Used to do this with a clean rubbish bin, loads of ice and at least 2 cases of beer and a few white wine bottles for summer bbq's when i used to work in a hotel bar back in the '90's
I can verify this process as that was always the way we used to do it back in the ol' days...and the water stays colder as well because salt water is colder than fresh water. I'm pretty sure they also confirmed this on 'Mythbusters' as the fastest way to cool drinks of all their experiments.
