Rare viewings from the 19th century French and Italian countryside, courtesy of Camille Corot. He certainly didn't romanticise the portraits of the women he painted; their expressions give a rare insight into the raw work, drudgery and/or dullness of the lives they lived. It makes me stop in my tracks from my tendency to romanticise the 19th century.

My grandmother was born at the tail end of the 19th century and she had a couple of prints of these on the walls of her living room, along with a cashmere carpet and other ornaments from her life in India. I am learning the art of painting and I love your channel; it is most inspiring.
