Clayton was pretty much #1. It's just creepy because even YOU realize what's about to happen before it happens. When the shadow pops up and you see Tarzan's reaction.... shivers man.

I'd say Clayton's death by hanging is much more disturbing than Ursula's death. As a child I remember being scared by Ursula's skeleton being lit up when she died. But seeing the shadow of Clayton's lifeless body hanging from a vine? That's pretty dark no matter what age you are.

KingAdrock420 I think the way it was showcased was perfect. A very eerie and gruesome death yet subtle and still in taste. The way you never get to see the actual body but the shadow against the tree was very clever, as it gets across the idea very clearly.
whatupguys1 I'm not saying it was out of line for Disney to do, but I think it's the darkest of the lot by far. Sometimes less is more, and I think leaving his body unseen, showing only the shadowy silhouette of him hanging lifeless actually makes the scene MORE disturbing, not less.
Don't get me wrong, the scene isn't bad in the least, quite the opposite. Everything UP to the flash of lighting makes for a good "Disney death". But once that flash reveals the profile of his hanging corpse, it takes a HUGE turn for the macabre; especially for Disney.

I never did until later in life. I was shocked to see his shadow. When I told my sister about the shadow she was shocked as well. Edit: The scene in the video was a bit different the scene I saw. The scene I saw still having Clayton hanged from a vine but you could see his full body and the vine that hung him in the shadow.

Clayton's death was most definitely the best death of them all. Not the best Disney villain going, but his death was so realistic which always adds to the horror. Something like that can happen in real life. The lack of magic was also brilliant. Not to mention his body being hung from the tree, now that was fucking disturbing.
Disney should main Roadhog more often if he killed Clayton like that.

Well, it can also be "woman's career". Like The Evil Queen, Zira, and Mother Gothel's deaths are.
And sometimes (though rarely), it is gravity that actually could save your life. Like in Scroop's case, in which there is no gravity, leading to Scroop not *falling* but instead *floating* to his death. If there was gravity, he might still be alive by now. All thanks to B.E.N. taking all gravity away and making everything float, he instead *rises* to his death, which he, btw, absolutely deserves.

Clayton's death was a clean kill, and definitely scary, but he was killed clean by his own recklessness. Not really scary for everyone involved.
Ursula's death was more brutal considering she gets impaled. We're talking Vladimir Teppes level brutality! Imagine being a kid and seeing these deaths. Back in the 80's, I saw Ursula's death and wasn't phased, but it was still BRUTAL! To this day I wish movies would replicate that sort of graphic brutality for a villain's death!

Clayton definitely wasn't the best Disney villain in comparison to the likes of Frollo and Scar, but his death was the best of them all. That was all kinds of disturbing. That shadow of his body propelling from the tree was graphic for a kids movie, also because his death was so realistically possible. Neck snapping from the rope? That kind of thing can easily happen in real life.

The same used to happen to me with the Horned King’s death scene.
I already thought that “The Black Cauldron” was a really scary movie. I would always dream that some monster was lurking around, and that was enough to freak me out. Sometimes, I would dream that the Horned King was after me, and I could barely get any sleep. Dreams about his death we’re the worst. I personally never liked the feeling of losing my flesh, catching on fire severest times, exploding, and then getting sucked into the cauldron.
Meanwhile, Dr. Facilier is literally being dragged into hell..

Clayton's death has GOT to be the most nasty of them all. That shit was just disturbing, seeing his body literally propelled from the gallows was sinister. It was quite realistic and believable as well, it's very much possible for something like to happen like that in real life. There was no alchemy or magic tricks in it either, even better.

When I watched the shadow of Clayton on the tree I froze. It was very unsettling and nerve racking to see but it’s Disney’s way of saying don’t be stupid and listen to others lol
The scariest part of Mother Gothel's death (to me) was her reflection in the cracked mirror. It made it look like she had 50 eyes, and the way she pulls her hood over her head is just very unsettling. Ursula's death is scary too. The way she wraps her tentacles around the boat gives off a Kraken vibe.
For me it was the fact when she hit the ground it was just freaking dust- showing how long ago she should’ve died

So, my dad Phil Young worked on many of the films in this list and actually animated a few of the deaths listed herein. Mainly, Mufasa falling and Clayton getting hung. So fun facts on both of those deaths. I remember seeing some of the animation he was doing, as he would often bring it home to work on. Originally, in Lion King Mufasa was going to fall and I saw a follow up scene which was cut. The cut scene was a side view long shot of Mufasa falling and the wildebeest stampede hitting him and his body rolling to a stop. Which was very powerful, but as they rightfully guessed, WAY too intense. Bad enough he gets killed in the first place. Clayton was even more graphic. The scene plays out as it does in the final release, but instead of the shadow of Clayton flashing in the lightning, you actually see his feet jerk to a stop, and dangle. My dad even added in a final twitch on his foot. Again, the editors decided the shadow would be effective enough. It was amazing the amount of work that goes into any Disney film. I'd see him work on a scene for a month or so, and then on screen, it's only a few seconds.

Frankly, Ive never understood why so many people get so upset by his death, but that's probably just because I have seen like 2 Disney movies, so I don't know the baseline for the violence.

Theory: the reason why most of the antagonists die by falling, is probably because the creators didn't want the protagonist to commit the same crimes that the villain did.

@@quinnycat5109 now that I think of it, Tarzan has a lot of deaths, If there were more people on the ship, then the non-survivors, then there is the baby gorilla, with the baby gorilla, Tarzan's parents, there is also the death of the jaguar, we also have big daddy gorilla (ok, I'm sorry), and Clayton's death of course. I most likely missed some, but there really is a lot of deaths if you think of it.
Clayton’s will never fail to give me the chills what makes it more sad/creepy is the fact that Tarzan knew it was going to happen you can hear him call Clayton’s name to try get him to stop, but obviously he doesn’t listen and falls to his death

I love how a lot of the villain's death happen at their own hand. Scar, Frollo, Gaston and Clayton to name a few. The hero spared their life as long as they fucked off. Hell even Tarzan and Quasimodo tried to physically SAVE Clayton and Frollo. All in all that's just ironic. In the end the villains greed and arrogance fucked them over.

For me, Clayton's death definitely took the cake for me, just the fact that we're able to see his hanging body gives me the chills, children who don't really understand it probably won't even bother to think about it except rejoice for the villain's death, but when you *do* understand *those* things, it's really creepy and scary

Notice that in the scene it didn't show his head. If you think about it, if someone fell from that high up in the trees with vines wrapped around their throat, their HEAD would literally rip off upon getting hanged. That is way worse than just the hanging itself. That's why I like Tarzan's villain death better. Lion King's villain death is second.

Facilier and Claytons both scared the shit out of me when i was little its not even a debate
To be honest, Syndrome's death in _The Incredibles_ was pretty brutal, maybe not on-screen, but the dude got sucked into a jet turbine, scrabbling fruitlessly as he's choked by the cape around his neck, pulling him in more and more, before being shredded to death in the spinning blades, and then on top of that, the jet engine explodes.
He did have it coming though.

No, parents are fine. It just depends on luck because some parents did stay alive for the whole movie. Fa Zhou is a perfect example. Thanks to his daughter Mulan, he was spared from an early death. So really, it's a luck of the draw for Disney parents. Disney Villains, not so much. You're almost certainly guaranteed to be hated, at least by your fellow characters and given a karmic death, scary or not. Or at the very least, face a harsh punishment for your despicable behavior as recent times has shown us.

She had two seconds to react. She wasn't that fast. Ursula was a big target. She couldn't avoid it. She could barely move. She wasn't paying attention to the ship.
Actually Ursula was supposed to die by having the trident thrown at her by Eric, but it was cut, but later used in Kingdom Hearts 2.

The thing with Facilier is for whatever reason he just seems like a really likable villain to me. When he was LITERALLY M dragged to Hell, I felt just.. empty. It didn’t feel like a happy ending

Probably some of the vines soften the fall, preventing it from decapitate him, however as it was around his neck when he finally found ground it was a direct neck snap.

My theory has always been, if you're a Disney villain, and you don't have any magical powers, you fall to your death. However, Queen Grimhilde from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is an exception to the rule--although she also got crushed by a boulder, and mostly likely devoured by those vultures in the end.

That's because it's one of the very few ways a person can die without directly showing a dead body on screen. It's violence and death without gore, allowing it to be "child-friendly". You'll know they died, but not have to see it as it happens.

I personally thought Mr. Arrow falling into the black hole was the most unsettling.
Given the ominous reveal of Mr. Scroop, him displaying his sharp claw, and Mr. Arrow's face upon realizing exactly what was about to happen, All that added to the depiction of him fading into the darkness of the black hole. Basically you have flat out murder depicted right infront of you.
The most terrifying for me would be Dr. Faciliers death (sorry I forgot how to spell his name). The first time I saw that movie, I didn’t even finish because of the voodoo magic.

Clayton's should be #1 because it is the most realistic. No magic, voodoo, Shakespearean backstabbing with animals, etc., just plain ol' evil bastard getting his just desserts. Also, showing that he's hanged via shadow from lightning strikes is a nice, macabre touch. Plus, the fact that the Disney hero (if you will) tried to save him, yet failed, also makes it all the more scarring. Tarzan was a REALLY great movie.
Clayton death made me have nightmares because people think that's not so s Ray but when you think about it that is scary.
