Firstly the model you are test driving is the Excel model so NOT the top model, there were two models the Excel and the Excel Premium, from memory the Excel PREMIUM has different machine cut alloys, 360 camera, heated rear seats and air con seats, digital rear view mirror that uses a rear mounted camera and carbon fibre type front cockpit trim, the cost between the two is around £2,000 but the standard car is more than adequate, I see on Toyotas site that they seem to have discontinued the standard model as it doesn’t appear now so that removes any choices issues but raises the base price. You showed the Eco, Standard and Sport mode button but didn’t test that in the video, all I can say is that the Sport mode is insane and a great tool to get you out of trouble. For a big car the suspension is great if driven properly driving through the bends, I had a Land Cruiser stolen and with a years wait was offered one of these, taking it was the best decision I have ever made this is a SUPERB QUALITY VEHICLE, if it didn’t have a badge you would think you were in a Lexus! The Landcruiser and this is like chalk and cheese, this is a sleek comfortable luxury vehicle but with its limits as an SUV, the Landcruiser is rugged, plastic wash down interior and hard work to drive, its cumbersome and difficult to get in and out of as you age and certainly showing it’s age, it certainly has its uses and I enjoyed the many years in mine feeling safe and ready for any road conditions, but having had the Highlander for 6 months would I change back, NO WAY! This vehicle is a dream to drive! I was one holiday at Christmas and my rental car believe it or not was a Landcruiser the same as I had stolen, it was great to be able to compare them and confirmed I had made teh right choice. You have to face reality, how often are you going to drive up a mountain? But if you do then go Landcruiser! The boot space in this vehicle is immense as you state, with a lot of space you don’t normally see with the 7 seats up, value for many having looked at other vehicles in this class this is the winner for me. Hope that helps some people!

This car does not have a cvt transmission, it has an Ecvt transaxle which is completely different. Buyers are quite understandably put off by cvt transmissions as there have been numerous failures of cvts from various manufacturers over the years. The Ecvt has a planetary gearbox coupled with electric motors. There are no belts or pulleys associated with a conventional cvt. The Ecvt has proven to be one of the most reliable transmissions available. I tow a twin axle caravan with mine with no issues. Ecvts have been known to cover hundreds of thousands of miles with no trouble. I have read several reviews from different people incorrectly stating that toyota and lexus hybrids have cvt gearboxes. This is incorrect.

At 14:19 when speaking about the buttons on the right. You mentioned it’s the auto lighting for the exterior. That specific control is on the stalk itself on the right, the button with an A sign is the auto beam. So depending if there is oncoming traffic or not it’ll turn the full beams on or off accordingly.

also the 10 year warranty (100,000) works as long as you service it at Toyota and for the hybrid battery you get a 15 year warranty.

Those not used to eCVTs find the sound unusual, because they’re so used to how a car ‘should sound’ and work, without knowing a different way, but they are superb and highly durable systems. I’ve been using them in Toyotas and Lexus for over 20 years clocking up insane miles, and never had a problem.
For me, the major benefit is not having a clutch to worry about. Or a starter motor. Or an alternator. That’s hundreds, if not thousands of pounds plus vat, and a whole day messing about at the garage waiting for the dreaded “your car’s ready” phone call saved.
Toyota and Lexus are just so durable and reliable; I had a modern Porsche recently and was appalled by the never ending list of repairs and embarrassingly old world problems. What a headache! Problems which Toyota and other Japanese manufacturers put to bed decades ago, putting other makes to shame.

Apologies in my last reply I should have stated that you are demonstrating a Highlander Excel NOT the Higglander Excel Premium which is the higher spec model. The rest of the info is in my last reply.

In America I think only the top 2 trims have the 12 inch screen . I just bought a platinum AWD V6 &love it .I jumped on it as its one of the last V6 Highlanders in the states . Next year 23 will be a turbo 4 i don’t want . I would not buy a extended warranty as you won’t need it

It's an ecvt! No rubber bands, look it up because hybrids don't use a conventional cvt system

As for where to place the key you showed a drawer on the right of teh steering wheel which is where I sometimes place mine, but in most cases it auto opens and can be locked by touching either exterior door handles so the key is not required. Oh! The Excel Premium also has the Auto boot opening by using your foot waving under the left centre side of the rear bumper.

Thanks for the comment and that’s a difficult decision however I’d probably go with the Highlander as I don’t have a big family

If the presenter can't get the basics right about the transmission, why should anyone believe anything else he says?
