  • I made it to Skopje! The third and final country on my trip around the Balkans. Join me as I make low quality parody songs about meat pastry and complain about statues. This trip gave me a new insight into a different part of Europe and the Balkans (a region I knew nothing about before). I can conclude that it is a beautiful place to visit and travel through, the food is simple and hearty, the scenery is stunning and the people are friendly.
    0:00- Burek- Anti-hero parody
0:38- How did Macedonia become a country?
3:39- Trying Boza for the first and last time
    4:46- Too many Statues
    8:26- Independence Museum
9:29- Trying the famous Fast food 7 burger
    10:48- Outro

Thank you, although I'm worried I came across as too cynical.

How long does that sound go on? I won’t visit any country were I have to listen to that noise for no reason. That isn’t acoustic safety hazard the decibels are too loud.

I've just rewatched the video and have noticed there is always some level of background noise. It might be the traffic or the water fountains or the people but you're right! Hopefully it's not my camera.

The reason why you saw all those random bizarre things is because there is a very strong anti-Bulgarian and anti-Greek rhetoric in North Macedonia. Sadly, those are the consequences of Yugoslavia and the local population, especially the diaspora that were able to emigrate to Australia and US, have such a mindset. The majority of those statues you saw are mainly Greek and Bulgarian figures. They needed to do this to fill their museum. They intentionally built a Holocaust Museum and showing oh how bad Bulgaria is because it sided with the Nazis (which is true), but playing the victim card. They destroyed very old monuments showing evidence that we were once a single nation divided between 2 peoples. They will deny they understand Bulgarian and when you provide them with real archives and evidence, they get really pissed. Bulgaria was the first nation in the world to recognise them as an indepedant state (check many Internet sources if you do not believe me), we give them EU passport because so many have Bulgarian ancestory then they go to Europe and start cynically spitting. We gave them free 31 tanks precisely to avoid the bs wars and escalation that happened in Yugoslavia. Yes, we voted them in the past for EU entrym but simply demanded them to recognise their historical roots and language (which was codified in 1945) again check many sources online because both languages are very close. They included every other minority in the constitution with the exception of the Bulgarian one. How do you expect an average to remain neutral? Greece made them change their name, because they literally began "borrowing" history from them as well. How on Earth do they deny Alexander the Great as Greek? Finally, they also have "issues" with the increasingly large Albanians living there and "irritated" that they are not Macedonians. Their official script is Cyrillic, but because they were exposed to Yugoslavia use Latin quite a lot and will the claim Cyril and Methodius as theirs and they have a university in Skopje after them. Hello? They erected a huge statue of Samuel of Bulgaria with a wrong spelling and claim him as "Macedonian" as well. They love to play the woke socialist victim card and complain to Brussels how bad Bulgaria is and how it is seen as a bully. You have no idea how sulky and extreme the comments online are. So, yes you are very right when you said the country should be dissolved. They feel like the small dog that is always scared and barking and falsely claiming their identity is under threat.
