You uploaded this on my birthday almost 4 years ago now. I come back and play it again from time to time. Listening to this almost feels like a meditation. I know you are probably just testing your rig. You should know that it doesn't sound that way at all. You never know what is going to come back when you have the courage to put something new out into the world. Would you have had any idea that this is a 4:55 stress buster? All of this is my long overdue expression of thanks. Keep playing and keep putting yourself out there.
Hey Mark, that's very kind of you to say. I love making music, and although this video was more of a "hear how this amp sounds" music can always serve many purposes. Thanks for sharing!
Oh my God! I thoroughly enjoyed both your playing and the sound of this amp! I've been thinking of refurbishing one of these for a while. Totally convinced now!
Fantastic playing! You got me to dig my modded VJ out and jam with it. Its got some really sweet, syrupy and warm tones that I love. I love it because it has such a unique tone, and you showcased that well!
One thing I’ve noticed about these amps is that those who use it for home recording love it, while those who want to crank it up and have it sound great live hate it.
Thank you, I saw your demo and have just bought one of these cuties. Good to know that she likes modulation effects in front of the preamp. Looking forward to play with mine.
@Sebyihi Yeah, it really is. I mostly play worship type music at church and pop-rock type stuff, and it works great for it. And the portability/price benefits make it such a great little guy to have.
I traded an old squire for one of these amps. I put it on my Peavey 412 loaded with Emminence M12s...you wouldn't believe it's a small amp! It rocks on both tone and volume. It plays with the $600+ amps just fine. I use the amps natural break up (no pedals) and you can feel the sound from 8 feet away easily. Too bad I'm not in a band anymore.
just got myself one of these lil beauts. I can't wait until I get a cabinet now! love the look of them and the sound is very good. well made amp! good playing dude!
@Notso94 hey man, thanks! And sorry, I just noticed your question!! I'm using it with a bunch of pedals in this vid. It takes effects really really well. There's not a whole lot of character to the amp at all. Just a nice warm cleanish sound. So pedals sound excellent through it. And it gets loud enough for me. But I usually throw the cab in an iso box or another room and mic it up for more control.
nate i think you did a good job showin what this little epi can do ... and i agree . for cheap its one of the best tube amps you can buy .. period .. even not so much for cheap ..i have one too so i know .. thanks for takin the time ..
@Fizikfizik Thanks! It's just a b minor root with a D chord on top of it, followed by an inverted D (F# on bottom) then a weird G chord haha. I'm sure there's more technical terms for them, but that's it!
@ACOUSBand Hey man thanks!! It's always awesome to hear if someone is into the music, regardless of how you get there ;-) I do cringe a little, as there's a lot of mistakes in my playing in this video, haha
Nice, digging your tone. I'm about to swap out the tubes in mine, going to try a 12at7 instead of the stock 12ax7, trying to clean up the gain a little. Granted I use this purely for clean tone while playing post rock stuff.
@@budgetgearguru4211 yes it did, haven’t plugged my valve jr in for a few years since getting a silver face fender twin but it did help clean it up! I might get it out of the closet and dust it off here and plug her in again.
Sometimes you just gotta use what you have. I'm not a music retailer or anything, this is just meant to be a point of reference. The "Sounding Good For Cheap" in the description might have been a clue ;-)
Looking at this amp for bedroom practice. How far can you go with the volume before it starts breaking up? I'm looking for good clean sounds so a bit of headroom would be nice (i.e. more headroom than the Vox AC4).
@ivanarato Thanks man! I really appreciate it. This is really for all the players out there like myself who can't always afford the real nice stuff, lol :)
I gigged with one for a while, in a mostly clean/edge of breakup tone and it was plenty loud with my 2x12 for me. I still mic’d it at most gigs but I could hear myself fine. It’s not stupid loud, but it’s definitely not quiet.
hello, i recently bought this head... I have a lab series l5 that could act as a speaker cabinet (it is equipped with two 12" 16ohm speakers). Do i have to connect it to the 16ohm input of the Epi head, or the 8 ohm input? What would be the difference?
First off, nice video man!....but here come the questions(i dont know too much about amps,so sorry if sound like an idiot haha) but with the cab extension how loud can these get? And can i use any stompboxes\pedals with it?
@Botdra Haha, well, yes and no. In the past, I've always used and loved lower powered Celestions (Greenbacks, V 30's, Blues) and still love them, but right now my 2x12 has two Line 6 speakers (also celestion made), nothing special about them other they sound great with my rig. So my biggest advice is just try stuff out. I do recommend open back cabs, and there's tons of companies who'll make a 1x12 or 2x12 for you and you can load whatever speakers you like into... That's what I did :-)
@Botdra Hey man, thanks! I do know Karl. I would say that in comparison to the Matchless he usually plays, that yes it definitely sounds boxy, haha. I do find that running it through good speakers opens it up so much more though. It's definitely brighter and more "voxy" through my 2x12. And it works awesome for church stuff. Currently, I lead through my 15w Night Train, and our lead guy (I play rhythm when I lead worship, and lead if not singing) plays the VJ, as it takes pedals better....
Hey man, it won't hurt it to plug into the 16 ohm spot, but assuming the two 16 ohm speakers are wired in parallel, you'll actually plug it into the 8 ohm spot. :-)
I enjoyed your playing. BUT, when demoing a piece of equipment it is best to use a proper mic that won't be over-driven, placed in a good neutral position on the cabinet. This way we might avoid the annoying top end hiss of the Kodak camera. Bear in mind the camera is designed to pick up mid range speech from 10 feet!

Best TH-cam compliment!
Super nice happy birthday
This is probably my favorite Valve Jr video
Mine too!
Why? Sounds kinda like u2 sound eh?
These sounds are so amazing and big! I come back to this video from time to time to get some inspiration. Thank you very much!
Wow! That was phenomenal! I got lost and forgot I was listening to an amp demo...
Haha, thanks! It's a great amp, very inspiring to play through.
I come back to this video when I feel down and it picked me
Up .... love your playing

Very inspired and inspiring demo... I wanted to what this amp can do...Music ! Thanks to you !
Dude you just sold me on this little guy! What amazing tone and awesome playing!
Thank you, I saw your demo and have just bought one of these cuties. Good to know that she likes modulation effects in front of the preamp. Looking forward to play with mine.
Hey Lucius! Glad to hear! Yep, it takes all sorts of pedals super well into the front. Great little amp! Enjoy it!

Bravo! Great tone you got there with the little guy, nice playing too.

you sir have some of the most beautiful playing on youtube, next to explosions in the sky!
Sounds amazing with affects
I am picking up a used one of these tomorrow for my stereo rig. Your demo did a great job of selling this amp to me for ambient stuff
I am getting one tomorrow too because of this. Do you still have yours?

Absolutely lovely playing! Love your sound.
The Epiphone Valve Junior is the best amp on the planet. Listen to this tone here. out of production. best amp ever. Stay tuned my Brethren.

Love these little amps..
@Allan500 just the delays and volume pedal. Sometimes I use the Tim to dirty them up a bit.
@clingontothis haha, thanks man, that's very generous of you to say.
Sounds great! Can you tell me what pedals you are using? Thanks
Dude this amp is so rad!

How loud does the Epiphone valve Jr get? I'm looking into buying one

It is a great amp! Nice demo! and playing!
Nice playing, man :)
great little amp!
Quality playing there
Great playing! The best. Rock on!
@Atari1309 Also, the lower volume makes for happy sound guys at church :-D

Hahaha by 2:0w I could tell for sure you were a church musician.
Sound reminds me of the band 'O'Brother'
Have you found going through a 2x12 that it could get loud enough to get over a drummer? Or jam with a few musicians playing at the same time?
Holy Fk
You played so well the clean was pretty good mixed with your style of playing you send me to a rainbow world lmao wp thumbsup!
Haha, thanks!
great job nate! I subbed.

Nice playing, have you tried
The orange micro terror!? Which one do you think should work better with pedals at church!?
+Jonathan Ojeda I haven't tried the Micro Terror, but the Valve Jr is sooo good with pedals. It works fantastic in worship settings :-)
sound is great also you play very good. i really liked first chords you played. Is it a song or you are playing randomly.
could you send me the tabs or chords to this
@marshalavt150 Thanks!
