having learned about the existence of this book, I am more baffled than ever that this woman chose to fight the child grooming allegations against her via ukulele
Tbh, after hearing about this book I’m even less baffled that she thought the ukulele video was a good idea. Anyone who thought this book was a good idea is clearly not very good at having good ideas
Right? I was like.. but Rachel, this is like... beyond just a bad book, it's damning... and she just nodded and carried on dragging it for filth like... wot.. now here's Alizee
As a survivor of sexual abuse in my childhood her take on her uncle and the jokey tone would have fucked with my mental health. To see it presented as a joke? This woman is bonkers.
I'm sorry that happened to you :( Also a survivor I've listened to some commentary on her history and honestly, I think she's trying to normalize child abuse Especially since there's quite a few allegations on her brother
I’m sorry you went through that. Exactly, a certain percentage of kids experience sexual trauma/abuse and her using it as a punch line to a bad joke has probably done a lot of harm.
@@shrub8644her brother is apparently a big pedo and the whole family tries to hide it. They are very religious and in those kinds of circles sexual abuse can run rampant because they will protect abusers to hide it, and the abuse of children can turn some into future abusers. Still, Colleen has no excuse for this behavior. She’s a monster.
Child of two survivors, one at the hand of an uncle. Not funny. That trauma effects more than just the survivor. I learned mistrust at a young age. Some things you just leave alone.
I'm autistic and I saw someone say 'she really made a whole career from taking the piss out of autistic people' and ngl I kinda agree lol, apparently she based part of the character on a disabled relative so that's not a great look
When I first saw her content I got the ick cause it really seemed like she was making fun of disabled people like a high school mean girl. I’m happy that the internet is finally holding her accountable for her terrible behavior.
I don’t know if she’s ever publicly said it but Miranda Sings is just Coleen pretending to a be a grown woman with autism. Why that was ever seen as something that was funny to anyone is beyond me.
@@jvjustvibes9103I think publicly she’s said the videos were making fun of girls at her school who thought they were good singers but weren’t as good as they claimed to be.
@@joelle4226 Yeah, publicly. But told her friends that she based it off a disabled family member, and she would watch their "tantrums" (possibly autistic meltdowns) and "take notes."
@@jvjustvibes9103 Yeah exactly, I understand kids laughing at it though because when I was a kid I got bullied and laughed at for my autistic behaviour so that unfortunately would make sense at least based on my experiences at school
All the uncle jokes really irk me. Imagine a kid who is or was sexually abused by an uncle or anyone else reading this and being the butt of the joke. That's horrible.
I would have 1000% used it to keep justifying my abuse as normal. Seeing it so casually brought into everything makes it seem like everyone is abused. I'm so glad I never saw this book
the irony of her making “creepy nonce uncle” jokes in her book and then saying in the apology vid “i used to message my fans, but not in a creepy way. more like when you go to family gatherings and there’s a weird aunt there”
It's also not just the book. Like her old videos have so so many references to the uncle, how he tickles her and that she likes it. This comes up time after time for years.. it's absolutely insane. In the netflix show we see the uncle but the jokes are less direct, but you can clearly see the links. It's baffling.
@@rhifgrty i don' think i really watched her videos myself but i had a friend who liked her a lot so i've apparently saw enough with her that this book brought of random repressed memories of her talking about the uncle stuff, and the way she used words like p*rn and slut. at the time i didn't fully understand what she was saying and its just really shocking to me now to think of my child self being exposed to that :( i'd say this was about 11 years ago
@@avacxglad i’ve never heard of her as a child. to be fair i’m still a minor tho so i guess i still am one, but at least old enough to understand how fked up this is
Today I learned what “nonce” ACTUALLY means in British slang. This entire time I thought it was a synonym for “idiot.”That makes all the times she called onision a nonce even more hilarious.
I think it's not being talked enough that the "uncle" bits may genuinely make children believe what is happening to them at home is okay if they are experiencing SA. That breaks my heart to think about
This thought crossed my mind multiple times (I only learned about this woman today through a Rachel Oates video so I'm experiencing one of those "I lived under a rock just enough to not have heard about this") today, and I had the same feeling. A different thought also went through my mind and it is the thing I typically try to make people realize when I see someone trying to push the "transpeople equals groomers": The hyperfocus of some people on transpeople being the only people capable of grooming children risks people missing the actual red flags of someone showing predatory behavior, and the amount of people seemingly not seeing the problem with this book and literally buying it and NOT screening it (or, some parents that supposedly did still not seeing the problem). And that's next to ignoring that there is at least 1-2 people involved in going up for publicizing something like this and who somehow didn't pull the emergency brake ...
this happened to me. not through colleen's book, but through the other 'jokes' about this kind of thing in her other content. it reaffirmed in my head that there was nothing wrong with what was being done to me because oh! this funny youtube lady that i look up to isn't upset about it! i think i could have learned better and tried to get away earlier if not for this kind of thing in both colleen's content and other media i was consuming as a kid. it's really, really unfortunate (sorry if i'm not making a ton of sense this is a topic that upsets me and my thought process is a little scrambled)
@@panopticonseye You made a ton of sense. This is unfortunately exactly what I tried to say when I made my initial remark. These video's risk children downplaying what happened to them because well "that person I am a fan of makes funny jokes about it so apparently it's normal!" and as a result, might not make people realize in time what is happening to them, or happened to them, and causes a long time in their life to be spent on disconnecting from that experience and the way you perceived it. I was sent to a company as an 18 year old once where the women who worked there (and I want to state that it was only women) crossed quite some boundaries and it ended up in sexual assault (and that was at a law firm, imagine that...). Due to being depressed at the time, I was in cognitive behavioral therapy and got an "exercise" that stated how men had 1 "social ladder" for all the people they had any kind of relationship with, whether it involved sleeping with those people or not, and how women had 2, and that one was for just friendships and another was for friendships that involved sleeping with those people. The "exercise" stated that men are the hunters and that women will never take the initiative for sex...imagine being an 18 year old being fed something as outdated and stupid as that, but well, it came from a therapist so must have been true right? And then imagine getting into a situation in which increasingly, that statement was proven to be wrong and as a result, I had no clue how to respond... One of the women there even made the remark "that we are just as bad as men in this kind of situations, maybe even worse, but the difference is that we can't talk about it like men do, but especially: that we get away with it." That was something I just kept on thinking about seeing how Colleen was not being slammed down hard in the way a man would've probably been after exhibiting the same behavior... (For clarity by the way: at the time of the sexual assault, I was not yet out as a transwoman, I didn't even know I was transgender at the time, so I was still living as a boy).
exactly. She literally has a “porn” bit during her live shows that encourages children to show skin when wearing an outfit so they get picked to essentially be slut-shamed (for lack of a better term) on stage. If this isn’t grooming than I don’t know what is. The only content I’ve ever even seen of her is all sexual jokes and when these types of jokes are made towards children it teaches them that this behavior is acceptable. I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the adults in her fandom/fanbase were taking advantage of this.
One of her fans wrote to ask her how to use a tampon. Colleen did a video & put the unwrapped tampon in her mouth as "instructions." Then she had a whole group of young people putting tampons in their mouths with her.
It’s actually terrifying how a book this inappropriate was able to be published and marketed towards children. I’ve heard it was bad but I didn’t know it was THIS bad. Some publisher really went through this “children’s” book with mentions of gential warts, porn, and sluts (and many more) and thought, “Yeah this seems like a good children’s book”. That is genuinely horrifying.
@@anastasia.beaverhousenyes parents should make sure their children are consuming appropriate content. But marketing this content TO CHILDREN. Knowing that children will most definitely read it. Is absolutely sick. It’s disgusting. It’s not rated for teens. It’s rated for children.
@@anastasia.beaverhousen why overlook that an ADULT is making fun of child victims of incest and place the blame on parents for her making fun of child victims..you wrote that and you said it, look at you, wow.
I'm not British but I totally feel you, Alizee. I 100% agree there's an astronomical difference between poking fun AT pedophiles & poking fun at their victims. So many people miss the mark & think dark humor is making fun of the victim when it really shouldn't be.
I'm here for British style black humour all day every day, but this is nasty. The "joke" really is just "This girl doesn't realize her uncle is assaulting her. Haha, she's so dumb, isn't that funny?" It's not black humour meant to call out a real social problem, it's the kind of humour bullies use to shame kids who are sheltered or a bit different.
@@stellaanderson7246 Absolutely. All the time a person gets called out for being vile, they just call it dark humor. What's the joke? Other than "lol child abuse/(insert other awful thing here)"??

The first step to recovery is admitting that somethink is very wrong, right?
@@stellaanderson7246people don’t get that dark humor has a line to draw and sexual/child assault/abuse isn’t dark humor and it’s not cool to joke about
Colleen is weirdly hyper-sexualized. Everything for her is sexual and she doesn't have any sense as to the audience for that sort of humor! She is unreal. I can't say I'm feeling bad for her and her whole backlash right now!
and there was that video years ago she did with Shane where they had dick shaped food and sge dressed as Miranda, voicing her 'dislike' against the foods
It's horrendous how many of her old videos reference an 'uncle jim' and how he 'tickles' her, and she portrays it as something she enjoys. Absolutely harrowing.
I'm worried about this. Many of the times those who are hypersexual have gone through childhood a lot of abuse...... There is a tarot reader on youtube who gave hints of her childhood (allegedly)
My favorite thing is that Colleen wants to claim everything as "toxic rumors" when this book, the screenshots, and the videos... straight up exist.. as proof.. exactly *what* does she think a rumor is??
Exactly, a rumor is something that may or may not be true and there's usually no precise evidence. All the shit being said against her has COLD HARD EVIDENCE
Well, she said “I’m like your weird aunt” when “weird” family member is another way of saying abuser and that she’s a “loser not a predator” as if she isn’t both. Although just about everything she says and does is repugnant, her switching words and meanings around to suite her argument is on brand.
Also Mae, if you remember the ridiculous dancing apology video by sienna mae. our ukulele apology belongs to colleen mae ballinger😂 the worst kind of nomen est omen
I won't say this author's last name, but her name is Colleen too, and she writes a book similar to Twilight with just turned 18yo girl who likes 300+ y/o men, and it has a lot of racism, offensive comments on a different culture on her own that's meant for laughs, consent concerns, and fifty shades of grey where the men flaunt their wealth and financially take over everything she has. But yeah, the original comment made me think of this. (also includes furry aspects). To me, this book is problematic, but no one seems to notice how actually offensive and overall dumb the book is.
yes omfg, not only is it trigerring etc, but it can lead a kid to thinking csa is NORMAL and letting it happen / not talking about it!! this woman should never get a platform!!
I experienced non-contact stuff as a child and honestly, I never thought twice when I saw CB's content as it was so "normal" for me to be interacted with in that way. I'm not saying that she's responsible for what happened to me, but her content definitely reinforced what I'd been going through.
I didn't completely believe the Miranda character was inspired by a caricature of a disabled person until now. The way she writes, not just the spelling but the scribbles, the nonsense. Miranda Sings is meant to be at the very least a late teenager, right? The writing style isn't just "oh Miranda's super uneducated", it feels like mockery of people who might have certain learning disabilities.
@@Saga_Anserum I heard that. I was just so reluctant to believe it because who in the world would willingly admit something so gross? But people do crazy, awful things all the time. I really don't know why I was so shocked. But I definitely believe it now.
@@ms.blooddiamond3857 I'm not sure she even comprehends that what she does is wrong. It all just feels like the story of someone really removed from reality.
A lot of her "quirks" feel like they are based on stereotypical behaviours associated with ADHD/autism spectrum disorders. A demographic that already is heavily misunderstood, amplified by bad media representation. Not to mention the fact that in reality, nine out of ten autistic women have been victims of sexual abuse, because the condition makes it very difficult to recognise inappropriate behaviour early on and act accordingly. So, that's not great.
I love when you and Rachel Oates give insights on the same media; especially when I watch Rachel first and her aura of disappointment towards a bad book while trying to make it better, and then get to watch you take the same content and tear it a new asshole with barely repressed rage.
When the "uncle" jokes flies over a kid's head they might register this kind of behavior from a family member as fine and normal, which needless to say is extremely dangerous
This is incredibly uncomfortable. As a mom, this is NOT ok for younger kids. It's just completely mental how this was approved for marketing at younger kids. It infuriates me at how many parents didn't screen the book before handing it off to their small children.
I would hope that Alizee was cherry picking the reviews to prove a point and that wasn't the trend, but even if that is the case even the positive reviews that were shown was far too many. I remember growing up that my parents would make an effort to read whatever my siblings and I read as a way to bond with us; seeing parents just... pass off a book because it has colorful illustrations was kind of crazy. (Thought you deserved a response that wasn't just spam for your more than valid point.)
@ville__ thanks appreciate that. Honestly reading and watching what your kid consumes is such a good practice. It's bonding like you said and you can also see if its appropriate or not. It's easy to see when something is super tongue in cheek (any early 2000s cartoon) versus this actual inappropriate book with the words slut and porn written in it.
@lexa2310 generations before didn't have what we have today. And if WE as parents don't make the effort to see and read what our kids see and read then it only gives people like colleen the ability to say "WeLl I CaNT ConTrOl WUt KiDS Do thAtS Up 2 PaREntS". The internet is so not what it used to be. And it's evident that just because something is marketed to kids doesn't mean you should be so trusting. Being a parent in the modern age is hard. But doesn't mean you can't try.
I had no idea she was so inappropriate. It's crazy to me to see parents who read that book call it "silly". Having learned all this I can't believe she had a career in children's media to begin with.
@@cannedsaladsoup430 I have since become aware of her brother's interactions with her fans, literally texting 14 year old girls "My family said I'm not allowed to talk to anyone under 18 but I just want to spread positivity" and proceeding to tell her she'd "look good pregnant" and the sharing of pornography by her and her adult friends with children until the guise of "omg she's so gross" or "this is so funny" so my mind is just reeling at this point. I went from "this is extremely inappropriate how could anyone allow their kids to see this adult humor" to "holy shtt they were legitimately fkking grooming children". I feel like I could find out anything at this point and I just keep thinking about how she pointed out she's been doing this for 15 years and what the magnitude of her and her family's impact has been on so many kids has to be is... Scary. This is far more serious than inappropriate jokes. I had no idea.
the saddest part to me was seeing that most of the positive comments colleen has received since Adam made all those videos were from full grown women. and many of them with children themselves. it's just sad to see so many parents not care about predators on the internet... and it feels like it's just getting worse, especially with those insta accounts moms make centered around exploiting the bodies of their prepubescent daughters.
I had a woman with kids in her profile picture tell me on Twitter that Adam should shoulder the blame for being a male and that giving him some imbalanced power over Colleen. Poor Colleen, the 30+ yr old being groomed by that 14 yr old lad...
Colleen isn’t the only sexually inappropriate mom out there. Remember she has kids of her own… many children are forced to be raised in unsafe environments. This is why we need to normalize not having kids, and hold parents to stricter standards. The more I see if the world, the more I wish more people were infertile.
as a child i read this book and most of the stuff i didn’t understand :| i didn’t know what p0rn was, i knew very few swear words, and i was neurodivergent. i clearly remember asking my mom “whats p0rn” and her being absolutely mortified that this was in a fucking MIRANDA SINGS book. but despite not really understanding many jokes, i still found it HILARIOUS because of a few reasons: 1- if something was supposed to be funny, i usually found it funny (i watched friends solely for the reason that it had laugh tracks which would help me understand when to laugh, no im not joking) 2- poop jokes and spelling mistakes were my EXACT sense of humor, so it didn’t really bother me that i didn’t really understand most the jokes because it had poop jokes, and poop is funny looking back on it now im actually in shock. i dont know how no one realized that maybe this woman isn’t the person you want your children around before because this shit is CRAZY-
I watched Friends for the first time in my life I think 10 years after it stopped airing, maybe a bit sooner, not sure. It used to be on TV during dinner time and I didn't feel like taping it each day, so yea, didn't see it when it was actually on TV. The thing that has stuck with me though is how much children in primary school talked about that show, and I am 100% sure that at the same age most of the jokes would've flown over my head, not only due to also being autistic, but also because of the many layered, and quite the number of times adult jokes in it, that make me confused as to how children at that time were able to follow the show so closely as they did.
as a fellow autist, 1 is so endearing and relatable. as a human being with like compassion and shit, everything OTHER than that is horrifying sheesh D:
i would also just laugh at things if they were supposed to be funny, i don't think i could process half the words i heard watching tv, so i would just pick up on the vibe or que that i was supposed to laugh. like in anime when they fall to the ground when a character says a dad joke or smth it was funny rewatching childhood shows as a teen and actually fully understanding what's going on
As a mom of two, I am truly infuriated that another mother willingly contributes to normalising sexual abuse in the family, and that directly to kids. What a horrible person, and shame on the publishers as well. And who tf buys and reviews this and finds this fit for their own child?? What is even going on
I would really like to see someone talk about the rampant cultural sexualization of children and how it leads to books like this being published. So many creepy baby onesies with sexual saying like "womanizer" (for the tamest of examples). I am curious how much of behavior like Colleen's skates by because of this treatment of children. Hell, that normalization may in fact be where a majority of Colleen's behavior came from-she was taught this was normal, and then took it to a new level because shes "extra"...or felt she had to in order to get the engagement she wanted online. I just think its a contributing factor thatcshould really be more widely discussed. I think this is a constant issue we are seeing because its not about the individuals...the behavior is culturally normalized and encouraged.
as a teen, I don't see how the format of this book could be appealing to anyone my age. I mean, which teenager would want to read a book that looks like it was made by an 8 year old? it's really weird how the jokes and whole premise of the book appears to be implicitly sexual or just meant for someone older yet the whole presentation is so juvenile, gives me major ick.
My high school agenda from a Dutch music channel (this is in the year 2000 or 2001) was like, tame, compared to this. Even when the subject of sex came up (and in The Netherlands secondary education starts at 12 years of age, we don't know the distinction between high school like the US or I think also Canada knows) it was more in an informational manner: listing contraceptives or listing some of the terms and explaining them, and in some cases even providing phone numbers in case you were in a dangerous situation, whether due violence at home or sexual abuse. The language used was meant to take the people reading it seriously without becoming explicitly risque and flirting with dangerous suggestions, even if the reading public was still very much giggly about the subject in most conversations about it.
As someone who used to be a huge fan of Colleen, this whole situation is really surreal to me but I also think I sort of saw it coming. I used to watch her videos all the time and lots of them made me super uncomfortable (especially as an autistic person) but I just tried to laugh along because I thought I was dumb or just didn't get it.
I am also autistic and we tend to do this. We think we’re the ones in the wrong and laugh anyway because we assume people can’t be this bad, right? And yet…
My oldest had a better sense of humor than this when he was FOUR--and he thought anything and everything involving the word "chair" was absolutely hilarious for whatever reason, lol.
I saw this regarding Shane Dawson and Onision, but I absolutely believe it applies here. Colleen, Shane, and Gorg's content is grooming content in that it normalizes sexualizing minors/sexual topics towards minors. I, as someone who watched 2/3, was so aware of grooming. I watched chris hansen as a kid, my mom told me about creeps, but because this content normalized adults interacting in a sexual way towards minors in my head. I was groomed with no irl sexual contact, but it still left me with healing to do. I can’t even begin to fathom how many kids went through the same because of these grooming child rapists.
When I was a kid, my librarian mom had a standing rule that I could read whatever I wanted, though sometimes we'd have to have a conversation about it. I believe that is what helped me become the person that I am, and if I was unfortunate enough to find myself with a kid, it's what I would want to emulate. The attack on librarians and books in the US right now is a "sign of the times," in my opinion. But this book right here? This book is the first book I wholeheartedly believe should be outright banned. I'd even go so far as to say that I finally agree with the label of "groomer" for this insane woman who should be put on a registry and not allowed near kids ever again.
Oh geez I had this book as a kid. Shane Dawson’s, too. I also used to religiously watch Onision. I keep remembering that and shuddering about my childhood role models. 🤢
So glad my TH-cam "role models"(?) were the likes of Ryan higa, kevjumba, Michelle Phan, and wongfu productions. Learning all this now with the rest of y'all is like watching a car on fire on the orher side of the highway 😬
I got this book when I was like eight as a gift. And I definitely didn’t understand any of the innuendos. I knew it was a joke book like it was supposed to be funny, but I had no idea that the real purpose was just to be sexual but in a way that kids may not understand? I can’t help but feel disgusted and remotely violated honestly. Stuff like this isn’t funny to me. Stuff that involves children being naïve and not understanding the joke. It’s sickening.
The only thing I can say to Colleen Ballinger coherently after reading this book second hand through this video is: THIS WAS A CHOICE. Alizee, you should cover a book that you like, as a treat. You can only suffer for content for so long.
As a CSA survivor those uncle "jokes" would have sent me way back in my recovery .For one, I'd already sort of normalized it in my head, and seeing another child who seemingly experiences that so nonchalantly would have kept me from speaking out about it for years because "Miranda has that too, it's nothing bad".
Colleen grew up in a super religious Christian homeschool environment & her entire family is quite creepy. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out she had at least one "funny uncle" that molested them when they were young. Just too many red flags waving around in her "comedy."
Ok let's stop blaming "religion" or homeschooling for this trainwreck. There are COUNTLESS people who are person's of faith or who were homeschooled (or online/remote learning) or both who aren't 'traumatized' by either of those things, and aren't in anyway at all behaving this way. Has literally nothing to do with it. You can only blame your upbringing for so long, at some point you have to be an adult and belly up to the table. Could she have been abvsed? Probably, but even that is NOT AN EXCUSE, because again, there are COUNTLESS abvse survivors who do not act like this. This is a Colleen problem, and a Colleen problem only.
@@Be_An_Estheryeahhh :( i was homeschooled my whole life, and nearly everyone in my community was very religious. this bs would not be tolerated. colleen’s humor and behavior isn’t the norm.
i think it depends on the family’s devotion to their religion because i know a lot of people who were homeschooled and religious and they were exactly the type of people miranda makes fun of. sure there are some kids who went through that system and ended up fine but in my experience you could easily tell who was homeschooled because they were extremely conservative to a point of being annoying.
@@Be_An_Estherok but let’s not act like religion, especially religious people that home school their kids, don’t put children in danger. There are literally countless scandals of religious leaders sexually abusing people, it’s not the cause but it is the structure that allows for it
I think the huge stats still coming out about religious s3xual abuse would beg to differ. Often the church and it’s isolationism, including home school, can be and is part of the problem.
As someone who found out what sex was at a young age due to a friend of mine finding one of her mom's medical books(she was a nurse) and telling me what she read, I find this book to be absolutely disgusting. It's crazy that she got away with this for so long.
My mom had this amazing book I wish I could remember but it was all about sex in a very sterile, medical way. It started with puberty and basic consent I think we started reading it around 8 (when I started developing boobs and hair in new places) and then it goes into deeper consent and sexual relations in the middle part (for teens and young adults) and by the end of the book it ends with how to keep your sex life healthy and happy into your older years. It was an amazing book. The beginning part was all about naming body parts and colouring them in. I'm so glad my mom taught me so young about how my body works and why.
I’m pretty sure my mom told me what sex was when I was like 5 but it was in such a clinical way that I actually didn’t realize it was what everyone was talking about in songs and movies and such! But my mom would NEVER have let me read something like this as a kid, there’s a huge difference between learning the mechanics to how babies are made and actual grooming.
@divine555 I'm sorry what? It's not dangerous for children to learn the proper names and mechanics of their bodies. It literally keeps them safe and informed !!
Colleen Ballinger feels like real life version of a Colleen Hoover heroine (also they're both named Colleen and we've never seen them in the same room together so you never know...)
@@Mels0103 I was gonna say the same she was in the era of Shane Dawson, Tyler okley, dan and Phil and basically anyone that had more than 1 million subs writing a "New York times best seller"
dude, my jaw is on the floor hearing these pdf file jokes in a children's book. holy sht. i'm not someone who is easily shocked or offended but uhhhh...definitely shocking and disturbing
There's a way to throw in dirty jokes. Back when families would watch TV together with their kids, the dirty jokes were subtle enough for the kids to miss the punchline, they were one-liners so kids wouldn't remember them, and the kids themselves were never the butt of the joke or encouraged to do anything sexual. In animaniacs, the characters would make jokes to each other that were raunchy that never involved the audience and an adult was there to supervise things. Colleen's "jokes" encourage children to engage in adult behavior and since it's TH-cam, adults are not present for most of this. Young teens probably went to her shows unsupervised as well. It's even worse in written form because there's no way it would go completely unnoticed
Also youre correct. "parents should be watching" refers to either the internet (you cant control if your child sees adult content 100% without monitoring) or if youre allowing media above your kids age. I would never think to intensely study my kids book if it was marketed to THEM. My parents never needed to screen my books.
I used to watch her Miranda sings character when she collabed with Lilly Singh and Liza koshy (when they were at their peak 2014-15) and I was a cringe teenager. Hadn’t watched them in years so it was so wild to hear about these allegations against her…
TBH this book gives me incredibly "I was molested as a child" vibes and it makes me sad. She thinks this is normal and funny and doesn't realize that it's screaming her trauma to the world. Just a theory but...yeah.
I agree. She grew up in a super religious Christian homeschool environment & if you read the news at all, these are the biggest red flags for gross & inappropriate behavior with minors.
@@wearelegion1163 That really is the other piece of the puzzle. The whole "tampons are for whores" purity culture vibe is also just....so strange. And to be pushed onto children under the guise of comedy, I just... Like no, it's not her job to police what children see. But if she's putting out a children's book, it IS her responsibility to consider on the most basic level if it's going to be harmful to them. Yeugh.
It would be sad to see another victim become a predator due to never learning the truth. It requires a lot of strength to face the own victimhood of the past, stigma.
The worst part about this is that people like myself and others who WERE SA as children, will also see this and internalize that it's normal or their fault. When I was SA I was told it was my fault by most of society, even though I didn't even understand what happened to me fully. Reading stuff like being called a sl*t would have absolutely harmed me. Statistically some of the children who read her book have already been SA and I can't even imagine how much it harmed them.
Let me put this into perspective when it comes to fandoms and what's really horribly wrong with Colleen's. I've been a BTS fan for the longest time. They recently wrote their own book detailing their stories and journey thus far. This means that BTS is requiring their fans to have a higher level of intelligence & maturity. Now of course, not all fans are going to behave well, but at the very least, the band themselves are not feeding into any negative behavior. In fact the members have spoken out against fans when they are inappropriate or cross boundaries. They don't interact with fans in private chats either. They have constantly told fans there is a distance we must respect for their safety and ours. When I found out about Colleen's situation I was shocked. Yes it's different because she's a youtuber, but she was in her 30s the entire time. Her Miranda Sings character appeals to a mindset that hasn't matured & the only way you find any of her content funny is if you can place yourself into a younger perspective (a child's view). It bothers me that she chose to address the situation with a ukulele because it comes across as a disgusting lullaby from the adult to the children they harmed. It's twisted.
I would say this book is originally targeted towards 10-12 year olds. My friends sister was around that age who would get these jokes and knew who Miranda Sings was with the Netflix series. It's at the age to get the inappropriate humor and would find it funny. The whole book screams pre-teen (it should not be at all) with the satire, childish setup and inappropriate humor.
If a 12 year old wrote this book, okay, maybe I could ignore it. Akid that's maybe coping with some trauma through comedy. An adult woman should target sexual humour to adult only, not children. Nick Kroll did a a show about young teens but is not the target audience, is for old teens and adults.
They do put adult jokes in cartoons, and some of them can be a bit shocking, but they are usually cheeky little inclusions for the parents in the audience to laugh at, while it sails over the kids heads. When they are done really well, the joke will be layered so the kids and adults can laugh at it at the same time about different aspects of it. Only there's no parents hanging around while it's on the tv because it's a book, it's written in a similar style as something for children, but it's just those jokes, with no subtlety.
You're about to have a field day with the stuff Trisha Paytas has just revealed about her. Also, you're spot on about the calling mates a nonce thing. I recently had to explain it to an American who flipped out seeing me and a friend call each other it.
@@lindala2602yeah because that word is used as a slur here and only a slur against women. I'm just saying that so maybe people who use c*** as a friendly jab will see this and be less surprised when an American, in the USA, has a negative reaction to that.
It’s pretty clear to me that Colleen has some kind of seggsual issues of her own, and weirdly she feels the need to communicate them via children. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that something happened to her as a child, but that doesn’t excuse it because that’s how most predators are formed.
@@kennashey Absolutely, and I apologize if that’s what it sounds like I said. What I meant to convey was that many people who go on to commit SA were abused themselves earlier in life. However, the large majority of people who were abused do *not* go on to repeat those actions on others.
@@400_billion_sunsthis isn’t true either. Give this book a read: “Why does he do that.” The author works with abusive men and sees their patterns. Claiming to have been abused as a child is unfortunately one of the lies that predators tell to get sympathy and foist the blame of their actions off onto someone else. Approximately the same percentage of abusers faced child abuse as in the general population. Abusers abuse because they are bad people, entitled, lack empathy, and think they are superior to others.
@@maddieb.4282 Fair enough. I'm an engineer, not a psychologist :) I appreciate the info. My larger point was that there is something weird going on with Colleen and it's leaking out through her "creative" output.
This book upsets me and makes me SO GLAD I've got no desire to have children. The world is disgusting and she is a predator. I agree jokes like these are fine (if not always funny) for adults, but she knew who this book was for. Just nauseating. Edit after hearing more near the end of this video for clarity - I say predator because of seeing her literally put children's hands down her pants during live shows and asking them to describe their sex lives to her and sending them her underwear. That's not something someone who's just got bad taste in dark humor to an inappropriate audience does.
Don't forget the whole asking a girl to come on stage just so Colleen could spread the girl's legs and stare between them for a "fart joke". There are so many ways to make an appropriate fart joke, and how on Earth anyone could think that's one of them is beyond me.
I watched her a lot as a kid, I had no idea about what was in her book.. This feels illegal, did no one tell her not to do this? (The book specifically) Someone had to read *and* approve this.
I watched her Netflix show when it came out and she has a creepy uncle in that show. They at first try and play it off as a stupid oblivious uncle character kinda like the uncle in Napoleon Dynamite but it quickly devolves into him acting sexual, forward and inappropriate with both Miranda and her mom. Its been a quite a few years since I watched it but I clearly remembered feeling uncomfortable and a little creeped out watching those parts. I was an adult when I watched it too that show was not appropriate for kids at all. Starting to wonder if she had a weird uncle as a child now hearing whats in this book or does she just think sexual abuse, child abuse and grooming is funny.
The kids in the pics are probably her niece and nephews who she exploits the hell out of for her videos, then their parents have a family channel making them even more exploited. I really feel for them, they're constantly used for content and imagine growing up to see pics of yourself in your aunt's book where you are picking stuff out of her foot. She can say "my content isn't for kids" all she wants but she knows who her audience is, she knows who comes to her shows and meet and greets. Her videos are geared toward kids.
Omg. Rachel went easy on her in retrospect. Gentle soul, brave heart. Alizee doesn't pull a punch though does she lmao this is absolutely unhinged, it's perfect
Also, there really is such thing as a daddy saddle… which is a literal horse saddle for dads so their kids can morph them into a my little pony. In this case, it’s definitely not that. Also love your hair! It’s so healthy ❤
The uncle jokes just really hit different after the messages between Colleen's brother and minors came out. Like, her brother IS that creepy uncle and one of his messages imply that some family members knew he spoke to children.
Having experienced SA as a child, I felt like I couldn’t talk to an adult about because I wouldn’t be believed or people just wouldn’t want to hear it (a lot of things were swept under the rug in my family). Reading a book written by an adult normalising and making jokes about sexual abuse would have confirmed in my 8 year old mind that it’s normal, and adults in general don’t see anything wrong with it and won’t intervene. Also the book teaches children even younger than what is standard at the monent, to slut shame. The book in general is very confusing to me. Part of me feels like she wrote this as a parody children’s book; a pretend kids book that is actually aimed at adults. That’s the way it comes across to me from the way it’s written. But surely she would know that children watch her content and would want to read her book etc? And the book also comes across sometimes as too childlike to even work as a parody of a kids book? It’s so confusing.
As one of those abused children can I just say, in general, in all forms of content, when CSA is joked about and made light of there is a feeling that the joke is made with everyone else in mind but you, not just at your expense but it’s asthough people can’t even imagine you being a real person, being someone with interests, who could be a fan of their work because victims are just some vague entity over there, not a human that you are directly addressing when they engage with your work. As an adult, I know going into dark comedy that it’s likely to come up and sometimes I feel less alone because I handle things by making dark jokes at my own expense BUT I can’t imagine anything more isolating than reading this as a child, the joke not going over my head because I was forced to bare contact only for adult women and know exact,y what they are referencing and realising it’s nothing but a joke to an adult and content creator that in this scenario I loved enough to beg my mum to buy the book of. I can’t imagine the children who formed their friendships around that fanbase ever felt safe enough to confide or received any sane responses if they did. I’d honestly rather tell ricegum “but did it feel good though” than Colleen “what’s your favourite position” Ballinger. I don’t know if any of that translates, my emotions surrounding the topic aren’t in the place I’d like them to be and burnout is making me all the more sensitive. All I can say is, jokes like that are very isolating to the vulnerable children she is poking fun at.
The uncle stuff reminds me of a thing from The League of Gentlemen book where they had a kid's drawing of their dad sneaking into their bedroom at night in an owl mask and saying that they have "lots of secrets" with Wise Owl. That was definitely a book for adults, it was based on a weird, dark and creepy show, and it was STILL a dark and creepy reference even in that context. Why a publisher green lit all those "uncle jokes" in a comedy book aimed at children is just baffling.
Rachel reviewing Layla when...no but seriously I love the crossover between your content lately. I'd love to see y'all buddy read a book (or two, one for each channel) and share your thoughts on stuff. (And again, Alizee blessing us with SO MUCH CONTENT WOOOOOO)
This whole thing has the vibe that the joke isn't *with* her child audience, the joke is *on* her child audience and them not understanding the sexual parts and possibly getting into weird situations repeating them
this entire book just has me like😐😑😐 every page. i was expecting it to be subtle or something, but it’s all just so bad🧍♀️i cant believe parents read this to check if it was okay for their 11 year olds and still thought it was appropriate.
I didn’t realise just how young her target demographic was meant to be until Rachel Oates played one of her clips, tbh, at which point I was horrified. Because nobody over the age of maybe 10 is going to be anything but deeply irritated by that bullshit, and yet nobody under the age of 10 should be exposed to explicit “my uncle -- me” jokes. A good rule of thumb I was told regarding media/publishing etc is that kids generally want to read/view ‘up’, they want to believe or act more mature than they are, so with things like publishing a YA novel you’ve got to take into account that while the YA demo is something like 16-20, you’re likely going to get a lot of readers from what’s technically the top end of the middle grade demo as well. With that in mind, the thought of who this piece of shit was written for gets even more confusing. It’s too stupid and childish for the people who’ll get the “”jokes””, and the people who might enjoy the style won’t understand the references (hopefully, and now I’m thinking of the poor kids who might be dealing with familial abuse, only to get their hands on this fucking thing and see it treated as the funyist jok evarr!!1!1 what an awful woman) Oh, and I think you worded the whole nonce dilemma far better than I could have, and you’re spot-on. Calling my sister a nonce for wearing socks and sandals, or calling my mate’s new Transit a noncemobile is a laugh, but I’ve heard one or two people make jokes about Jimmy Saville’s or Epstein’s victims, and it just makes me deeply uncomfortable, and I think that’s probably why.
I seriously wonder what happened to this woman in her youth. No one just has this ‘sense of humor’ or level of narcissism without trauma. Not defending her behavior but truly… is she okay?
i wasn't in a rush to look more adult or anything, but i was definitely also watching more adult stuff around 13/14. adult swim shows, a lot more MTV, and definitely more adult comedy too. even if i watched her stuff at that time (I didn't) i don't think I'd like this book lol
As a 14/15 year old I started watching more adult stuff when I was like 12 anyways I watched her when I was 9 ish and I feel like I'd like it then cause back then loud=funny but i wouldn't understand it but definitely not now
My friend had this book and she let me borrow it for the day. I went to an after school thing and the women who ran it took the book and read through it, eventually it was confiscated...as expected but it was so embarrassing and when I got home and read it I felt physically ill and hated it. Weird book to be aimed at kids lol
YESS i was eagerly waiting for you to review her books !! //someone on another video pointed out that colleen is turning out to be very similar to the onion man and i honestly dont know how i feel about it
She's raging. She has her drones out and it's actually sad. They really have no idea she's using them just like she uses everyone. She has talked smack on both her husbands, her fans, her friends and then she sang a song about it. No one _except_ a child would believe her.
17:56 same, I was around seven years old watching my older sister and mom play Bayonetta, I thought the dance at the end was cool and wanted to learn it, but I got hurt in the process so I gave up, lol
As a fellow English person, the laugh instead of cry thing is bang on. But yes, we make fun of the perpetrator, NOT the child. All Colleen’s humour seems to be punching down. And highly sexualised. Yeah, she seems well adjusted. (We also like sarcasm).
I'm from the UK and it was so common to hear people call friends a n0nce I didn't know the actual meaning of it, I thought it was just calling your mate an idiot, so I can back up its a very British thing to aim that insult at mates. I didn't know the actual meaning of the word for decades
It’s crazy bc I really can’t tell WHO any of her content is for. I recall seeing her show on Netflix main page so I started an episode, having no idea what it was. My partner & I were so confused. He’s like “is this meant to be dry British humor? but they don’t have British accents?” She honestly reminds me of this weird old nanny my neighbors used to have, who adults found super bizarre but kids loved 😂

As a survivor of sexual abuse in my childhood her take on her uncle and the jokey tone would have fucked with my mental health. To see it presented as a joke? This woman is bonkers.
She clearly has some kind of a maladaptive trauma response. Wouldn't be surprised if the uncle "jokes" aren't entirely fictious.
I'm sorry that happened to you :(

I've listened to some commentary on her history and honestly, I think she's trying to normalize child abuse
Especially since there's quite a few allegations on her brother
I’m sorry you went through that. Exactly, a certain percentage of kids experience sexual trauma/abuse and her using it as a punch line to a bad joke has probably done a lot of harm.
@@shrub8644her brother is apparently a big pedo and the whole family tries to hide it.

One of the women there even made the remark "that we are just as bad as men in this kind of situations, maybe even worse, but the difference is that we can't talk about it like men do, but especially: that we get away with it."
That was something I just kept on thinking about seeing how Colleen was not being slammed down hard in the way a man would've probably been after exhibiting the same behavior...
She was a grown woman when she wrote this "book" and thought tampons and pads taped to a page were funny. Tells me all I need to know.
One of her fans wrote to ask her how to use a tampon. Colleen did a video & put the unwrapped tampon in her mouth as "instructions." Then she had a whole group of young people putting tampons in their mouths with her.

This is why I watch both of them when they review books... we get analytical destruction of bad writing, and then just nuke-level destruction period
My mind is blown that so many reviewers say they bought the book for their 8, 9, 10, 11 yr old. Those are some demented topics in that book.
@ville__ lmfao trisha paytas exposed her what u gonna do about that
Why would you screen a book that's marketed towards kids bejond the blurb???
No parent I know, this generation or the older one, every did that.
@ville__this is so funny, how’s your day going colleen?
im convinced half of the parents that said they read this just skimmed it
@@cannedsaladsoup430 I have since become aware of her brother's interactions with her fans, literally texting 14 year old girls "My family said I'm not allowed to talk to anyone under 18 but I just want to spread positivity" and proceeding to tell her she'd "look good pregnant" and the sharing of pornography by her and her adult friends with children until the guise of "omg she's so gross" or "this is so funny" so my mind is just reeling at this point.
@ville__ the video was bad
All these jokes do is normalize sexual tension between adults and minors. Very cool Colleen.
the saddest part to me was seeing that most of the positive comments colleen has received since Adam made all those videos were from full grown women. and many of them with children themselves. it's just sad to see so many parents not care about predators on the internet... and it feels like it's just getting worse, especially with those insta accounts moms make centered around exploiting the bodies of their prepubescent daughters.
@ville__ ok I've seen you in multiple of threes comments sections bro go away
I had a woman with kids in her profile picture tell me on Twitter that Adam should shoulder the blame for being a male and that giving him some imbalanced power over Colleen. Poor Colleen, the 30+ yr old being groomed by that 14 yr old lad...
there is something wrong with that type of person, they need to be studied
@ville__ you've been posting this same spam message in broken english you colleen bot
Colleen isn’t the only sexually inappropriate mom out there. Remember she has kids of her own… many children are forced to be raised in unsafe environments. This is why we need to normalize not having kids, and hold parents to stricter standards. The more I see if the world, the more I wish more people were infertile.
as a child i read this book and most of the stuff i didn’t understand :| i didn’t know what p0rn was, i knew very few swear words, and i was neurodivergent. i clearly remember asking my mom “whats p0rn” and her being absolutely mortified that this was in a fucking MIRANDA SINGS book. but despite not really understanding many jokes, i still found it HILARIOUS because of a few reasons:
1- if something was supposed to be funny, i usually found it funny (i watched friends solely for the reason that it had laugh tracks which would help me understand when to laugh, no im not joking)
2- poop jokes and spelling mistakes were my EXACT sense of humor, so it didn’t really bother me that i didn’t really understand most the jokes because it had poop jokes, and poop is funny
looking back on it now im actually in shock. i dont know how no one realized that maybe this woman isn’t the person you want your children around before because this shit is CRAZY-
1 is so cuteee 😂
I watched Friends for the first time in my life I think 10 years after it stopped airing, maybe a bit sooner, not sure.
It used to be on TV during dinner time and I didn't feel like taping it each day, so yea, didn't see it when it was actually on TV.
The thing that has stuck with me though is how much children in primary school talked about that show, and I am 100% sure that at the same age most of the jokes would've flown over my head, not only due to also being autistic, but also because of the many layered, and quite the number of times adult jokes in it, that make me confused as to how children at that time were able to follow the show so closely as they did.
as a fellow autist, 1 is so endearing and relatable. as a human being with like compassion and shit, everything OTHER than that is horrifying sheesh D:
i would also just laugh at things if they were supposed to be funny, i don't think i could process half the words i heard watching tv, so i would just pick up on the vibe or que that i was supposed to laugh. like in anime when they fall to the ground when a character says a dad joke or smth
it was funny rewatching childhood shows as a teen and actually fully understanding what's going on
I’m concerned about the children’s publishing house that would bring this to print
Right? Seems like nobody read it through first.
aint it the same that published a jake paul book
It's Simon & Schuster which is a joke of a publishing company amd will put virtually any TH-camr into print, so that tracks.
damn this book was really dark and twisted… i feel super uncomfortable and disgusted
23:55 no, she's definitely referring to her underwear. "Pants" does mean trousers over here, but "panties" is always underwear, specifically women's.
This book didn’t just age horrendously, it was horrendous from the start
as a teen, I don't see how the format of this book could be appealing to anyone my age.
And yet…
as another autistic i completely relate and agree 😖
Can confirm, my 13 yr old’s sense of humor is much further along than Colleen’s…
My oldest had a better sense of humor than this when he was FOUR--and he thought anything and everything involving the word "chair" was absolutely hilarious for whatever reason, lol.
Alizee you are FEEDING us this week thank you for putting yourself through these nightmare books for our entertainment
I was gonna take a few days off too 😭😂 thanks for NOTHING Colleen
How did you turn out?

So glad I was too old for any of these
I got this book when I was like eight as a gift.
I agree
As a CSA survivor those uncle "jokes" would have sent me way back in my recovery .For one, I'd already sort of normalized it in my head, and seeing another child who seemingly experiences that so nonchalantly would have kept me from speaking out about it for years because "Miranda has that too, it's nothing bad".
I hope you're doing alright now, and a reminder that just because you're related doesn't mean you owe them a relationship.
At least that's a medical book presenting the facts. I'd far rather a kid learned the facts of life from a dry textbook than Colleen's book.
@@JuliaMarieHhonestly there isnt lol it's dangerous both ways
@divine555 I'm sorry what? It's not dangerous for children to learn the proper names and mechanics of their bodies. It literally keeps them safe and informed !!

@@trinesrensen6821lol, i intentionally did that bc it sounds like the actual word and i didn't want the youtube overlords to flag my comment
This book screams of a kid who’s been SA’d. Not even joking.
I'm so excited to ride this toxic gossip train (Love you Alizee
On our way to manipulation station!
ALL of this does make me wonder that as well

My heart goes out to all the Colleens that aren't awful people!
I'm truly baffled as to how this ever got published. The people at Simon and Schuster who okayed it should be ashamed of themselves.
Considering her books are still marketed and sold on their website tells me they don't give a rat's ass about what sort of drivel they'll publish.
@@meghanhenderson8417 we love capitalism 🙃
The worst part about this is that people like myself and others who WERE SA as children, will also see this and internalize that it's normal or their fault. When I was SA I was told it was my fault by most of society, even though I didn't even understand what happened to me fully. Reading stuff like being called a sl*t would have absolutely harmed me. Statistically some of the children who read her book have already been SA and I can't even imagine how much it harmed them.
"i was 13 when i found out what 69-ing meant and i was horrified and disgusted" same
I was in college when I found out. 😱
"WHY would anyone do THAT?!"
Let me put this into perspective when it comes to fandoms and what's really horribly wrong with Colleen's. I've been a BTS fan for the longest time. The members have recommended a variety of books to fans and have encouraged reading by featuring inspiration from books in their music videos, lyrics, performances, etc. Among those books are Demian, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The ones who walk away from Omelas, Almond, Into the Magic Shop, Jung's Map of the Soul, The Alchemist, and the list goes on.
If you can get the BTS fans on your side though you have it made

I would say this book is originally targeted towards 10-12 year olds. My friends sister was around that age who would get these jokes and knew who Miranda Sings was with the Netflix series. It's at the age to get the inappropriate humor and would find it funny. The whole book screams pre-teen (it should not be at all) with the satire, childish setup and inappropriate humor.
That's worse 😬 talking to preteens about sex in such a careless, gross way
If a 12 year old wrote this book, okay, maybe I could ignore it.

Not all of us who were SA, became predators. Most of us got the help we needed and became normal human beings. Thanks!

Edit after hearing more near the end of this video for clarity - I say predator because of seeing her literally put children's hands down her pants during live shows and asking them to describe their sex lives to her and sending them her underwear. Colleen/Miranda definitely had teenage fans, but yeah, that book is definitely made in the style for kids younger than 13
"she makes content for children, she's a lobotomite" god I love alizee's takes
The fact that this woman has three kids herself is horrifying.

Yes! I had an internship at a child advocacy center where I learned a lot about CSA prevention, and this kind of content is legitimately dangerous.
Soon as I saw Rachel cover the book, I wondered what you might have to say about it. 😅
I remember reading a book called something like "You Are Worthless" which was a parody of those 90s self-help books
Your pronunciation of ‘I’m Bri’ish’ was sublime
Wow, a comment from a channel with a checkmark that didn't blow up.
why no likes???
Rachel reviewing Layla when...no but seriously I love the crossover between your content lately. I'd love to see y'all buddy read a book (or two, one for each channel) and share your thoughts on stuff. (And again, Alizee blessing us with SO MUCH CONTENT WOOOOOO)
This whole thing has the vibe that the joke isn't *with* her child audience, the joke is *on* her child audience and them not understanding the sexual parts and possibly getting into weird situations repeating them
It quite literally is our responsibility as adults to behave appropriately in front of children...
the commentary i never knew i needed. thank you for doing the lords work alizee, and drudging through colleen’s book for us 🫶🏻
this entire book just has me like😐😑😐 every page.
i was expecting it to be subtle or something, but it’s all just so bad🧍♀️i cant believe parents read this to check if it was okay for their 11 year olds and still thought it was appropriate.
i feel well treated having so much of your content recently. thank u for this i love you and rachel lots and im glad i have time to watch !
It’s too stupid and childish for the people who’ll get the “”jokes””, and the people who might enjoy the style won’t understand the references (hopefully, and now I’m thinking of the poor kids who might be dealing with familial abuse, only to get their hands on this fucking thing and see it treated as the funyist jok evarr!!1!1 what an awful woman)
Oh, and I think you worded the whole nonce dilemma far better than I could have, and you’re spot-on.
Tbh I find most of her jokes funny, I just don't find it acceptable to youngnaudiences (obviously
i wasn't in a rush to look more adult or anything, but i was definitely also watching more adult stuff around 13/14. adult swim shows, a lot more MTV, and definitely more adult comedy too. even if i watched her stuff at that time (I didn't) i don't think I'd like this book lol
As a 14/15 year old I started watching more adult stuff when I was like 12 anyways I watched her when I was 9 ish and I feel like I'd like it then cause back then loud=funny but i wouldn't understand it but definitely not now
I literally looked into bestgore as a teen and even then I'll probably hate Miranda Sings lol ngl
As an American, in my friend group, being called a bitch is a term of endearment 😂
I just watched Rachel Oates’ review of this book and I CANNOT wait to hear you tear it apart.
I was just in the middle of rewatching the Alizee reaction to Fifty Shades and saw this upload, I’m so happy for more Alizee videos! 😊
