    Wow. That was short.
My fav boards have edge clear to the nose.
It gives massive amounts of drive. Remember watching guys in the 80’s doing full roundhouse cutbacks from way out on the shoulder? Yep.
Today’s boards are meant for tighter turns.
They tube ride good. Those soft rails help with that.
    Great for nose riding too.
But hard rails way up, like 3/4 the way to the nose for me.
I remember in the late 80’s sanding my edge off of my G&S short board. Turned it into a slug. Killed it completely. Made it into a dog.
    Edge is your friend…
I shaped a bunch of my own boards after that. Found it to be true regardless of how boards changed through the decades.
I’m in my 50’s now and mostly longboard. Don’t shape my own gear much anymore. I surfed a 10’6 glider up in Oregon on a head high day the other day. It has some edge in the tail. Egg rails everywhere else. Same problem, still can’t draw the turns out long enough for me. Bogs out even with multiple fin changes.
If you want speed hard edges will give it to you.
If you look at Aipa stinger boards you’ll find they have a cut in the rail about 1/3 up from the tail. Hard edges from the cut all the way back.
Those work well too for s combo speed and looseness. Similar concept. The hard rails give max drive, and the outline give a pivot point. Works pretty good.
I personally aren’t happy unless I have edge further forward than even that.
I shaped a fun board for a friend in Hawaii one time we called the Milktruck. Hard 80’s rails nose to tail. 7’ something. Wider than a short bard. Thruster.
He and I loved that thing. Always held max speed. Hard rails to the nose.

Many thanks , I bought the daughter a soft top .it just doesn't handle or feel like my epoxy. Now I think I know why.
My board has soft all the way ( 9ft)
My other is soft with last around fins hard.( 7 foot 6)
But the soft top is hard all the way ( 8 foot) I also have suspicion about the fins , seem bit small.
