@@ClassicalTTunesNow i think he meant that it's "ourselves" - the word exists, it was just a little wrong lol
100% lol
The first minute and I already feel called out.
Not just about playing guitar, but also a number of my other hobbies.
Same!
God that hurt
The whole I don't have time to practice this hit home hard, I felt like I was getting personally called out lmao
This is exactly me lol but I’m in my 5th month learning
“I don’t really use my pinky” hit me a little too hard
Music Is Win
I mean, a lot of great guitarists dont either
Nero Vuk 100% true django is a good example
My problem is that I substitute fingers for a lot of stuff.
Like for a D chord, I'll just bar the E B and G and then use my ring finger for the third fret of the B. Of course it makes Free Falling a lot easier for me to play. But then in other songs I'll use my pinky more than my ring finger in place of my ring finger. Then there are songs where I'll use my middle finger in place of my ring finger or even my index. Like if I play Black Magic Woman, I'll use my middle finger on the E string and swap to my index when I hit the 5th fret of the B string (I don't like using the open E on that song since it makes it super weird and bad to play).
See, I consider myself an intermediate guitarist, but according to this, I'm better than that. Sure, I watch a lot of Netflix and I ride my bike a ton, but practicing isn't below me. I'm constantly practicing whenever I'm not eating, sleeping, shopping, watching, or cycling, as long as my fingers aren't bleeding from how much I play. I'm self taught, I don't make excuses, and if I get frustrated I come back to it later with a fresh ear. I've been playing for the last 6 years, and while I'd love to make playing guitar into a career, that's just unrealistic for me with all of the requirements that they burden you with in songwriting. Playing guitar is a hobby of mine. I have the same acoustic guitar that I did when I started 6 years ago, besides the electric that my mother gifted me a few years ago that ended up stolen and was never recovered.
I consider myself an intermediate guitarist, but this video says entirely otherwise.
I shattered the knuckle on the pinky of my left hand a couple years ago, so while it was healing I learned a bunch of chords and stuff that required the pinky as physical therapy.
I've never stopped using it for my playing since. It's just so natural now.
Edit: forgot my rights and lefts somehow
youtube lesson: this solo starts off on the G string on the 9th fret
*counts all the frets up to 9*
Me, an intellectual: Capo on 9th
Paulo Lima me, a true intellectual; cuts off all frets higher than the ninth
You mean removes frets above 9 and capos at 9.

Calcifer Black Ok, I respect you for restraining yourself. I will learn their names.

@@xXxThelegend27xXx That doesn't work well though. Granted, if you're fingerpicking chords or something, there might be a chord shape that you're already familiar with being used. But you can recognise those shapes without knowing the chord name. Anyways, there's tons of reasons to learn the names of chords and many of them are better reasons.

the ES-335 yeah, intermediate is when you’ve been playinh guitar for 14 years and been practicing for 2, so that’s me

Amps and pedals can wait, my spider IV line 6 does just fine for now.
I never got past intermediate because I discovered stoner metal riffs.
enlighten me please
I honestly agree with the theory limiting creativity thing. Whenever I write songs I have ideas of what sound I want and the feel I want, and I do it based on sound alone. Not necessarily chord theory, but scales. If you learn scales you just get stuck in the scales you know, and you don't use them properly. The best thing from my experience is to learn chords, and play around them based on the chord progression. This makes a more compelling solo without getting stuck in a hole, and spending a lot of time trying to figure out what scale you want to play, and you just play what you feel.
i considered my self intermediate until this, now i don’t know where i fall

Hearing someone say "I just play by ear" hurts me deep inside everytime.

One: What's bad about playing by ear if you can do it accurately? ( Although I know it's better to have more than that in your learning skill set)
And two: What the fuck do you have against lasagna?
