You can get lots of assists and still be a ball hog, because you're the one holding onto the ball and deciding to shoot or pass. Having loads of assists doesn't necessarily mean a player is unselfish; it just means the offense is running through them, and they get to decide what to do. Harden and Westbrook get loads of assists, and they're two of worst ball hogs in NBA history.
