  • We often get asked about how Starship robots navigate around the community and those within, so we wanted to give a little insight - and some tips on what to do if you come across one on your journey. Have a look at how our robots navigate around various obstacles throughout its delivery journey.

Impressive, and this technology is clearly the future. Can see these operating very effectively in suburban areas, although in busy cities there are probably too many obstacles.

and street traffic so it would be hard to cross the road, but that's what the flying ones are for anyways.

There is a reason why a big percentage of Americans will never owe anything. And for that reason these robots will be vandalized.

Where do they sit in the Jan 2022 Highway Code priority hierarchy?

Pavements are for people. These things should be on the road

Why do you use any kind of CNN for collision avoidance when you have stereo cameras with depth information ?

    • @danutsfpv93
      @danutsfpv93 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Cause just "stopping at close obstacles" would be quite basic. If you wanna know how to correctly avoid a human you should first know that the "close obstacle" is a human, then predict the human's motion, and then plan your route.
Otherwise you end up in that akward situation where you both turn to the same side and laugh at each other 🤣

@@danutsfpv93 Ok fair point. You can do more with the decision making. But in this video it just looks like obstacle avoidance. But you can do more than "stopping at close obstacles" with spatial information about obstacles ;) That's simple trajectory planning in your local space. It's getting more interesting when you see a car coming out of an exit and the robot's state machine decides whether it waits even though it would have the right of way on the sidewalk.

@ In that case it's still convenient to distinguish between a car and a trash container. You don't want the robot to wait forever ;-)
Not sure I get your point though

These robots are a public nuisance they are very intimidating for the elderly and dog walkers. They do not stop when you approach often forcing pedestrians into the road. I hope they are short lived and lazy people make the effort to collect their own food orders. The elderly and disabled are mostly not tech savvy and wouldn't use these anyway. Zero benefit maximum nuisance.

I agree to some extent but technology is mostly used by lazy folks. Uber eats, online shopping and more have high usage. This will take over many things even if we like it or not.

      Complete nonsense.
Now about 2/3rds of regular customers... they are a public nuisance 😆

Thats wrong, they are very aware of any "obstacles" .. Benefits for local journeys are zero petrol, zero fumes & pollution.

    • @TSR1989FF

@@emmsue1053 Sort of: there is indirect pollution in terms of *where* the electricity comes from; and how well - or not - the manner of their old batteries are disposed of.
This is less than an equivalent man & a delivery scooter or car would produce, but is still more than - for the sake of example - a man on a bicycle or on foot.
