So I grew up in Detroit in the 80's. When people still lived there, but crime was growing. We were sitting in the front yard when a garage walked down the street. By "walk" I mean, 25 guys walked into the back yard of an abandoned house, detached the garage from the cement foundation, picked it up, and then proceeded to walk it down the road to their house one block away. I can say, uniquely, that I saw a garage get stolen. Now I can say I've seen it twice! Thanks Splitsie! Congrats on parenthood, and welcome to the club!
I just wanted to say congratulations on the impending fatherhood! I found your videos when I was getting into Space Engineers, just when my second was born. There were many a feeding that I sat with him watching your videos while he ate and then slept, to the point where now if I'm watching, he comes running into the room so he can watch Splitsie and Capac. Thank you for all the entertainment, and being a fantastic bonding experience between me and my boy. Good luck, and god bless. It's hard, especially at first, but it's so very rewarding.
I really appreciate these videos. I enjoy long-form content that I don't feel pressured to stay affixed to and these sorts of things are great for that.
Also it's great to use as a podcast. I'm a forklift operator in the steel industry so having an earbud in listening to splits and Capac all day is a great way to move things along
Personally prefer the cut and curated videos, but I'll take any Splitsie content I can get, especially on the precipice of the next Space Engineers update. I'm watching this at 1.25x speed to compensate, and occasionally play solitaire. 😊
Hopefully I'll always be able to do both styles of content. I'm not sure which is going to be better to fit around the needs of the little guy when he arrives but I intend to always do a mix of both 🙂
@Flipsie Congrats BTW. Haven't had the chance to say it. My oldest is 9 now with her 2 younger sisters. Keep a hold of your gaming man, it becomes therapeutic when you need some time.
3:29:30 OMG, I love that the creepy shack has one Splitsie engineer plushie surrounded by many Capac plushie clones. Strange that the Caplushies were all upright, though... shouldn't most of them be knocked over?
Quick suggestion for the crane, maybe add a colored light that is turned down close to the end. You would be able to see the distance to the blocks a bit better i think... It would also let you see which direction you need to move the crane tip
1, absolutely loving the series, 2, when it comes to crane & base, Work around I've found is over pulling items off, use a trailer that's cheap to build, (beams, small steel blocks, piston stand and battery w 2 merge block, (one on each front) been disabling the merge blocks, then use the crane to pick up the enclosed section itself, using hinge or rotor you can make the front/rear open for item sorting and removal, hot swap cage 😂 hasn't been too bad for us!
Congratulations on becoming a father. Also when you where looking for a direction for some and said "I think this is the way", had me laughing. It's Splitsie the somewhat mandalorian
Splitsie, enjoy forever your life-changing family addition. My two boys are 30 & 28, and I have enjoyed every minute of it so far. As to Gasoline vs Petrol: there is no difference. Octane rating is done by additives to the Gasoline. I know you'll disagree with this, but chemistry says they are the same. If you were to look at gasoline from the 1920s, sure I'd agree less refined. But modern gasoline is refined into a molecular chain that is more uniform in size (1.2 - 1.25 nm) for more uniform combustion. 1920s gasoline had a 40 - 60 octane rating until the creation of "Ethyl", gasoline with Tetra-ethyl Lead as an additive to boost the octane rating.
Dropping the suspension all the way to the ground when parked helps with stability when operating the crane. Also, when you run out of bed space you can mag plate bits to other bits, and stack as vertically as you dare.
Are you going to make an "assertive scrapers edition"? With the scrapers edition, I was figuring Making them spawn less often and look like a bunch of hodge podge amalgams maybe even using some of the spawns from this. Maybe add two factions and have one an even more rare spawn that only spawn as buildings and it's some small shops that buy scrap and sell components and fuel/oxygen (or just ice). If possible, could the assertive scrapers use wheeled vehicles as implements as well as buildings? I figured people could add that and the crewed mod to get things a bit more lively.
Who would've thought that Splitsie was just following in their father's footsteps: driving precision-engineerd yet half-broken vehicles across vast stretches of rough and changing terrrains. On a *totally* unrelated note, I would now like to kindly request a series of two SE crews racing to get somewhere. Ya know, just after you get the whole "being a dad for the first time" thing under control (that's easy, right?).
First: Congrats or Pre-congrats on the baby. Second, the pacing of the game feels right for this play style. You're still really setting up a functional base at this point and I feel that seem about perfect.
@Splitsie :) The PARK script has one function you dont use and should. "Return to 0" or something like that. Would be best suitable for the wrist so you allways start all wrist parts (mainly rotors) from 0 position, Also as someone mentioned before and you registered it. Having on hotbar On/Off for wrist parts so the gravity will pull the lifted object down could be helpfull too :)
I'll try to find some time to mess around with the return to zero as you're right, having it or the gravity alignment for the wrist parts could be handy
Hey splitsie just wanted to say congratulations on becoming a father. My past year or almost a year has been busy and slightly stressful but being able to sit down every once in a while and watch a archived stream or edited video definitely helped. Thanks for all you do as a creator. Also wondered if you add some braking torque to the crane’s helm to reduce the spinning and rocking when you stop?
Another option to label your mag plates is to use "Show on Hud" option and name them as the corresponding button on the tool bar. Then group them and turn "Show on Hud" on and off as needed.
I know this is quite late but having finally managed to finish watching this - how about changing the ramp hinge to raise, add a little bit of breaking torque to the hinge and use the button to turn the hinge on/off. When you turn it off (to lower) it'll drop down to the limit set, but if it hits something on the way it won't try to push through it and cause explosions. Not sure if this one is possible - but could a very clever person make a mod where, shall we say, a very nasty pink coloured grid is subject to being deleted in the near future? This would allow 'useless' grids to be painted that colour and removed without using creative mode. A few times during to the stream, which I watch with my little sister, I made an aside to her about something (Such as 'Missing Texture Pink') To then have that said within the stream... Including, at about 2hrs and 40 minutes "Jump it Splitsie! I'll pay a fiver to see you jump!" A bit pointless on a VOD, until about two minutes later... So, here you go... Thank you for all the laughs, and hope you enjoy being a Dad - don't forget to get the Dad-joke practice in!
Huh, that's an interesting idea. I feel like I don't use functionality like that often enough. I'm assuming you're talking about the hinge/ramp on the trailer but I'm now thinking of how useful a setup like that could be for any vehicle ramps or the like I might try to build in the future :) Also thanks so much for the thanks :D
2:41:30 lol, bet that pucker factor clamped down on your seat pretty good. Even though you weren't fully paying attention, it is surprising how the terrain can completely blind side you
If Space Engineers would add water and food as a survival element and a little farming. It would really make the Scrap Only Survival gameplay even more immersive. I've been hoping they would add a basic hunger, thirst, and farming as a DLC. I know there are mods that do it but it would be nice if it was in the game itself.
Splitsie: Comments on how much steel plate will be needed to weld up his new garage. Also Splitsie: Paints about a million steel plate pink, & drives away.
@@Flipsie, true. I just thought it was funny. Given that you hadn’t emptied your cargo, and managed to fill it anyway, it probably wasn’t a problem. And, painting them pink does mean it’ll be easier for you to spot them to go back and collect later.
Its vare late for me. Almost 02 in the night. I started the video to see how you made the roof part of the base. I suposed 5 minutes tops. I was off by 30. XD GL with everything. Love the series and mod.
Splitsie, it would be cool to have your followers contribute ships for your space derelicts. And, if anyone encounters a derelict they really like, they can up vote them later on as ships to add as active in Assertive Cargo ships.
10:43 My solution to “more height needed” would have been mostly build the foundation walls higher, though that would have needed another crane, probably large grid, to maneuver the roof into position.
Hate to say this but you are wrong about Petrol and Gas. Petrol is short for Petroleum Distillate. Gasoline (gas) is the brand name of Petroleum Distillate used in the USA, primarily. Petrol and gas are the same but can also contain more or less octane depending on additives put in it (ie the usa adds corn ethanol to theirs). A petrol station works with a Gas car but a Diesel station will not. Diesel being a byproduct of Distillation process used to make Kerosene originally, burns too slow and less energetically compared to Gas. Engines need to be designed for them specifically to work right (compression ignition vs spark). The plants are now Gas/Diesel plants with Kerosene byproducts since we shifted in early1900's or so, less need for fuel lights and more for gas/diesel. We primarily still use Kerosene for jet fuel now from my understanding. Also congrats to you and your S.o, hope they both come out of the birthing process safe and healthy. Now you will need to set a Plushie next to you and name it after your little one. That way they are 'in' stream with you ~.^ but not actually :)
Actually, gasoline and petrol are sinonimes. In Europe while GB was in the EU, gasoline and petrol used the same standard for their specifications. You could have Regular, Premium and SuperPremium Specs.
Great series. Lots of engineering (and a few OHSA violations, but hey). And you'll love being a dad. I found the first 29 years the most entertaining. o7.
Hey, Splitsie, about asemblers, can there be diferent ones that make onlu some things? like ammo only asembler. or electronics only(computers and superconductors). that would mean, that player would need to diferent assemblers to first disasemble steel plate and then use that iron to make small pipe. or to convert one ammo type to another.
Maybe use a sensor to lock the trailers mag plates and have the hotbar corresponding the the unlock function when repositioning/ unloading. If I remember the 2nd small grid programing block was going to go "on" the crane. LCD on the back of rover "bye bye PINK" The last solar cells you you put in the other sm grid lg cargo before you started to jump start with hydro engines. (5:15:42)
2:13:07 "Capac's scared of subgrids" Huh?? He built that silly solar power palmtree on the moonbase in AA... and the massive swinging lid on his hangar.
3:09:25 Not sure if you made any already, but some fueling stations would be good as well, especially given all the rovers that spawn, there *must* have been some fueling stations/convenience stores. Especially with all the isolated farms. Edit at 3:36:13 : OK, you did, good.
1:56:00 HOW are you able to move those small grid blocks is that a mod? I wish I could keep playing SE. My copy of SE keeps breaking, even when I redownload it. Managed a couple hours before it started crashing and telling me I had a corrupt file.
Something I tend to notice about grids. You don’t need them until you need them, then you need a LOT. Maybe reducing the smaller finds rate while slightly increasing the bigger finds rate so that you find grids when you are more likely to need them. Space Engineers needs a tool that lets you puck up objects. In line with how you are “cheating” to do it. I probably would get bored of the mod if I couldn’t find stuff at the rate you have been on the stream. How many jours of game play have you gotten and still don’t have the capability to fight off pirates? Unless you disabled them aren’t you getting close? Loving this stream!
Ooh, a way to improve your crane! Make them connected to your storage and add a grinder head to it, assuming you can. Switch between a grinder head and crane head when you need to to make grinding down bulk items faster.
One thought, can MES delay some spawns until a certain number of other grids spawned, that way you would need to drive around to trigger maybe 50-100 other spawns before getting some of the things you need for the actual ship so you do not accidentally get those first thing. Or could there be some other trigger, that you need to reach some other goal. I do not know enough about MES and its capabilities.
Watching you add sides to the hat. Was thinking you should have just followed the same curve of the 1st, just added vertical walls to up the height. Then you could jack the 1st up to raise its height. Gantry cranes work and look best in more cubicle shaped buildings
Hey Splitsie, didn't see a comment on this but after watching Keen discussing the update they did mention adding the sun as a target to the turret controller.
actually splitsie there are 3 "grade" of gasoline just that most other countries don't allow the use of the lowest grade which does not have all the additives for cleaner burning and higher octane. so over all gasoline and petrol are the same thing. just yawl only use the higher octane versions
Close to correct... (not considering marine fuels and other specialty fuels) there are 3 different "grades" with different octane ratings, but there are 3 different ways octane is measured. That is why the numbers appear differently in different countries.... same fuel, same grades, different ways to represent the octane rating. Hope this clears it up once and for all, lol 😂
yea, the office buildings in that rust texture at about 3 hours in reminds me of Fallout 3, funny how someone from the stream chat mentioned fallout during that
I don't know if this has come up before but maybe a basic refinery to be found somewhere if it can be limited to refining scrap back into useful material or can the survival kit be made to do that?
Ha has said he plans to add some kind of refinery and assembler. But without the assembler, a refinery is useless since ingots by them self cannot be used for anything, so the assembler will be the real gatekeeper. And for that he said that the more advanced things will be in space so its quite possible you will only be able to build a small grid spaceship before going to space, but we will see.
@@davidmartensson273 i remember him talking about adding in assemblers but i hadn't heard refineries mentioned except that the plan was that we wouldn't need them because no mining
One thought is if you are going to extend it to space with assemblers is it possible to make refineries that only process one or maybe a few select ores?
3:37:00 Petrol is just the Commonwealth term for gasoline. They really are the same stuff. Or if "gasoline" over there is too low octane for use in vehicles, what you refer to as "petrol" is what we (Americans) refer to as "gasoline" or "gas". It's the exact same stuff, mix of hydrocarbons in the 4-12 carbon range (octane being 8-carbon, and being the "reference" hydrocarbon against which mixes are compared, hence "octane rating"). I wouldn't be surprised of Australia requires additional purification compared to the US, they're generally more forward-thinking on climate than the US, but it's still fundamentally the same stuff, but what y'all call "petrol" is just the same stuff we call "gasoline". Octane ratings for us vary between about 85% and 95% depending on the quality and state/area.
I paused the video at about 3h 33m and went to get a bite to eat, when I came back and looked at your trailer I could not help but to think it looked like a shopping cart, maybe that is what you should name the rover the "Shopping Cart"
I enjoy a good pedantic argument as much as anyone, 😂, so I will throw my 2 cents in. Not taking into consideration other more or less refined products like kerosene or diesel, or fuel blends and such... Gasoline and Petro are the same things. They come in the same grades. The only difference is how the octane rating is represented. I am not an expert, can't tell you how or why, but that's why the numbers are different in different regions. That is why there is the grade system; standard, super, premium;regular, plus, ultra... whatever those are will be the same wherever you are.
@@Flipsie You'd be able to build an emergency system into Capac's fighters that turns on hydrogen when he disconnects before turning hydrogen on. I intend on working out a whole set of operations fired by an event controller when the cockpit is occupied. Like your pre-launch list from ages ago.
@@Flipsie Understood. It's very much my aesthetic and something you rarely see in Space Engineers. There's so much more square footage than players, that building up is rarely necessary. I'm curious to see how you built them.
Congrats on the new addition to the family Splitsie. Is the economy enabled in this run? I could see you pulling up to a trade station like a Jawa with a trailer full of junk to trade for some useful items.
I don't know if this is discussed or not in the stream, but I think a light utility vehicle with light storage and lifting capabilities may be warranted should the worst happen to the current crane truck, considering Splitsie's track record and all. Something simple to keep at base should he destroy his survival kit on the truck and need to run back and salvage what he can of it.
That roof... should have placed a large piston inside with a magplate then it would have been only one axis for reconnecting. Splitsie only sees the hard way
Space derelicts sounds awesome even in normal gameplay! Just something As for the ladder/ramp, a system to deploy the ladder would be really cool and tuck back out of the way.
couldnt you access the grid info from the storage box but creative works the same i guess lol maybe have a button that on trailer that just locks mag plates
with that clocked up nose at the moment you weigh at least 100kg now ;) Did you know new born babys get imprinted with the first sounds they hear as the ones that sooth them the most? So is mini split ever whant's a lullaby you just have to hold you nose and start singing^^
I don't think the amount of large grid batteries you are finding is a problem. As you have to "break" them to transport them back to base. Now you have to find power cells to get them functional again.

This episode brought something to mind: Spotlights aimed at what you are trying to pick up on your crane arm would be very useful.

One of the engineers floating around the screen, while splitsie was taking a bio break, got a helmet full of crotch. Lol.
Maybe use a sensor to lock the trailers mag plates and have the hotbar corresponding the the unlock function when repositioning/ unloading. If I remember the 2nd small grid programing block was going to go "on" the crane. LCD on the back of rover "bye bye PINK"
The last solar cells you you put in the other sm grid lg cargo before you started to jump start with hydro engines. (5:15:42)
Nah, that LCD needs to be right in front of the cockpit/ drivers seat. You'd want to be reminded of that before jumping into the seat.
@@Pystro The reason I said on the rear since he uses third person a lot ... but both places could be beneficial
On the walker front the only thing I could suggest is BlackArmor here on TH-cam, seems almost like building mechs of many calibers is his life blood.
2:13:07 "Capac's scared of subgrids"
Huh?? He built that silly solar power palmtree on the moonbase in AA... and the massive swinging lid on his hangar.
Yep and he was terrified of them the entire time - for good reason too, he got hit by the lid at least once 😂
There's such unexplainable feelings that makes us to do something like Rover only play in Space Engineers or Plain only in KSP
Managed a couple hours before it started crashing and telling me I had a corrupt file.
a small crane rover would be a cool find in a hanger of high way like the other rovers.
1:52:21 Not sure I’d want the programmable block anywhere near the explosive blocks…
I hope everything goes well with the birth and good luck to you both on your impending parenthood!
TKC: 1 st: 6
If you play with wolves or spiders you can get powercells that way.
All that trouble to pipe up the survival kit and you don't need to...
1:07:46 It’s tall and wide, just not deep enough to feel correctly proportioned.
How about using a forklift for dropping things faster and moving later? Enjoying this as well 😊.
actually splitsie there are 3 "grade" of gasoline just that most other countries don't allow the use of the lowest grade which does not have all the additives for cleaner burning and higher octane. so over all gasoline and petrol are the same thing. just yawl only use the higher octane versions
4:46:58 Definitely need to steal a solar panel from a hangar to make sure this doesn’t repeat itself.
Sorry if you mentioned it elsewhere, what is the crane script you're using?
yea, the office buildings in that rust texture at about 3 hours in reminds me of Fallout 3, funny how someone from the stream chat mentioned fallout during that
2:30:17 Considering your steel plate needs at the moment, leaving a single thing behind to be made pink is kind of a waste.
I mean the fandom is going to call the child 'little splitsie' or splittlesie :D
I'll show myself out
2:41:00 is where the Survival Maybe started, I recognize the place.
@@StormHerald3D Ok yes it could be that it was only assemblers, but I am not sure.
Lol space hobo with his shopping cart 🤣
I enjoy a good pedantic argument as much as anyone, 😂, so I will throw my 2 cents in.
Not taking into consideration other more or less refined products like kerosene or diesel, or fuel blends and such...
Gasoline and Petro are the same things. They come in the same grades. The only difference is how the octane rating is represented. I am not an expert, can't tell you how or why, but that's why the numbers are different in different regions. That is why there is the grade system; standard, super, premium;regular, plus, ultra... whatever those are will be the same wherever you are.
@Flipsie congrats on the Baby!!!🥳🥳👶
Is there a "Speed detected" in the event controller? That would be very useful for boarding ramp retraction.
I'm not sure as I think they're bringing more to it than were there in the beta, hopefully it's one of the options
@@Flipsie You'd be able to build an emergency system into Capac's fighters that turns on hydrogen when he disconnects before turning hydrogen on.
I intend on working out a whole set of operations fired by an event controller when the cockpit is occupied. Like your pre-launch list from ages ago.
Are the office building blueprints published individually as well?
I haven't published any of them separately as they're purpose built for the mod and didn't really think there'd be a lot of reason to publish them
@@Flipsie Understood.
Simple, yet good progress
And that's why my crane's always have a magplate to attach them to the ground when in use lol.
Mine usually have too, though there is some fun to be had by taking the extra risk 😉
Could have used blocks and pistons to help with the lifting, splitting, and such.
I don't know if this is discussed or not in the stream, but I think a light utility vehicle with light storage and lifting capabilities may be warranted should the worst happen to the current crane truck, considering Splitsie's track record and all. Something simple to keep at base should he destroy his survival kit on the truck and need to run back and salvage what he can of it.
lol An insurance policy might not be so bad, but maybe I could make it useful in its own right and make a forklift of sorts
“Plushies-galore! (tm)”
congrats and good luck man
a catastrophic failure is not all ways a bad thing you can turn a failure into an even better option down road
That roof... should have placed a large piston inside with a magplate then it would have been only one axis for reconnecting.
Splitsie only sees the hard way
Space derelicts sounds awesome even in normal gameplay! Just something
As for the ladder/ramp, a system to deploy the ladder would be really cool and tuck back out of the way.
2:41:27
I splashed half my room with tea. It went worse than the truck, somehow.
you should use ramps instead of slopes for your access to the base
You should leave random dead engineers in capacity Orange with plushies in splitsie grey looking at them hidden around the moon base
Capac* orange, autocorrect strikes again
Is it just me or is anyone else not surprised to see shack immediately after a random explosion?
At the beginning, you could have slapped a bunch of merge blocks or batteries (random weight) on the opposite side to counter-balance. 😁
After w4sted called me out for doing that a few years ago I've been largely avoiding that method of counterbalance 🤣
couldnt you access the grid info from the storage box but creative works the same i guess lol
maybe have a button that on trailer that just locks mag plates
Pregrats on being a Dad😊.

with that clocked up nose at the moment you weigh at least 100kg now ;) Did you know new born babys get imprinted with the first sounds they hear as the ones that sooth them the most? So is mini split ever whant's a lullaby you just have to hold you nose and start singing^^
I don't think the amount of large grid batteries you are finding is a problem. As you have to "break" them to transport them back to base. Now you have to find power cells to get them functional again.
