Amazing how under different circumstances this would sound jolly and fun but today the same sound seems hauntingly sad.

I too found this really sad. We are due on Oceana at the beginning of July - cant see that happening now. Like others said it sounded almost like they were crying - almost like whales in the sea. Thank you for this video as its a way of connecting with cruise ships while we are unable to cruise. Here's to a quick recovery so we can all continue to do the thing we love most.

Another great video, capturing what could be the last time for a few months to see some of these beauties. Such a sad and confusing time for all cruise operators, crew and guests. Keeping my fingers crossed that all this is over by July when my next cruise is!

The sound of the horns made it sound like they were crying and really sad, stay safe everyone

A moving sight (and sound). In better times all these ships would have been full of happy, excited people looking forward to their next port of call. It will be a while (several months I suspect) but cruising will bounce back. I feel for the crew.

Lovely ship. Fantastic captain and crow. Enjoyed ever minute of my Caribbean cruise aboard last year. Thank you all so much.

That's so sad, but I am happy to say my partner and myself had a great cruise on her to Northern Europe earlier in the year, Loved it so much have booed again next year this time on Ventura,

So sad, but cruising will be back and it'll be just that little bit more extra special!

Great video Steve. I liked this ship and cruised on her several times. At least she is not being sold off to some foreign company and being given a weird name! She still looks good apart from the drab funnel colour now. I much preferred the traditional buff funnel and without the union flag business up on the bow! The cruise business has not changed for the better in my opinion. I have seen it change over the last 40 years, so count myself lucky to have experienced more exciting times on ships! Brought back many happy memories though, so cheers for taking the time to get this footage. ; )

Seems you spoke to soon Johnny, she was sold to the Greeks not long after this, and as far as i can see, she has been sat in Patras ever since. a facebook memory came up today 23.02.2023 highlighting my last cruise on her down to the Canaries Spain and Portugal three years ago. i have been on Ventura 5 times and Britannia once and have to say my best time was had on Oceana, much better ambience. mine was the last full cruise she undertook and we went into lockdown soon after returning. she did start a cruise after ours but had to turn around due to the pandemic.

@@terrystevens5261 Hush my mouth! Sitting in Patras is the slippery slope to the breakers yard usually! We cruised on her in the Caribbean and got some terrific aerial shots from a helicopter one year when we were at Antigua. We were doing a trip to Montserrat (brilliant experience). The huge ships of today have no real ambience so I totally agree with you on that. We cruised up the Amazon on the old Artemis (1200 passengers) fantastic cruise and everybody had the same buzz of excitement as it was an adventure cruise. Glad we did all that stuff when we did now! Happier days!
      😉👍

@@johnnyhollis9977 Someone on here said that she is a floating hotel which would make sense as she has not moved since arriving in Greece. i was on Ventura in the Bay of Biscay back in 2012 in the middle of a huge storm. coming the other way was Oceana, she looked impressive battling her way south through huge waves. happy days.

@@terrystevens5261 Hi, yes she could take the waves quite well with that nicely shaped bow! I tried looking up to see what was going on with her now and it's been quite fluid recently! Not really sure what is going on with her but hopefully she wont get scrapped just yet. Having been on many ships over the years I have seen many sent for an unwelcome scrapping and I must admit that I find it pretty painful after the memories and adventures, along with all the people that we have met. I try not to think that they are no longer with us as it's very sad in a lot of ways! Still we have the video footage! 😉👍⚓ (I cant be doing with the huge party ships)!!!

Dont worry Steve. Cruising next year will bounce back. We're still shown aboard the maiden cruise of Iona but very much doubt if she will sail on that date as the whole season is Norway which aren't allowing ships anyway.
    Lets watch this space.
    As always great footage.

As close as I'm going to get.
Supposed to sail on first time cruise tomorrow. Looking forward to the future though when, hopefully, all this is behind us and we can see the world again.

    • @johnnyhollis9977

That's rotten luck Martin. Cruising has changed due to the American influence which has not been to British tastes in administration etc. Sorry, I have assumed that you are in the UK! The added hidden extras can be uncomfortable so think things through before committing to extra packages etc. It depends on what you want from a cruise really, so I hope that you enjoy when things return to normal. : )

I wonder what will happen to the crew members who hail from all over the world. God Bless everyone.

Hello Steve sad to see these LADIES OF THE SEAS laid-up but hopefully they will be back in Southampton in the not to distant future. Princess Cruises late last week cancelled my South Pacific cruise which was to depart in 2 days time (21/3). I am wondering about the Arcadia completing her world cruise. She left Fremantle Western Australia on 12/3 for Colombo in Sri Lanka. She was then diverted in Durban in South Africa where she should arrive either 21or 22 March. I know she is due back on 9th April in Southampton. Is P&O UK releasing any information in England about her progress back to UK. Hoping all this coronavirus might clear up before October as still have my booking for Norway on Arcadia. Please take care Steve and your family.

And add Arcadia, Britannia, Azura, then we have p&O’s new ship, and she’s the same size as qm2

  • @stratac30
    @stratac30 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The Government need to seriously consider requisitioning 2 or 3 of these P & O ships and turning them into hospital ships, to relieve pressure on hospitals so giving them additional bed space. It’s been done before in National emergencies, admittedly during war times, but these are exceptional times.

We were offered a full refund on our cruise, which was due to sail yesterday (4 April).
We chose to transfer to a later cruise (20 July, this year, which will not happen)
We did this to help the cruise company. If everyone got a refund, P&O would not have any money.
