Watch selections from silent films created by Reverend S. S. Jones, who came to Oklahoma Territory in 1889. Scenes of traditionally All-Black towns of Oklahoma include Taft, Clearview, Melvin, and Boley in the 1920s.
This film was produced by Bruce Fisher and the Oklahoma Historical Society.

How incredibly awesome it was that this video was recorded. A good mount of footage t that. More importantly, was how these recordings survived all this time. Absolutely phenomenal scene to witness of all times, the current moments. I’m so proud to see films like this. Those football players barely had on padding. Since I’m just learning about this town, I’m searching to find out what happened to it. I’m afraid to know if white people (KKK) demolished this town as they did the other successful Black towns. Wow, just wow!
