My Russian fencing coach taught me this down guard in sport saber, it works well. You may think it leaves your head open to a head cut, but no.The up parry is quickly there
A! A+ if you included some close ups of hand positions :) fantastic videos though thank you they are very helpful and I am using them to learn my first bit of sword swinging!
I think doing an upwards cut transitioning into an overhead hammer/slash while taking a step forward would be very effective against an hesitating opponent
Actually, fools guard, upwards slash while taking a step back while opponent attacks, following with an overhead slash transitioning into a full charged stab would be a very beautiful combo
I don’t know if you still check the comments, but I have a question. Is there a technique or some kind of actual historical fighting style where you deliberately open up to take a hit in a less vulnerable spot or with low force delivered by the opponent, which then opens the opponent up to a potentially more damaging counter hit?. Or is this a stupid idea and it’s just never worth to „trade“ hits?😅
Your entire body is important. Get in the legs and you have less manoeuverability; get hit in the arms and now you have less attacking power, no shield or no sword; get hit in the chest and you get a russian roulette of effects tl;dr there is no time you want to get hit. I guess you could look for suicide strikes? But even then those are unlikely to be effective. I think what you may be looking for is in one-handed where you redirect an attack to your shield.
Are you the fool because you use the fool guard or am i the fool to attack you in your fool guard Nah Id win, I can understand that the others will get me a harsh time if they release their high guard expansion. *proceeds to get slashed and dies of blood loss* *he rises from the dead* What the? I was on the of death and used my reverse grip technique and finally i saw it! Interesting.. You are right..- YOURE SO RIGHT! Imaginery technique Hollow guard 🗡️🟣
These are easily the best training vids for solo work and beginers steps ive seen on youtube! Thankyou guys
Coming from a long background in saber when i picked up longsword this was very natural to me and my prefered guard
Is it a "fool's guard" because only a fool would use it, or Is it a "fool's guard" because only a fool would attack into it?
It fools people, this guard is deceptively effective.
@teutonicenjoyer5251 what is a good opening, match, attack stance to counter this?
Did you not watch the video!? Lol 😂 think for yourself you sheep.
@@noah_hill well you start by unscrewing the pommel

Works with knives as well, curiously enough
I learned this technique from ryonnosuke in sword of doom. It's like his secret weapon
I've heard u can't exploit fools stance for multiple attacks since it will lost the trick...is that true??

You're a fool to stay in the guard. And you are a fool to attack someone using the guard.
