I have a mother similar to this. Sometimes, we have to understand that we want things from our parents that they are unable to give us. I would have ended that relationship with no problem.

I feel really bad for that daughter. I can see her mom has childhood trauma, but we are living in modern times where she should at least understand how speaking that way to your kid is damaging & unacceptable! No matter how upset ive been with my child, the things she says to her daughter, those thoughts dont even pop into my brain. Also, my mom is 1st gen country side korean lady, & i got whacked & cussed out in korean all the time lol. My mom actually is a great woman, but i know she came from a very different & difficult life & had a lot of stress. However, I never do that to my kid. (& shes mellowed out a whole bunch & theres more good about her than bad).
According to the mom she isn't traumatized. She said she was never bothered about how her mom treated her.

Some of us Millennials are really going through it with our parents. It seems like some of our parents just copied everything they’ve gone through with their parents and project it on us. I absolutely do not raise my child the same as my parents raised me. I know how it feels to be hurt by your parent and I would never want my child to feel the way I felt growing up.

This case strongly illustrates the importance of LISTENING and having COMPASSION. Both mum and daughter are survivors of a terrible past that continued to haunt them. Thank God they are on the way to true reconciliation... hopefully.
