@@websitedesigner7158 Having watched another coopering video- so I am in no way an expert!- I believe the heating, along with spraying with water to dampen the wood, softens and makes it pliable for bending into a barrel shape. Unless you're referring to the burning pitch, which I think is done to help waterproof the barrel. In another video the cooper simply burns slightly the inside of the barrel to achieve the same end.
