baggie. Gene loved Rowdy so much, it really hurt him, when Rowdy died. Anyway when Gene was laid to rest, I put the baggie with Rowdy’s hair in his hand. He had a good grip as if he was holding it. We also had two Pomeranians /Pekingese mix, he loved them very much, so I also put pictures of them in with him. I still have the two dogs. I loved them all and hope they can feel each other’s presence. Rest In Peace Gene and Rowdy. You are truly loved and missed. ❤️🌹❤️

There is an old joke about the immigrant who arrived in the USA penniless, built a successful business, and sent his three sons through college, two becoming rich doctors, and the third a rich lawyer. On his deathbed, he declared "I am not afraid of death, but I fear having to be broke again. So sons, please, each of you put $5000 in my casket before it is closed., so that wherever I go, I will have something to spend."
After the funeral son#1 says "I left Dad fifty $100 bills." Son #2 says "I did the same". They turn to son #3 who says: "I removed the cash and left Dad my American Express Card. It has no spending limit, and is accepted everywhere." And he returns his two brothers their cash.

My Dad and my uncle were identical twins. They grew up poor, had to work very hard, even as kids and were pretty rough. In the 50’s and 60’s they were pretty big time moonshiners on the East Coast. They last batch they made was in 1969. I have some of it. When Daddy died, I put a small amount in a test tube and my uncle placed it in Daddy’s jacket pocket before his casket was closed.

Well these days it is not uncommon to be buried with mementos. In my Chinese culture we do do this kind of ritual to ensure they have a great afterlife. My favourite memories is when it was my first time crocheting a beanies/hats which I sent to my late grandmother (queen of crochet) she loved it so much she asked my mum she wanted to be cremated with the hats I made.it touched me so much.

Now days people can have their loved , lost pets cremated. Makes sense to me as I love my best friend cat that is my constant companion. When we go, would surely love to have him with me after we pass. That and a cell phone! I'm a heavy equipment operator and farmer. Know of a old time Farmer in southern Indiana that has his beloved steam tractor as his tombstone over his grave at the cemetary. Apparently someone has kept it in a decent state of preservation as it still looks nice after some 70 yrs.

My father was buried in his work clothes. He was in the same job for 40 years from the age of 15. He retired at the age of 55, and died 7 years later from cancer.

Great video! Love your channel! You can do a part 2 solely on what Tony Curtis was buried with! Tons of stuff! Check out the Grunge’s article. There are many on the subject but imho, the grunge’s is the best! Keep up the awesome work! Looking forward to what’s to come!

Thank you for this unique cemetery video. This is my first time here. I love exploring cemeteries in my native upstate - New York.
So much history , and appreciation and respect for those that have gone before us.
Thanks again. I will follow along on your journey. , Dean ( in Syracuse )

Our family tradition is two silver coins to pay the man rows the barge over the River Jordan. Don't know how that tradition started in our family

I just happened to stumble upon your channel and enjoyed the few videos I watched so far. You should continue the graves of famous people that are off limits to the public and what famous people are buried with! And possibly the clothing they were buried in!

My mom was buried with a bottle of Pepsi, knitting needles and yarn. Dad said when he died he wanted a picture of his bride, my bulldog Otis' ashes and his wedding ring. Dad had to wait 16 years to be with his bride but we followed his wishes. Then, as we did for our mom in 1998, we did the last thing we could ever do for him. His children covered his grave with dirt. It was therapeutic and dad would have laughed as we carefully removed rocks so they wouldn't damage his vault. I miss them both so much.
