Sadly he’s been a washed fighter. He used to have so much energy and power moving around the ring at 160 during his championship rise. It was like watching a mini Marciano seek and destroy. Now he looks tired and sluggish even in the matches he wins. Very solid B+ fighter when he was prime though. He was the kind of guy that determined whether you’re elite or unconscious.

I think the key for Plant is to not f around to much. Use his skills but put the show boat stuff away. The body shot puts anyone down, as does that left hook. But the key to winning is touching B with enough stuff to make those shots available. Win on points until you can get the great shot in. That’s the out boxing skill he’ll have to show to win this. I wasn’t aware B had been floored. To me that shows a chink in the armor. I lean towards B but I think it’s doable for Plant with the right game plan.

I remember being taught boxing in Mr. Benavidez’s back yard as a child. Right off 55th Ave and Camelback. We’d run to Indian School and back for training. My Babo, Alex Fimbres (RIP) and Mr. Benavidez were training a few fighters and Jose Jr was a little champ in the making. For us, boxing was just a family value and every Fimbres was taught. Our summers were spent in Phoenix, but my mom wanted to keep us away from “that kind of life.” She was a traditional white girl that got knocked up by the older brown boy from the hood, who was an exceptional local boxer, “Jungle” Jim Fimbres, who flopped in his professional career. We were taught way more than boxing in that boxing ring in the backyard. I love that the tradition is still strong with your son!!!! It has been absolutely incredible watching your dad, you, and your brother, take that family tradition as far as you possibly can! Anyways! Much love to you and your family! I don't think he looks like a monster. His fight against Dirrell made him look very beatable. It's not like he's been super active since that time, or faced any amazing competition to help him improve and find holes in his game. I think Plant has the perfect style to beat him. He just needs to maintain a decent pace and not gas and turn into a punching bag.
It's easy to look like a monster when you're fighting guys who have no business in the ring with you in the first place. Even Plant looked unbeatable and untouchable before he fought Canelo.

I like Plant too. BUT Benavidez is like a freight train. If Plant can hurt him to the liver he has a chance. I think that's the only punch that will slow down or stop Benavidez.

I remember being taught boxing in Mr. Benavidez’s back yard as a child. Right off 55th Ave and Camelback. We’d run to Indian School and back for training. My Babo, Alex Fimbres (RIP) and Mr. Benavidez were training a few fighters and Jose Jr was a little champ in the making. For us, boxing was just a family value and every Fimbres was taught. Our summers were spent in Phoenix, but my mom wanted to keep us away from “that kind of life.” She was a traditional white girl that got knocked up by the older brown boy from the hood, who was an exceptional local boxer, “Jungle” Jim Fimbres, who flopped in his professional career. We were taught way more than boxing in that boxing ring in the backyard. I love that the tradition is still strong with your son!!!! It has been absolutely incredible watching your dad, you, and your brother, take that family tradition as far as you possibly can! Anyways! Much love to you and your family! Mi abuela, Alice sends her love too! Ask your dad about Alex Fimbres and Kangaroo Boxing Gym. I’m sure you’ve heard the stories though. The History of your family is an unwritten movie!!! benavidez style reminds me of a mini tyson fury. A big guy that moves well, always hurting the body of fighters and can take a beating.
If he had tyson fury's defense he would be almost unstoppable but he seems ok with getting hit at times

I don't think he looks like a monster. His fight against Dirrell made him look very beatable. It's not like he's been super active since that time, or faced any amazing competition to help him improve and find holes in his game. I think Plant has the perfect style to beat him. He just needs to maintain a decent pace and not gas and turn into a punching bag.
It's easy to look like a monster when you're fighting guys who have no business in the ring with you in the first place. Even Plant looked unbeatable and untouchable before he fought Canelo.
