Hi Santosh, I have watched many of your inspiring videos, including this one. I went through a similar career journey and often look back and think about what I could have done better in the past (there will always be something more optimal that we could have done). I agree about your point about not getting comfortable and plateauing, but it is also important to sometimes look back and appreciate how far we have come from where we started and pat ourselves in the back. This journey in itself can and will be a motivating factor for achieving the next step. Keep up the good work and keep marching forward! Best wishes.
Excellent content. Congratulations on your journey. You have covered a very long distance ...UP ke ek gaon se Boston tak. Very impressive . Mujhe sabkuchh bahot achcha laga. I have a gut feeling rhat your videos have the potential to inspire many underprivileged students. Keep up the good work.Kabhi chhodna nahin. Santosh, you are like my son. He is 36. Maybe you are in the same ( 36-39) age group. Ek feedback dena chahunga. This is not a criticism. This is a window of opportunity for you. A wide window. If you work on this apect, you will do - at least -15 percent better than what you would achieve otherwise in your life. Work on your spoken English ....both delivery and pronunciation. I will send you a message over Email. This thing ( Spoken English) you must improve. Please do not feel bad. I also saw the interview rhat you conducted at Harvard with a lady who has been doing Masters in Education there. Wahan mujhe aap ki spoken English thodi mamooli lagi. Peechchle 10 saalon se aap USA nein ho. Aap ne is cheez pe shayad zyada dhyan nahin diya. Do not underestimate it. It is a very important soft skill. By the way, how is your written communication in English? If you can send me a story over Email (:one page only.....some anecdote/story from your life) , I will be able to tell you where you stand. You shouls be at least 6.5 out of 10 in written communication as well. Kafi gyan de diya. Bura mat maanna. Beta samajh kar aap ko bola hai I am from Bihar. Stay in Mumbai.Achhi Companies mein kaam kiya hai. Retired now. My son is an IITan. My daughter studied at a good university in the UK. But in donon ki schooling Bombay mein hui. Aapki schooling ek village nein hui. Aap ki journey kahin zyada impressive hai. Aap ne bahot zyada paapad bele hain. Hats off to you!
Thank you, sir, for your detailed feedback and your kind words! Honestly, this is one of the best motivational comments for me and taking it very seriously and positively. Me and my wife were discussing same thing about my English. I’ll definitely work on my spoken English. Please do email me at bhartitwins@gmail.com, I would love to hear from you.
Nice to see video after a long time. I stuck very badly not able to come out from postdoc even after completing it four years. Recruiter deny the application in first state when they see the candidate on J1 Visa. No one is ready to sponser H1 Visa. Feeling dark future.
How are you sir? I believe you are well! We are so lucky to have you and thank you so much for sharing your incredible journey and experiences with us!😊
Dear Dr Bharti, I watch your videos regularly. They are truly very informative and helpful for us PhD students. But there is one thing that I don't understand and that is whether it was your plan from the very beginning to get an academic position like assistant professor in the US or did you intend on coming back to India? In the first case, then it is very evident that getting an assistant professor position (tenure track) is very difficult in the US, especially for someone who has not done PhD in the US or Europe. Rather you could have immediately applied for assistant professor positions in India after 3 years of postdoc positions... I think it would be better if you could clarify this point because to us, the viewers, a natural question comes to the mind that why didn't you apply for academic positions in India and extended your postdoc!!!
I have explained in many video but will do one more focus on this. Its little complex- getting assistant professor is USA and India, both are equally tough.. little different parameters.
Thank you sharing for your story, Santosh ji, and moreover representing the story of, I believe, many. I have resonated with what you said at almost every word. Seeing you succeed in your transition inspires and motivates me to continue to strive for my own transition into industry. I'm currently in my 5th year of postdoc, having been trying to transition into industry unsuccessfully, yet continuing to, for few years now. One of the reasons I don't want to consider academia even as a second option, is I don't want to produce another PhD student, at least through me. I am not saying this in a negative mindset, but I truly believe, for most part of PhD population, both PhD and postdoc are wasteful and a trap. There are a majority of workforce who doesn't do PhD have move forward in career in many strides. And pursuing PhD is essentially distracting the intellect of people into less productive and very less rewarding career paths. If you don't mind sharing your opinion, do you share this mindset, and would you recommend someone to pursue PhD, in these current times?
