I used to run an online business and would sometimes meet local customers so they could save on shipping. On one such occasion I met a customer at Dunks, and as I was getting into my car I got grabbed by an undercover Lynn cop. He dragged me to the back of my car and pulled his gun on my black customer. As he searched my pockets he took my phone and pulled my customer out of his car and searched him. After finding nothing, he then asked what we were doing. We both cooperated because I could understand how it would look like a drug transaction. The cop then tore open the order (no shipping label) and after still finding nothing, called in backup, cuffed both of us and searched both vehicles top to bottom while refusing to give our phones back. Even when requesting my phone to call a lawyer he told me to shut my mouth and sit still. After ripping the cars apart and bringing in a dog they had to let us go and they were pissed about it. They can do a protective pat down if the officer feels their safety is compromised. Im not an officer yet I'm still applying to agencies but I did graduate from the academy a little bit ago and you can't just search someone to see if they have something illegal. You have to have probable cause to believe someone could have a weapon on them. In this case it could go either way but like that guy said this is covered under Terry v Ohio, the case law that covers this type of situation.

If it's really what you "do for a living" then you should know about obtaining a Filming Permit. Don't start with the Constitutional argument, as it does NOT apply to staged filming. Obtain a permit and you won't have any problems at all, because the police brief everyone on any shifts that overlap the schedule on your Permit.

I used to run an online business and would sometimes meet local customers so they could save on shipping. On one such occasion I met a customer at Dunks, and as I was getting into my car I got grabbed by an undercover Lynn cop. He dragged me to the back of my car and pulled his gun on my black customer. As he searched my pockets he took my phone and pulled my customer out of his car and searched him. After finding nothing, he then asked what we were doing. We both cooperated because I could understand how it would look like a drug transaction.
The cop then tore open the order (no shipping label) and after still finding nothing, called in backup, cuffed both of us and searched both vehicles top to bottom while refusing to give our phones back. Even when requesting my phone to call a lawyer he told me to shut my mouth and sit still. After ripping the cars apart and bringing in a dog they had to let us go and they were pissed about it. These cocksuckers really have no clue why people hate them. Its because of shit like this. I mean best case scenario, they bust a drug user. Big fuckin whoop.

You have to have probable cause to believe someone could have a weapon on them. If it's really what you "do for a living" then you should know about obtaining a Filming Permit. Don't start with the Constitutional argument, as it does NOT apply to staged filming. Obtain a permit and you won't have any problems at all, because the police brief everyone on any shifts that overlap the schedule on your Permit.

I support young black film makers however can we ever take our camera and film something positive about the black men, instead of young black men always in the hood carrying weapons. The real POLICE don't know that until they investigate for themselves. Their search was completely reasonable because impersonation of a police officer in most states is a felony offense. They had more than just reasonable suspicion, they had probable cause to search for the above reason I just gave. Learn the law dummy before you make stupid comments.
