    The new Asetek wheelbases while did note few QC concerns, reviewed well. From your review, it sounds like Asetek is doing their homework and being open to the community for feedback and that's good to hear from a manufacturer. I like what I've watched and hope for further enhancements. Currently, I'm running the SC2 Sport wheelbase and it's still meeting my wants/needs/expectations for a good wheelbase and see no reason to change anytime soon. Thanks for the comparison and review Boosted Media.

    I think the point is being missed, that no one is running their wheel at a constant 18-20nm of force. The reason you're feeling more detail with the Invicta is because the added NM threshold allows it to have a higher slew rate and give it more headroom for effects. If you're running your wheel at 15nm the Forte only has 3nm of headroom for spikes and effects, the Invicta has 13nm to play with.

    • @unotoli
      @unotoli ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it working this way? Only scientific measurement of slew-rate could tell the difference. Maybe his Invicta test on 50% (or Asetek settings) is more thann Forte on 75%.
      I hate to spend x1.5 just because of that. Forte is such a good product (La Prima is even better, but not sold wheelbase only).

    • @nb8c_fd
      @nb8c_fd ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's not how that works. The limit you set in the software is a peak force limit. The only reason for the increased detail on the Invicta is the slew rate, nothing else.

  • @slowride7164
    @slowride7164 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Tried both at ADAC Sim Expo 2022 In Germany. The felt extremely lite to me but they were buttery smooth. I generally run 12 nm holding, Asetek had these set at 4nm. I was able to quickly adapt to the 4nm easy and match my lap times to my dd1. I could see myself moving from my dd1 to one of Aseteks wheel and pedals sets.

    I really loved my forte wheel and wheelbase the last four days, but I had a problem where if I went over 4 Nm torque the force feedback will turn off, and I would get a message that said "Voltage too low" so after mailing back and forward with Asetek they have said I need to send it back to so they can test and check it.
    but even at 4 Nm torque, it was way better than the Logitech g920 I had previously, so can't wait till I get it back

      Good question! I think VRS still has a slight edge there, but I didn't feel it was as necessary to run it here in the first place. Overall I feel the complete force feecback is better with the Invicta than the VRS, but we're talking small margins.

      laughs in my DDPro 5nm being enough if not to much for me! Seriously though most modern road cars which I preform to sim have very little feedback in the wheel... Like the most feed back I get in my IRL 2020 Ecoboost mustang premium is when the lane centering kicks inn or I choose to make the wheel feel heavy... Which is why I use a race sim wheel at all is to get more confoble with wheel and pedals with my real car... as I'm used to game pads for driving. But yeah I don't need force feed back to drive tail happy cars fast and if I want it rumble is fine if not as great in the Xbox series controller anyway as it motors in the triggers and grips provide and more real feeling to road cars being you feel the drive though everything but the wheel.

    I wish you did cover Simagic stuff, whatever happened in the past between you and the company. I think Asetek and Simagic are the two most interesting companies right now and Simagic looks very promising with the great wheels and similar price points as Asetek. For me, the Forte and Simagic Alpha are in the pole position right now, but info on the Alpha in 2023 is very scarce and Asetek is still very young, it's tough to decide on anything. I'm going to keep my Invicta bundle order, but having seen the issues you pointed out, I now know what kind of issues to watch out for, and will be a bit more conservative in recommending the new wheelbases to friends. I think the Asetek wheel & base is more suited to those who are willing to put up with a few early QC issues and the Simucube Pro is probably the better bet for the remainder.

    I see many FFB profiles that reduce the slew rate to reduce the harshness of the ffb signal. Would turning down the slew rate be counterproductive, given it is slowing down the motors response? if one is going to turn down the slew rate, would it just make more sense to just buy the more economical version given it has a lower slew rate to begin with?

    So.. if you had the means/desire to buy one wheel that will last MANY years.. and offer the best overall everything.. would the 27nm invicta be the way to go, and just dial it down to 12 to 15nm.. so you have the extra headroom, and ability to go up more if you want? Is it worth the $1K more.. to be one and done? Assuming the build quality/longevity is say.. 5 to 10 years or longer? Or do you think go for the cheaper model.. it's enough and in a few years something better with more detail (not NM.. but accuracy detail) will come along and worth it to just upgrade then? I have a CSL DD that I am just starting to learn on, and I am not sure I like it.. feels kinda weak and makes clanking sounds and crap.. like its not enough force or something and my strength ends up being too much for the 8nm torque of the base. Hence why I am thinking going all in on the full $3K Invicta wheel/base/pedals setup.

      @@ploppen3872slewrate is the acceleration of the motor. A high slewrate will jump from min to max force rapidly, while a lower one needs more time to accelerate. With some damping and/or lowered max torque you can use high slewrates, but on high forces without much damping i wouldnt recommend super high slewrates. In a perfect world a fast acceleration would perfectly replicate the ffb of the sim, but the signals arent that good in most cases, so a lower slewrate can be even beneficial. If your wheel jumps from lets say 5nm to around 20nm in under 2ms because of a sharp spike in the ffb it can rip your wheel out of your hands, cost you time and also doesnt feel realistic. If you want to have a super raw and fast feedback you may like a high slewrate, but most people are dampening the feeling and signal anyways, to make it feel more realistic than robotic. it dampens rather the signal than your whole wheel. So there is no added weight or friction in the wheel, its just the motor that makes everything feel more rounded and soft.

      Thankfully someone finally inquired about the La Prima! I just got my La Prima bundle order processed early yesterday. I can't wait to receive it & begin driving with a direct drive wheelbase. I ultimately decided to go with Asetek after careful research & consideration. Reason being - simply due to Asetek's superior build quality & thier eco system philosophy allowing their customers to effortlessly upgrade into their higher-end products if & when they're ready. Asetek appears to be an outstanding company with a genuine passion for sim racing as well as their clientele.
      Below, I have listed the other options which I considered before making my final decision:
      a) Fanatec 8nm DD
      b) Simagic Alpha Mini
      c) Logitech G Pro DD wheelbase with the Logitech Pro load cell pedals bundle
      d) Fanatec Clubsport V2.5
      I will be sure to update this thread with my feedback regarding my order after I have been able to use it for a while.

      Have a look at Will's Moza R5 and R9 reviews, these are more budget friendly. There are also other reviews which are not as top priced as the Simucbe, Asetek etc.
      And maybe Will can get his hands on the Asetek LaPrima series. This is the entry level for Asetek, which over time can be upgraded to Forte (wheelbase) or even Invicta (pedals) by purchasing upgrade kits as soon as the budget allows it.
      I'm in the same situation like you. Having a T300 and low on budget having to save money for some longer time before able to purchase something. So all these top line wheelbases are not in my reach, even if I would save money for over 3 years. So budget gear it is.

    • @RetroSteve0
      @RetroSteve0 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@deathbysnusnu5174 The way I understand it is on top of slew rate, these motors have sustained and peak powers. If you are running a 10nm wheel at 100% power you may feel it burst to peak at 13nm (for example, like the Simagic Alpha Mini), but you're probably running into some clipping issues too. If you run a 25nm wheel at 40% power so it is outputting 10nm you're not going to have the clipping issue you would with a 10nm wheel putting out the full 10nm. Same thing if you take both of those wheels and set their power to output 8nm. The difference in detail may feel closer between the two because now the 10nm wheel has 2nm of head room and is less likely to clip now, but the 25nm motor is still going to feel more detailed. The 10nm motor is still putting out 80% of what it can, but the 25nm base is only running at 32% capacity. Hopefully that helps with understanding it. :)

    I just checked the prices: The VRS wheelbase is still 150 Euros less than the Forte Wheelbase (the Forte costs 16% more). So, Will, would you say the VRS wheelbase is still king in terms of value for money?

    • @boostedmedia
      @boostedmedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to factor in that the mounting hub (or an aftermarket alternative) is essential with the VRS base, which brings the price closer. But there's no denying it's exceptionally good value for what you're getting. Lets see what the wider Asetek ecosystem brings to the table in the coming months.

    • @joanesteveigarcia
      @joanesteveigarcia ปีที่แล้ว

      I add that, in addition to the Mounting Hub, a Quick Relay in the VRS is necessary. In the Asetek, if you buy your steering wheel, no.
      I am between one and the other. Even my idea is to buy La Prima and then update the power supply to save something money with La Prima bundle with the steering wheel.

    The thing which I can't understand from these Asetek reviews is the lack of mention of the La Prima which is 12nm, if Will is only setting ffb strength to 13nm surely both of these are overkill. Asetek have obviously realised the La Prima is all you need so are holding a base package and reviews back.

    • @boostedmedia

    Is the slew rate directly associated to the power of the motor?
    Not having either the Forte or the Invicta wheel base, I'd be able to live with the Forte and not expierencing the higher fidelity. If/when my current CDL-DD calls it quits, I'll heavily consider stepping up to the Forte. Also, Id need to buy a couple of Fanatec to USB conversion kits. But that is a problem for future me.

    • @boostedmedia
      @boostedmedia  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's more a design characteristic of the motor itself. My understanding (I'm not a mechanical engineer) is its a byproduct of the mechanical design (rotating mass, etc). In order to achieve fast response, high peak power levels are often required, so the two do go somewhat hand in hand as well. But just because a motor has a lot of peak torque doesn't necessarily guarantee a high slew rate.
      Someone with engineering qualifications or specific expertise in this field may wish to correct me here.
