This is very well researched and nicely delivered. The gameplay on screen is giving me something to look at while I listen, and it's making me wonder if I spend waaaayyy too much time trying to visibly represent exactly what I'm saying, sentence by sentence. You've got me wondering. Good stuff.
In my rural small town midnight launches were actually at 10pm so the staff could go home early. We still had tournaments and parties but it was that much sweeter to not wait 2 hours. My last time Panda Express closed and offered us 1/2 off on the food left. It was heaven!
When these digital storefronts were introduced in the 360/PS3 era, the writing was on the wall. It’s much more convenient to just buy it at home than to drive to a store or even order on Amazon. There’s definitely things they could have done differently to mitigate this, but now it’s just full of funko pops and random toys and shirts. They’re trying to get into the retro game market which has exploded since COVID, but that may not save them. I’ve also talked to managers that say they’re getting more involved with the Pokemon TCG and it’s sounds like they could be looking at hosting tournaments. Either way, the days of waiting in line all day for a new game are over
@@Funguy117 By "North" do you mean Canada or like northern United States? I see pictures of EB Games in Canada and am like "damn that looks like a real ass store."
@@RedCometXIII Yup, Canada; EB Games was the place to get games :(. I understand when you touched on space and clutter at stores, EB Games feels like it has more knickknacks per square footage. Thanks for your time :)
I agree, the staff are the only reason I go there, a couple years ago , at my local one, the staff were really rude so I stopped going. The staff rotated since, and now they are really friendly and they are really the reason why I do my preorders there
@@BigEOT3 Bruh tell me about it it. I bought my first diecast in years in 2022 (Kurt Busch Kansas win) and was shocked at how not detailed it was. And I got the Elite. An early 2000's ARC is better than a 2024 Elite which makes no sense at all.
As a kid (about 13-14) for any occasion where me and my older brother would get money, be it a birthday or Christmas, we would end up in GameStop. We would wander their small store for hours, playing the demo Nintendo Switch as it had just came out and my parents didn't have any interest in a console that seemed marketed towards young kids, so it was our only outlet to play the Switch. We would look at pre-owned games, accessories we'd see for the first time there, GameStop exclusive figures and whatnot. Just kids burning as much time as possible. Now I go in there and look at tons of accessories that you can get better versions of on amazon for similar or cheaper prices, overpriced computer tech ($200 for a keyboard?? I can't even fathom,) consoles that I used to see in there over a full decade ago for the price they were brand new, $40 DS games... It's just not a fun experience. I'd much rather go thrifting or go to a local pre-owned games store.
We got a young man in here. Here in Charlotte there are basically no mom n pop shops. The only one they was around closed a couple years ago while a local chain took their old space. That chain started as one store and was so awesome, but now they've grown too big for their britches and are basically GameStop 2.0 with less selection. I'm not even joking when I say that. Place is more about collectibles and anything that's not actual video games.
@@RedCometXIII I remember PS3 kiosks aswell, but they weren't super common for the next generation unless they were the switch for some reason! Also yeah, the local disc store here in Grand Rapids is Vidiots (a great store owned locally) or DiscTraders which is a store primarily focused on preowned games
I have several good memories of midnight releases too, the last time I went into a GameStop (maybe 8 years ago?) I remember seeing Funko Pops and other crap EVERYWHERE. I just walked back out. 😂
I don't have anything against POPS but they have taken over any store that sells pop culture anything. There's a local chain of video game stores around here that basically puts pops before games and that does drive me nuts.
How does this video only has 77 views(at the time of me watching). GameStop is something else. I know that much for a fact and I try to avoid them at all cost. The only reason I know movie stop exist is because I saw one a long time ago.
Man I went to GameStop to buy my dad the new modern warfare and the experience was just so bad the dude I. The store was helpful but even he looked annoyed that I didn’t have my ID to buy a game
FIFA outsells NFL by far. Yet, none of the games ever really invent or improve ... They are the textbook examples of milking cows and ruined by pay 2 win mechanisms. Don't know anyone that was excited about a new release the last 7~9 years.

To be fair, those GameStop NASCAR paint schemes were awesome.
