As someone who grew up using tools but never being taught the PROPER USE and that there's such a thing as DIFFERENT TYPES of things, videos like this are a blessing to find. Now, decades later, I can occasionally come across something that educates me on what I don't know I don't even know. Thankyou for your videos and I've become a subscriber.
My dad to this day doesn't give a crap about doing things correctly so long as whatever is broken is "fixed" or whatever is needed built is made even if it is made poorly.

My grandpa has a huge collection of handsaws in his shop. This was one of the first lessons he taught me, "always use the right saw for the job."
That said, he has one saw that stays on his bench that he uses for almost everything. He says he files and sets his saw in a particular way that makes it a combination saw.
It's 17 inches long, and has roughly 11 teeth per inch. The teeth are filed in sets of 5. The first 3 are filed like a cross cut saw, then 2 flat teeth. He says he only sets the crosscut teeth at 0.002 either side. He won't let me touch the thing, so I take his word for it.

When I worked at Home Depot we used the same saw blade for cutting both, and people would always complain about those chips in the wood (since we offered free wood cutting) and i don't understand why they couldn't get this. Maybe this video would've been helpful lol

I'm one of the very few unfortunate people to know the instant difference between the two saws I took carpentry in the middle school before I was allowed to even use a table saw and this was one of the first tools I was introduced to and you explained it exactly how my carpentry teacher explained it 10-10 however one thing I would like to add is you can use metal saws that were designed to cut metal as a crosscut saw for wood
