Never even thought about a black metal sound in your music but I almost kinda hear it! Sounding great as usual (still listening through currently haha) \m/
Cyrus, my man, I would be much delighted were you to document how these interesting choices of guitars and modifications came about. I'm done with youtubers yapping about swapping one DiMarzio for another. What compelled someone to fearlessly add random strings and built a guitar with the scale length of 1.4 hedgehogs?
Right, on my friend!! I did one small video where I talk about the Esquire 9 String a bit ( th-cam.com/video/nasDfOFQO0c/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared ), but I still need to do one on the Future Lute. It is on my to-do list! The short story is that I used only 5 strings on a standard guitar pretty much from when I started playing. I kept breaking the high e string and I was always less interested in the higher pitches of the instrument and ended up liking how the guitar sounded without it. So when I decided to get a 12 string electric, I took the two high e strings off right away. I also found that I got better bass response with just a single low E string so that is how I got to 9. This 12 string electric I got is the Kawai guitar I play in some of these videos. The neck that was on it at the time had a truss rod that was maxed out, so to get the action lower, I detuned the guitar first to D then to C and finally decided that B Baritone was the most useful since if I imagined the guitar started from the second string up from the bottom it was like playing a standard tuned guitar. I played the Kawai in this format for about 10 years until I decided to try and get something that looked more pro. I asked Fatdog at Subway Guitars in Berkeley, California, usa ( www.fatdawg.com/ ), if he could build me a Telecaster 9 String and he said no problem. I have since "Esquired" it and here we are. It looks more intentional without the three empty holes in the headstock of the Kawai. Although the bridge setup is pretty rugged, it is tastefully covered by the Jazz Bass ashtray pickup cover. As for the Future Lute, I was playing a lot of pieces on the Esquire capo'd at the 12th fret. I was also travelling a lot around 2014 and wanted a better travel guitar option. So I asked my friend luthier Ben Brockway ( brockwaystrings.com/ ) if he could make a neck that was basically frets 12-22 and that's what he did. It's the same tuning as the Esquire but one octave up. I've had a lot of different electronics in it over the years, but as of late I am enjoying just the single hot rails humbucker in the bridge position. Thank you for your interest in my weird sound world, my friend!! Sending you many positive vibes!!
Excellent question, my friend! I start each 1 hour practice session with these three pieces but then the rest of the time is maybe playing pieces in progress or ones I want to remember how to play or just noodling and improvising. Each 1 hour practice session generates 3 ~20 minute videos. Thank you for listening and sending you many positive vibes!!!
🖤This stuff is absolutely brilliant! Super original, unique style, I really love it! 🖤 I enjoyed blending black metal with surf and psychedelic sounds. While it doesn't sound much like black metal, the influence is subtly woven into the other styles. An influence doesn't have to dominate to shape the overall vibe. 😊
I hear you , my friend. I have always thought the genre name "Black Metal" ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_metal ) was not great particularly for this very reason. Apologies for any confusion and sending you many positive vibes!
This is the least black metal I have ever heard, and that's not a bad thing. If anything, this sounds more like progressive rock or avant-garde, y'know what I mean? That being said, this was a great video.
For me, the core of a traditional black metal sound is all about fast tremolo picked dyads. I don't have a full understanding of everything you're doing here, your guitar confuses me in a fun way. However I think the core of your sound here is pretty similar even if you've reached it from a totally different direction. I'd honestly love to hear some of this with the distortion cranked up. Even the lute section sort of catches the vibes of a dungeon synth interlude many black metal bands have.
Right on, my friend! I didn't really hear it either until another listener pointed it out. I very much appreciate the encouragement to lean further into the distortion! Thank you for listening and sending you many positive vibes!!
When did this run first come to you and how has it progressed since its first ever time¿?¿ Also would love to hear a bass gliding with triplets/quadruplets behind/next to you 🐙🫡 only person I’m seeing running with you though is Rob Trujillo 🫠 that would be something else
Rob Trujillo! Now that would be something!!! Definitely not stock!!! I started working on the first song in about 2018. The second song in 2014. The third song maybe somewhere around 2015. All three continue to get tighter and also more fun to play! Thank you for listening, my friend! Sending you many positive vibes!!!
@@cyruspirehit’s always amazing how the finesse gets more finesse 🤙 I’ve got a few little runs I’ve made along the way but haven’t expanded on them yet too much and watching you play makes me keen for my instrument of choice to return from the fixer upper shop 😂 always been my fav thing to do just grab the bass or guitar and disassociate from everything.
How are they?!? XD XD .... Available for pre-order now! Thank You, Guitar Pedal: 4gre.org/pedal
