Fantastic to be able to fly over bothNgauruhoe and Ruapehu. How close are you allowed to fly around those mountains. Way back in 1961, there was considerable controversy when an Aero Commander twin passenger aircraft came to grief when its starboard wing fell off. The infamous Ron Chippindale would not accept that the pilot did not hit Ruapehu as the pilot was not allowed to fly within 500 feet. I expect glider pilots have to be much closer at times. When over Ngauruhoe, have you ever had lift from the heat of the volcano? Cheers.
I’m an American living in Ohio but lived in Ohakune in 1966 for a short while. I took a winch flight in a glider somewhere between Waiuru and Ohakune. Went back to the US and got my glider license but have not flown in a glider since. Loved your video and love New Zealand. I did take my wife back to New Zealand and to Mt Ruapehu in 2017.
Thats really Sad lol 😂 yes be interesting to see how much snow is left after this developing hotish Summer ... Yes i Need to hook up with Tim to see if i can get some ground shots of him soaring around the Peaks lol ...
Nice flight. Getting some soaring in vicariously during my cold winter months, thanks to you folks in the southern hemisphere posting. 🙂. Are you allowed to go right up to the clouds there? Here we're restricted to 500' below. Also, I heard some squeeking/whistling, so wonder if you had some tape come loose? Didn't look good at the start, but it looks like you had a spectacular day!
Wonderful!! Bit of a bladder-burster flight? Many, many years ago I was over in NZ and got a (short!) flight over those very volcanoes in a small plane - seemed a right struggle for the wee thing, and the pilot was always very wary of potential strong down drafts!
I suppose that might be challenging for the average glider, but hey, maybe the thought of gliding can be a good motivation to change that, you never know what you can achieve
Goodstuff! However your top yaw string is about 1 to 2 cm too long and flops around too much not giving you a true yaw indication. Compare it to the lower yaw string while playing back this video and you will be convinced.
I watched it today while flying, it wobbles around the same amount as the bottom one despite what it looks like on camera! I do need to tweak them though
The time lapse along the convergence is cool watching the clouds form in front of you.
Pretty awesome eh! The clouds make so much more sense with a time-lapse, they just move too slow for us to notice sometimes
@@PureGlide yes same with wave

Thanks for sharing. Legend
Cheers, thanks for watching
Looks like great fun, thanks for the northern midwinter boost. Whoo-hoo!
My pleasure :)
That was fricken cool to watch! Very enjoyable, even the tunes ha ha. Cheers mate!
Thanks a lot!
Dat ziet er heel mooi uit. Groet uit Roemenië Dick
Great flight, Tim! My, those volcanos were impressive. And scary looking ("please don't blow up")!
Thanks Sarah!
@@PureGlide you are welcome!!😄
Thank you for sharing! Pleasure to watch 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
beautiful flight! thanks!
My longest flight was also using a convergence line! 29 minutes of pure fun :)
Outstanding.
Great video Tim! Loved both the time-lapse and the mountain footage. Never seen those volcanos looking so menacingly volcanic!
Thanks so much!
That’s incredible!
It's pretty awesome eh
Very nice ..really enjoyed that one!!
Many thanks!
Excellent as ever.
Stunning ride, thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
excellent Tim
Thanks!
Wow great flight and liked the time-lapse segments
Thanks for watching!
Excellent video as always Tim.
Thanks again!
Should've flown over to Galetea. Conditions were Booming.
Of course!
Excellent flight! Cold here but maybe we'll luck out and get some good wave :)
That would be nice, cheers for watching
It’s cold in Delaware. Thanks for helping plan tonight’s MSFS flight! Great video as usual.
Glad to help!
COOL!

Hi the whistling is my mylar, if I'm in the wrong flap setting for a certain speed, it can whistle a bit!
Ah, yes flaps. Never flown a ship with them. It's on my bucket-hat list.
Perfect 🎶
Thanks!

just why I have an in-flight funnel. The wind was light this day, so no big downdrafts expected :)
That was awesome! So wish I could go gliding, but, have been told my 132kg blob is to heavy.
I suppose that might be challenging for the average glider, but hey, maybe the thought of gliding can be a good motivation to change that, you never know what you can achieve
Are you testing the new oudie N? Will there be a Video about it?
Yeah exactly, might have one coming soon
super
Thank you
I hope the NZ Tourism Board is paying you for the good work you're doing!
I wish!
Why does lake Rotakawa create thermals @ :30 ? Is the lake a geothermal hotspot?
it sure is, right beside the lake is a geothermal area. Not sure of the lake temperature itself!
So inconsiderate for mt doom not to blow and give you some awesome thermals
That would make a good video too :)
Hoeveel uur duurde deze tocht?

I strongly dislike sped-up footage with trivial and irrelevent music.
Sorry it's that or silence for the time-lapse! thx for the feedback
