A cholesterol level of 450 at 23 years old is crazy. I work in a CVICU. We take care lots of heart patients and open heart surgeries who had to get bypass graft. Highest I have seen was 1100 but that was an 80 year old farmer who ate eggs and bacon every morning, steak and whiskey for dinner and didnt take his meds. 90% of our patients are there due to poor health decisions early in life and she is going to be next. Ive seen a 28 year old need open heart surgery, I bet she'll beat that record. Keeps me in a job though
@@magyararon6918 You know that the obese people with these heart problems often times have higher cholesterol because of their weight and diet. If this girl already has an extremely high cholesterol level, she will be in the same position.

what bothers me the most about these people isn't their disgusting diet choices, but that they're publicizing it and acting like they're nutritionists/dieticians/scientists who know the _real_ facts about food, and spread all this BS to their often impressionable and gullible audiences.

What people her age don't realize is that their age is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Her body may be in overdrive, but because she's young, her body can keep up for now. She's wearing out her body twice as fast; when she gets older (if she makes it that long), she will feel it hard. I challenge them to show me a 45-55 year-old person doing this same diet without dying or significant health risks.
Oh she is one of “I was vegan and now I’m carnivore”. These people don’t need change in diet, they need therapist to figure out why they jump directly into the very end of the spectrum. I mean I'm personally not vegan, but if you pick decent foods you can hit literally every category and be very healthy. One of the issues is some vegans don't realise that and just assume because they're eating vegan food they must be healthy.
This!!! Thank you! Im 4 years vegan and early on was very unhealthy bc i was eating a lot of frozen premade vegan "junk food". Now I mainly eat tofu and just make sure Im getting everything I need, the only supplement I need is the occasional b12. You can be healthy or unhealthy as a vegan, just as you can be healthy or unhealthy with almost any other diet.
Yes. I’m a vegetarian (used to be vegan but felt li3 I was missing out eating cheese) and people think that being vegan means you’re healthy. But, there are vegan doughnuts. Vegan pizza. Oreos are vegan.
The biggest issue with these influencers is that they're genuinely convincing a LOT of people into these dumb lifestyles, how many people like this have convinced many people into lifestyles that are leading them into an early grave.
Recently I threw my life around. I started exercising, getting up early, broke up a bad relationship, and most importantly switched to eating only carrots. I feel better than ever. A carrot-only-diet is the key to health.
When I was six I was visiting my Aunt and I told her that she was orange and she laughed. Turns out she was juicing carrots so much she was toxified and had to get medical help. This story is true though.
DUDE!! that's great BUT only eating carrots wont give you enough vitamins, minerals, amino acids, carbs, oils, sugars, which are NEEDED for you body. Get a healthy diet where everything is in portions and ratioes to each other. Get a dietician!!!
Look, I've been vegan for 7 years and completely healthy at 43. I get regular blood tests just to make sure I'm not missing anything. The key for my fiance and I is we eat a whole bunch of different stuff . Variety is the ticket to success and should be with any diet.I honestly don't know what people eat/don't eat when they go on these plant-based diets that they end up feeling so crappy. It's really bizarre to me. I 100% realize it's not for everybody and everybody's different, but it's so weird to me how people can go from "vegan to carnivore overnight" when vegan is a lifestyle. What they did was they went from a plant-based diet to carnivore. And judging by how extreme she is with her carnivore diet, I can't imagine she was doing a plant-based diet even close to remotely correct. As August said, she just has an overall unhealthy relationship with food. And that's veru typical of people who jump from diet to diet, especially the extreme diets.
@vickibarkley2810me too. Even the “you have to supplement out the ass” when literally the only supplements I’ve heard of most vegans taking is B12. But I’ve been vegan for 10 years and have never needed that or anything else (I’ve had blood work done). But I’ve known people who do eat meat and still have to take B12 too.
I think, not a 100% sure, but I think he's distinguishing vegan "diet" from vegan lifestyles. I've definitely had friends who aren't vegan in mentality but "go vegan" to lose weight and they ended up with some nutrient deficiencies. The caveat being that their version of vegan wasn't well researched and included a lot of technically vegan food that isn't healthy. Like oreos, dark chocolate, vegan burgers, the food itself is technically vegan but I'd be hard pressed to call it healthy. They did have to supplement out the ass and ended up not being vegan anymore. Ofc since they just did it it to lose weight I imagine they weren't super careful either necessarily.
Thank you for saying this! I really like August and his videos, but I've noticed his negative take on veganism, too, and it really bugs me. As you said, you always have to take a look at what exactly it is that people eat. A vegan person can have a completely well-balanced, healthy diet and an omnivore can have a lacking, unhealthy diet - and vice versa. If one eats meat but his diet only consists of frozen pizza, burgers etc., that's definitely way less healthy than a well-rounded vegan diet with lots of vegetables and important nutrients. If on the other hand one only eats vegan frozen pizza, vegan burgers etc., an omnivore diet with lots of vegetables and important nutrients would be healthier in comparison. It's true that you do have to supplement vitamin B12 as a vegan, you can get anything else from natural ingredients though, if you do it right.
Right tbh no one needs to diet anyway unless they have health conditions like diabetes or celiacs and even then when you do it for so long its just your lifestyle at that point, i wish people would normalize just eating a variety of fresh foods, meats fish, veggies, grains and starches, even if vegan as you said, plenty of protein rich non animal foods, its not as hard as people make it out to be its just that most people dont wanna spend time learning about proper nutrition which takes more than watching tik toks and an article or two, took me years to be able to eat intuitively to the point where im always confident ive made healthy choices and not eating too much or too little, of course there's the occasional eating out as well which now feels like a really good treat rather than something i have to feel guilty about every week, also most people can't afford to get premium cuts of meat or meat in which the animals arent abused to hell and full of hormones, so this now becomes very dangerous for your average person buying from a grocery store
I have been vegan for years as well and not suffering from any vitamin or nutritional deficiencies. I don't have to supplement much other than vit D and B12, which most people should probably supplement as they age anyways. I agree, varied diet is the key. It's not just spinach and kale....and yeah if that is all you eat you aren't really doing vegan right August!

I'm not eating vegetarian myself but a vegetarian diet can be perfectly healthy without artificial substitutes if you do it right. Plenty of vitamins, good oils (try flax/linseed oil for your omega3s), minerals and - yes - also protein to be found in plants. I love lentils, kidney beans and peas for that reason, for example.
I wouldnt say it's the best though, especially with vitamin B12 deficiency. Carnivore is slightly above it for me because you can eat liver which can give the extra nutrients needed. Either way I still feel like having those limiting diets is just shooting yourself in the foot
The only thing in her wacky argument that is correct is the hair, skin, nails getting better. A lot of red meat food is high in collagen which is good for those things. But having clear skin doesn’t mean you have clear arteries 💀

I’ve been plant based for a year. I had been lactose intolerant since high school (I’m almost 50 now), and in the past few years I would get sick any time I ate meat. It didn’t matter if I ate meat from a restaurant or I cooked it myself, I would have digestive issues. So it was just easier to remove animal products altogether. It My meals now are nothing extreme, they’re just fairly normal meals just plant based. Do I supplement? Most definitely because I know there are three nutrients in particular(B12, vitamin D, and Omega 3) that are difficult to acquire on a plant based diet. I take a daily supplement that is geared towards vegans. And with the state of agriculture these days, I’ve seen it suggested that even meat eaters should supplement B12. I can’t imagine having cholesterol at 450. My doctor commit me to the looney bin for believing that was perfectly fine and normal.

It's not a "Vegan to Carnivore" pipeline. It's a Fad-Diet pipeline. These sorts of people flock from one trendy diet to the next, no matter how extreme some of them can be. Remember the Fruitarian, liquid, shake and juice diets? These people don't research how to manage these types of diets/lifestyles properly, which leads to failure, and they then rush off to find the next popular food-fad without learning anything about how to be properly healthy. Please keep in mind that Veganism isn't a diet; it's an activist movement (whether practiced privately or more publicly) based on a set of moral/ethical values around the treatment of animals. This stance goes far beyond just food; it also encompasses other products such as clothes, accessories, makeup, furniture, etc. All in an effort to avoid the use of products that exploit animals for their creation (Where Possible, and this is the point a lot of people skip over when discussing this - a tribe in the middle of nowhere won't have access to these alternatives, but someone with a quick walk or drive to the store does. Medicine that saves your life or a vaccine are outside of the movement, due to how uncommon/nonexistent alternatives are for those products. If it's truly your life on the line, then you survive - the veganism movement acknowledges this). Sorry, it's kind of irritating to see fad-dieters labeling their choice as "Vegan", when they're just on a poorly managed Plant-Based diet (and there's nothing wrong with picking plant-based as a dietary choice, as long as you research your options for it properly - according to the WHO it can be perfectly healthy if you do it right). Fad-dieters claiming these sorts of things also goes into how so many who don't actually have Celiac like to claim similarly about gluten-free stuff, simply because they've seen the fad diets surrounding this buzz-word - because it's "healthier". There are some who go way too far with Keto without consulting an expert, and so on - remember the Atkins diet, whose founder died after advocating it for years? Then you have people claiming they're vegetarian but think that somehow eating chicken or fish still allows them to say that they're vegetarian (and there are way too many who think this makes sense - thank you Catholic Church of 300-500 years ago; it certainly helped the fishermen's livelihoods for Lent, but now too many are confused)... The list goes on for this sort of nonsense. It's also why Veganism, Vegetarianism, Keto and Celiac aren't taken as seriously as they should be in food-related (and others, like allergies/intolerances) situations. Mass adoption of these terms by those who don't understand - or who want to undermine - make it harder for those who are serious about these choices, lifestyles, ethical/religious stances, and diets.
My only question is: how can she afford this lifestyle in this economy??? And she’s lying, the Oatly milk doesn’t have any oil in it, it’s just oats water and a little bit of salt

I wonder if the people who go "oh i switched to eating only this and felt better-" understand the nutrient and vitamin deficiencies take months to occur. So naturally if you're going months only getting one set of vitamins, and you suddenly start then getting the other set, for that bit where you have one built up, and are now fueling the other, you're going to feel good. But then when you switch to having the 2nd set replenished, but the first start running out. You're going to stop feeling so good. It's not like your bodies only use the vitamins from just the last meal you ate. You'll keep running on what you had from the vegetarian diet, until you have none left. And then you'll start feeling bad again if your meats aren't providing something.

I absolutely love your content and channel dude. Your quick wit often has me in uproarious laughter. One thing that I think you need to educate yourself on though is veganism. We don't cut out entire food groups at all and I don't understand why you think that. Instead of meat we eat tofu, soya products, tempeh, seitan, lots of protein packed veggies, pulses, seeds, nuts etc. I've been vegan for 12 years and not once have I been protein deficient, nor have I had any other deficiencies that were caused by diet (I have multiple chronic health conditions, some of which affect nutrient absorption). I find that it's people who go plant based and eat processed foods, convenience foods and don't pay attention to their nutrient intake who end up deficient and ill. Being vegan is not "well established to be unhealthy" at all and I'm dying to know where you got that from. Many cardiologists, gastroenterologists, endocrinologists and other types of doctors recommend a plant based diet because of all the health benefits in fact. I think the US is huge!y swayed by the meat and dairy industries who lobby the government, pay for studies to 'confirm the benefits' of meat and dairy, giving many people the impression that they are essential components of a person's diet. The reason she feels so good is probably because she's eating nothing but protein. Her body is likely using protein as an energy source. The body doesn't usually use protein for energy. The only time it does is to compensate for a lack of nutrients elsewhere. So it's very likely she is deficient in many vitamins and most likely carbs which is the body's true source of energy.

I have never met anyone with an unusual or extreme diet that is doing it for fun. They are doing it as a last resort because they can’t find an expert, Dr or medication that can relieve their symptoms. Same with this young woman, it’s not healthy, but at least she can relieve some of her pain enough to function better.
Yeah, I felt some of his takes in this video were not charitable. He showed her saying that she tried a moderate diet and it didn't work for her - perhaps she's mistaken or lying, but if we take her at face value, then this diet is the first thing that helped her feel better. I think this kind of diet has got to have a lot of health downsides (like the cholesterol), but if this is genuinely making her feel better than the alternative, sure. I do mind people like this telling others it's a miracle cure and roping people into fad diets and disordered eating though. It's super sad how often fringe "cures" or outright scams are peddled all around any space that has desperately sick people in it whose doctors aren't listening to them or can't/won't give them anything to at least try. I'm one of these very sick people (long covid) and wading through all the BS in search for something mildly plausible to try is exhausting.
No. That's simply not true. A lot of them have eds. Also as someone with chronic illness, we don't then say "look at my deadly cholesterol." I have a condition that can only be controlled by my diet. There's levels of stringency and the people who long term eat this extreme constantly, it's not a physical issue that causes it. It's psychological. You are right though, she is suffering.
@lachouette_et_le_phoque see that's the thing that's funny about your diet affecting your health, you think you feel fine until you actually start to feel fine. The lady who said her cholesterol is bad but all her labs are fine is not someone who can objectively tell you she ate healthy, nor is she a good source on if she is healthy currently. Also, a lot of the problems she cited can literally clear up with entering your mid 20s.

I love her saying that drinking raw milk does not affect her lactose intolerance but that the DAIRY FREE milk did. Gurl, you could just get Lactose Free Milk. it's literally milk.... minus the lactose
I love the "raw milk" she showed was just kefir which is fermented. Kefir is actually really good for lactose intolerant folks because the fermentation will actually reduce the overall lactose by consuming it. And also, them all drinking coffee is because they would have an incredibly hard time with bowel movements without it. No fibre in your diet tends to have that effect.
a note: i don't think comparing plant-based diets to this is at all fair. you can get everything you need on a plant based diet without any supplements, you just have to know how. you can't just eat a salad 3 times a day, you'll fuckin die. i've been vegan for like. 20 yrs now and the only supplements i take are the same ones anyone would get in their own fortified foods like cereal. i don't eat anything ultra expensive or special, and my only health concerns are not diet related at all (thanks, genetics). you just have to have variety in your diet.

It's more difficult to get all the needed proteins and aminoacids when not eating animal produce, but it should be done right. I'm sure this chick wasn't eating right when she was vegan

In my early 20's my diet was consistently $1 McChicken, small fries, 2 $1 burritos, a few cigarettes, and as much alcohol as physically possible...best shape of my laugh. Now I'm 37 and if I tried that I think I would need to go to the hospital

My body thrives off of nuts, fruits veggies and everything else.
And then you'll start feeling bad again if your meats aren't providing something.
what vitamins missing exactly?
There is a lot of science that the vegan lifestyle is healthy (ofc you need a balanced diet but you need this with any diet). And yes, you have to supplement B12 but that's it.
@vickibarkley2810It’s called bias.
A strict, educated vegan diet supervised by a nutritionist, maybe.. but most vegans don't know wtf they are doing or, at the very least, undereat.
@vickibarkley2810He keeps talking about science yet ignores the science saying plant based diets can be sustainable for all stages of life...
@@stoopwoop There is no actual peer reviewed science journals that support this. There is however for meat. Intelligent life came to be because of meat and its nutrition levels.
@@chrisallen1668 There are multiple article supporting this. Both the ADA and BDA have this position.
I'd seriously recommend you do some reading into the benefits of a plant based diet.
Love your videos regardless
Why do all the tik carnivores seems to exclusively eat beef. I mean you can eat chicken
, pork and fish those are meats too but they pick like all ribeyes and shorts ribs which are pretty expensive. I don't how anyone can afford ribeyes multiple timed a week let alone a day. If she spends less than 1,000 a month on food I'd be shocked.
likely because beef tastes better, is higher in nutrients than pork & chicken, and ribeye is high in fat which is what you need when in ketosis. But yeah only eating ribeye steaks is gonna hurt the bank account.
Probably because this is a culture war thing for them. The government says eating red meat is bad, therefore I will only eat red meat.
You're assuming that what they show themselves eating is actually what they eat all the time. For all I know all those steaks she cooked is for a dinner party. I want to see her eat a whole stick of butter.
@@DistinctiveBlend I'd agree that beef tastes better, but variation is a thing. I'd get sick of eating only meat itself, let alone only one kind of meat.

She's doing it wrong, her coffee is plant-based.
She's not healthy, she's just young. You can really abuse your body in your teens and low-mid 20s and get away with it. I want to see her when she's in her 30s or 40s- if she makes it that far without having a significant cardiac event.

Also as someone with chronic illness, we don't then say "look at my deadly cholesterol."
I have a condition that can only be controlled by my diet.

As for the nurtient deficiency...she did it wrong. You can have a nutrient rich diet as a vegan, your simply not eatinv enough food with the nutrients you need otherwise

raw milk is even scarier now considering bird flu was found in bovines earlier this month. Fragments of the virus were found in pasteurized milk (they were destroyed by pasteurization and aren't harmful) but yeah, avian influenza is getting serious.
The fear-mongering is even more serious.
70% of us population drinks coffee.
Shes not worried about her cholesterol levels cause she doesnt have much time left; she has the cholestorol level of homer simpson
a note: i don't think comparing plant-based diets to this is at all fair. you can get everything you need on a plant based diet without any supplements, you just have to know how. you can't just eat a salad 3 times a day, you'll fuckin die.
i've been vegan for like. 20 yrs now and the only supplements i take are the same ones anyone would get in their own fortified foods like cereal. i don't eat anything ultra expensive or special, and my only health concerns are not diet related at all (thanks, genetics). you just have to have variety in your diet.
agree, I have been a vegetarian but wasn't doing it right, so I became sick a lot and it all went away once I started eating meat again. It's more difficult to get all the needed proteins and aminoacids when not eating animal produce, but it should be done right. I'm sure this chick wasn't eating right when she was vegan
You can't get everything you need from a plant-based diet. Most vegans end up taking supplements because of this
