    The 7548 movement was the first quartz diver from SEIKO in 1978 and was based on the 6309 movement and shares many common parts. Most of the 7548 movt are steel parts as apposed to plastic in later models.

    Thanks for a great video.
    I recently bought a 7548-7000 from early 1980 for the very reason you bought yours - SKX007 looks and dimensions, but a far more accurate movement inside. The previous owner of my watch had the crystal replaced, an entire movement overhaul (no re-jewel of the hand stem though) with all gaskets and seals replaced, pressure tested to 100m, and timed to 0.01sec per day. No work was done on the case, nor the bezel insert since both were actually pretty good and it would be a shame to take some of the “age look” away.
    For me, this watch is pretty much perfect. Robust, waterproof, accurate and all I have to do is to swap it out on its bracelet, or a nylon NATO or a handmade leather strap, and it suits almost any occasion.
    These watches are not expensive. Mine set me back just £275, with all the above mentioned work done.
    It’s a keeper!
    Keep well, and keep loving your watch :-)

      WOW I'd love to see that watch! Do you want to upload a video about it?

    I wasn't aware about the SKX father so to speak and even less it came with a quartz movement. The dial and case are almost a one to one copy which is great surprise. Really nice video.

    I used to own this watch when I was a Royal Australian Navy Diver. I bought it in a shopping mall in Singapore in 1982. Loved it so much, went around the world with it, many diving adventures in so many oceans. The lume was fantastic, I would shine a torch on it for 5 minutes and it would remain illuminated during my stealth dive training with oxygen rebreathing units at night, planting bombs on targets far away. It got stolen in 1989, out of my car when visiting the waterfall in Tamborine Mountain, Gold Coast Hinterland. I still remember the face of the guy who smashed my car window and took it, of course he and his idiot mates were gone by the time I got back to the car.

    Fantastic watches. If I had to get rid of my entire Seiko collection and go down to one watch, it would be a 7548-70xx or a 7C43-7010.

    I recently went down this rabbit hole myself. And have purchased a 7548-700B (pepsi version), which I love! I have the SKX009, but I agree with you that the 7548 is the perfect watch. I have a 7548-7000 on the way as well :).
    I would love Seiko to reissue this one, even if they put a solar quartz I would buy both the black and the Pepsi in a hart beat!
    You are correct on the case shape being more like the turtle, I also thought the same even before watching your video.

    Feel like the closest you get today would be the prospex solar divers, though they are very slim and sits and looks more like a "seiko submariner"

    If Seiko were to start making a new version of theese i would buy 5 of them. It's my dreamwatch aswell.

      They are difficlut to obtain. I just lost at an eday auction trying to buy one in good condition.

    Seiko should release some more quartz divers. An SPB143 in quartz would be a good start. My favourite watch at the moment is my SNE573P1.

      Agree! More battery powered quartz, not solar.

    I think that movement has more in common with the tuna if anything

    • @engineercave007
      @engineercave007  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not only. It has a lot in common with the automatic 150m Turtle movement of the time. Lot of parts are interchangeable.

    • @ivanmejia6843
      @ivanmejia6843 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It has lots of interchangeable parts with the 6309 movement. 7548 is basically a quartz 6309 version.
