I now understand why a quality bodywork and paint cost so much and take so long, wow you do a great job and you can tell you are proud of every vehicle you do
When uou take your truck in for repair. It doesn't get this kind of treatment..this is concours quality body and paint work. I never would have exprcted this kind of work on an old beater Suzuki... a regular guy or insurance type job would never get this kind of attention We couldn't begin yo afford this kind of paintwork. I doubt Robbiw will be forthcoming on what it would cost to have this done. He'll is, it'll just get banged ip.in the Walmart parking lot...lol
Ed spent 200.00 on this. They spent 3000.00 for three gallons, let me say that again three gallons of paint for this little truck how many damn coats or are you putting or is it a parka on this thing he want to use it not show it OH THAT IT Ed's going to pebble beach
This is the first time I have ever seen a car painted properly on tv, film, or TH-cam. The level of detail (all necessary) is insane. Ps we already love it. Loved Paul saying you got all the bolts out (dirty laugh!) love seeing all you guys in the video, ps I also love the little post credits b roll stuff.👍
For sure want more group projects with all these people that put the work in. I mean they're each building trail wreckers ATM which would be fun to see them help each other and test them together!
I was an outside salesman for PPG products and Spies Hecker in Sacramento California for years and the biggest problem I had with my shops was painter consistency of procedures. You have showed that you are procedurally constant through all of your jobs to the tee. I see that since you are the owner and the painter it matters to you that once you made the decisions of what products you use that you stay with it. Shops that have separate painters seem to jump around as to what materials are used and when they have durability issues later on down the line with peeling and other failures. This I see as your major strength. This will insure that 2o years from now your reputation will hold solid and until or unless you change these procedures your reputation will be Steller for decades to come. The same goes for your body repair. Congratulations on being the best shop I have ever witnessed.
An owner who is the painter can't last too long. Maybe in a small 4 stall shop, but this shop is built to be a production shop. Maybe it's hard to find skilled labor in this part of Utah. An owner is busy enough without having to paint everything, he's gonna burn himself out fast.
The amount of hours (prep, coat, reprep, recoat) is mind boggling! I had no idea this would be the amount of work that would go into a restoration like this…. I have incredible respect for you and your team, and much much more for your craft, now that I better understand it. Absolutely Beautiful work! 👌
I’ve painted cars, and I’ve had cars painted. The reason (to my mind) that Paul and Matt are there is to hurry you along. Ed is a wonderful inspiration and we can all see the respect which Matt (“a fair witness”) affords him, but the days he has left to drive are quickly winding down. Each day that Robby explains the details of the perfect paint job is another day that Ed doesn’t have to enjoy his tribute. Get on with it Robby! Put your head down , ST!U, and get it done! If this presentation doesn’t hit the mark it will be the last RL video I ever play.

I can somewhat confidently say that this is the straightest, most perfect Subaru LJ20 to have EVER existed. These vehicles were stamped, assembled, and thrown out the door to the end customer and very little was done to ensure that they were straight or even when they were new. This one, however, has been lovingly massaged to perfection. It has become a museum piece. Well done to EVERYONE involved. As to Ed's reaction ... absolutely GOBSMACKED. It's going to take some time for him to take in what has been done. I think that there will be tears, but they will be reserved quiet ones. He's going to LOVE IT.
At Ed's age, might want to have a chair behind him when you pull the cove off the Nugget, trailer and bike. He will be surprised and I think he will hide his emotions until the camera is off. Thanks for making this project so exciting. Great job, it looks fantastic.

I don’t remember how I stumbled upon Matt’s recovery videos months back, but I have been following this whole “Golden Nugget for Ed” deal since day one with you guys! Whole thing is So awesome! I come home from a 12-13 hour day 5-6x a week and have to come see if there’s more progress on the Nugget! Really great stuff. Im from NY, moved to TN, KY, and a few other stops and now live in PA! You guys really make me wanna head west next and spend some time in that beautiful area! Thanks so much for sharing all of this. You guys Rock!
You guys really need to have a “first start party” with everyone that contributed to this recovery/rescue/rebuild when the Golden Nugget is first fired up. That will certainly be the epic milestone to cross.
Labor of love Robbie. You guys are awesome and so dedicated, not only to your profession, but to your friends as well. Been great to watch you guys run this marathon! Congrats!
I wish I could give this project 5 stars. What the group of you are putting together for Ed is amazing. The love, passion and dedication to your craft wows me. I think Ed will be overwhelmed that you all cared enough to do this for him. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💛💛💛💛💛
Ed is not going to cry. Gracious. He'll love it, and he'll wonder why people went through all that trouble. It's going to make for a funny reaction video - traditionalists like Ed understand that acts of kindness are a way of life, not an event to get all worked up over. Anyway, hello from New Brunswick, Canada. Been watching since you guys pulled the Nugget out of the wilderness last year. Excellent work - keep it up!
Robbie doing the body and paint. Paul doing the go and stop stuff and 13 35 Matt laying underneath the rear end pulling down on the trailer hitch to see the suspension travel. Amazing work by all! Oh and Michelle with the camera. Good stuff team Nugget builders. Thank you.
I wasnt bored with the sanding, learned a lot, especially about the hammer and dollys, and ther bl,ocking, have now started on my chevy s10 project using the knowledgeI learned here, keep up with the boring stuff, so this old man can learn new tricks
Without a doubt,THE best team/ extended family in the you tube world. No words describe how much good feeling this project has created. Thankyou for entertainment no television network can come close to producing
Ugh! Y’all are killing me! But it’s so cool to do it slowly take shape. I cannot IMAGINE what it’s taken in video editing alone to share this small amount of time with us. Hours and days and weeks! You know, if Ed doesn’t cry, bring it to me. I’ll cry for ya! 🚌
looks great,ya'll done such a great job on this lil buggy ,such great video, makes us spectators feel like we right in the garage with ya'll. ive enjoyed this series from the beginning ,when matt was dragging that thing down the river, sure don't look like the same thing now,I can't wait to see Eds reaction when he see it.thank you all.
I am so impressed with the tenacity you show working on getting everything perfect. So detailed oriented, I would love to see the nugget in person when it is done. I am sure the video won’t do it justice.
Seeing all the pain staking hours going into this to make it 100 percent perfect I'm really glad no one had to deal with the original plan of the chopped up body and pieced together. Not saying yall couldn't do it but man that would have been miserable for everyone involved. Great job and looking forward to seeing it finished.
The Nugget is looking fantastic I can’t wait to see it all painted and put together. Thanks to Kyle for helping out on the Nugget. Robby you and the entire crew are awesome for working so hard on the Nugget. I think Ed will love it smile and say you didn’t have to go to all that trouble, but he will be very grateful.
Ed will be standing there in disbelief. A small tear will run down his cheek and then say that you guys didn’t have to do all this. With the addition of the Rokon and the matching trailer, he’s going to be blown away! He’ll be absolutely dumbfounded, but his heart will be warmed beyond belief! Great job to all of you!!!
I think Ed might be slightly more cynical How many people know that Ed was Matt's original "camera man"? MORR started as a bit of a goof. Ed's watched the whole channel explode. So when he sees this project (dont forget matching trailer+Rokon), his first reaction will be gratitude, but he'll also know its part publicity stunt to help the channels. Will he care? Of course not; gold miners are always looking for a strike. So he understands the idea of the big payoff.
Your videos are awesome Robby, even cut down for time, people can finally see the amount of time and effort it takes to do perfect restorations and custom work. Awesome Job and awesome team!
We have watched every episode since we first found you just after Matt's golden nugget video. We will continue watching you even after the golden nugget is finished. You guys have become our Sunday morning ritual and any other time a video drops.
Your giving Ed something more than just a Golden Nugget, its a piece of his past made better by his friends that will carry into the future. You can not put a price tag or just a simple thank you, it came from the heart. Thank you for sharing.
Ed is going to have a prema-smile and laugh chuckle the whole time. He will be so impressed he will not know what to say ( ask him for the weather report and he won't know ). He will then ask about everything it took and what you did. He will drive this a ton too!
“A lot of work but worth it.” And that’s why Robby and the crew are so very good. Cool seeing Matt and Paul in your shop. I can’t see Ed crying but I think I might.
I love that Ed is actually gonna be able to use this. He’s gonna want to drive it everyday and it’ll be functional enough to do that. I wasn’t in favor of this level of restoration at first, but I understand now.
I have become addicted to watching everything you all have done, and are doing on the entire project. The time and effort and skill and rare parts that have been and is being donated by everyone involved is amazing. Ed is one very lucky man to be loved and respected by so many people. Perhaps having paramedics on standby when you reveal the nugget and bike and trailer to Ed,might be an idea. He just might pass out from the shock.
I love how when you guys point to the videos at the end, there's always the end guy pointing WAY off screen... Paul had the right idea lol... I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!! Looking beyond amazing. Fabulous work guys!
You guys at Layton Autobody are the best! You do such excellent painstaking work, and the whole crew are really nice, good people. And your wife and kiddos are icing on the cake. Love your channel, can't wait to see the Nugget done and then we are all very anxious to see your offroad Jeep project that you will build for yourself!
You guys do great work and when you're all together, it's magic! Paul.... you are funny and fun! Thanks guys for all you do (and of course the wive's that have the hardest job keeping their "men'" on the right track! LOL.
Wow the Nuggets looking really close to being done, so many hours of prep and paint, absolute killer paint job, I vote the original nugget body goes on the chassis from the donor body and a second nugget is put together so ed can bash about in the original too!
Hey Robby from NZ! You guys have done an incredible job on the bodywork and paint. I don't really understand why/how so many coats but I am sure the finish will be perfect. Paul is also a genius and Matt , just crazy with the idea to restore the GN in the first place. Well done.
Robby, I believe you have the best paint and body shop I’ve ever seen brother, your work is totally awesome my friend! The Golden Nugget is going to be AWESOME! I never knew it took this much work but you do an amazing job Robby! Thanks for sharing and I love your channel brother! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👌🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
No way this thing had this sort of love out of the factory. Absolutely amazing to watch Robby’s attention to detail. I can’t get enough of these updates!
The paint alone is $1000 per gallon. Body work and paint I would suspect 25k plus. Think of it in man hours. 1040 hours is six months of time for one guy....I would think they are near that.
@@donaldbrown6044 it's also a good way for robbie to spend a bit of time teaching his guys, on a project that's not exactly super pressing, its not a paying job for a customer they need to please, so if mistakes are made it can be put down to a learning experience without being a detriment to the shop.
Here's hoping and 🙏 Ed lives long enough to see it. "What did you do all that for?" Yeah that's what I've been saying. Ed is a simple guy and he only needs it to last the rest of his life. Which at this rate won't have it much longer.
Absolutely loved the way you ended this video, with Matt saying the sanding wasn't that hard! After watching all of your videos Robby, I laughed out loud. Oh that Matt!
I predict that Ed might shed a tear or two. The love and care that all of you have put into this project tells me all I need to know about the person that Ed is and what he means to all of you. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
I now understand why a quality bodywork and paint cost so much and take so long, wow you do a great job and you can tell you are proud of every vehicle you do

I love that Ed is actually gonna be able to use this. He’s gonna want to drive it everyday and it’ll be functional enough to do that. I wasn’t in favor of this level of restoration at first, but I understand now.
Bravisamo! Thanks everyone for letting us viewers be a.part of this, kinda.. I'm a happy camper!
You guys have poured your hearts and souls into this project for ED and I think it's cool.
So good to see this getting to final & back to Ed. I have to agree with Matt when presented to Him but also think His Mouth will drop open.
I love how when you guys point to the videos at the end, there's always the end guy pointing WAY off screen... Paul had the right idea lol...
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!! Looking beyond amazing. Fabulous work guys!
LOL, great finish seeing everone together!! Ed's a lucky guy.
It amazes me the the level of attention to detail ya'll put into everything, the tedious repetition and hours extended to complete the process.
Ed will be blown away. I hope you guys have a very special surprise reveal planned for Ed.
The Golden Nugget is going to be a dang museum piece when it's finished. 😁 Good job guys!!
Hands down the best project and collaboration I've ever seen on TH-cam. Love it mate!
Looking good Robby and crew; can't wait to see it after final clear coat and assembly!
Wow ! Almost ready to paint ! A week is a long time to wait ! It is turning out Amazing ! Thanks for sharing !
Great job guys.
Robby, I hope you get as many subscribers as it has cost you in dollars and minutes of time.
Robby*
I made that mistake too.
@@makattak88 oh! My bad. Sorry
I concur with the approval of Paul & Matt all the extra work y'all did is outstanding can't wait for the final paint video next week great video 😉👍
Paul’s gonna have to step up the game to follow that gazillion dollar paint job!
I worked in a custom shop briefly. Look at my Instagram. Doing mechanical work on it after it's been painted is a pain in the ass. Just wasn't for me.
The quality of your guys work is always amazing to me. You are incredible craftsman .
You guys do great work and when you're all together, it's magic! Paul.... you are funny and fun! Thanks guys for all you do (and of course the wive's that have the hardest job keeping their "men'" on the right track! LOL.
I never new how much work goes into going show car quality body work. Thanks for all your hours and hours and hours of priming and sanding
Wow the Nuggets looking really close to being done, so many hours of prep and paint, absolute killer paint job, I vote the original nugget body goes on the chassis from the donor body and a second nugget is put together so ed can bash about in the original too!
The rusty nugget!
I’ve got yer rusty nuggets right here…
That body is going to look better than factory new!! You guys do amazing work. Well done.
Eds going to say "shouldn't have done all that, a runner would've been good enough"
Exactly.
Hey Robby from NZ! You guys have done an incredible job on the bodywork and paint. I don't really understand why/how so many coats but I am sure the finish will be perfect. Paul is also a genius and Matt , just crazy with the idea to restore the GN in the first place. Well done.
Just wanted to make a small donation, Thanks!
Just saw this, thank you so much!!! We really appreciate it!
Golden Nugget......Best video series on You Tube...by far!! Love it!!
Can't wait for the next episode, great work guys 🖖
Robby, I believe you have the best paint and body shop I’ve ever seen brother, your work is totally awesome my friend! The Golden Nugget is going to be AWESOME! I never knew it took this much work but you do an amazing job Robby! Thanks for sharing and I love your channel brother! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👌🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
"This isn't as hard as Robbie says it is" 🙄 😒 Ay Matt. Great work gentlemen. 👏. God's blessings 🙌 🙏 from Tucson, AZ.
Robby, you and Paul have done an absolute magic show on the Nugget. Can't wait to see final reveal.
Thank you Robby...I have to CONFESS...I am a "GOLDEN NUGGET” Junkie...I don’t know if I can wait for a whole week for more "GOLDEN NUGGET”
why are you YELLING
My 3 favorite you tube video people together! What a great videoRobby!
This little thing is going to cost what a golden nugget would cost by the time it’s done.
More like a gold brick.😄
Those things have prices, this vehicle is PRICELESS!
No way this thing had this sort of love out of the factory. Absolutely amazing to watch Robby’s attention to detail. I can’t get enough of these updates!
Honest question: Since this seems to have become a concours-level paint job, what would this cost in the real world? $10k? $15k?
The paint alone is $1000 per gallon. Body work and paint I would suspect 25k plus. Think of it in man hours. 1040 hours is six months of time for one guy....I would think they are near that.
@@donaldbrown6044 it's also a good way for robbie to spend a bit of time teaching his guys, on a project that's not exactly super pressing, its not a paying job for a customer they need to please, so if mistakes are made it can be put down to a learning experience without being a detriment to the shop.
@@Beandiptheredneck This is something I hadn't considered. I just hope Ed lives to see it finished.
Wow! You are all awesome! Robby, you and your group do amazing work!
This isn't as hard as Roby says it is.🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I cannot wait to see the final reaction. If the old man doesn't shed a tear I'll be surprised. Great work everyone!!!
You have milked the golden nugget cow for way too long already
I milked your Mother for way too long.
Yes it's been quite a while but give them a break, they're doing it for free.
@@richardelliott9511 hah!
@@richardelliott9511 Free? you don't understand how YT works with a channel with this many views.
@@richardelliott9511 guess you didnt hear the part where he told matt you know why this is so expensive it takes freaking hoourrrsss
I predict that Ed might shed a tear or two. The love and care that all of you have put into this project tells me all I need to know about the person that Ed is and what he means to all of you. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
