Die guten alten Zeiten .Stunden lang feines bestes Tennis gesehen aber nie aufgestanden von dem lieben Fernseher es waren schöne Zeiten wir vermissen sie alle glaube ich. Boris einfach wow
Becker could generate some much power on that serve. Nice friendly handshake amongst the two at the end. What a match at such a high level. Glad to be able to go back and watch how good these matches really were.
I agree. I loved the handshake. McEnroe was cool about it. Fight like mad and then decent to each other at the handshake. McEnroe was a jerk to umpires, but, I like him now.
Sweet upload , 80's era tennis at its finest. Notice time between points, short, sweet, no toweling off. Or bouncing ball 25 times. Get to line and serve. Love signature Becker dive volley on critical point. Miss net play, besides during handshake. Arthur doing commentary. Good stuff. Thanks.
That was one of McEnroe’s best matches after his comeback, and clearly not far away from his peek in 1984 and until the mid ’85 season. He just didn’t have the continuity to get back into the top 3 anymore. Really sad that he got powered away …
Interesting at 2:15 they mention up and coming stars. Paul Anacone, Todd Winskin, Gary Donally. None of whom really did anything much with their careers.
I like how Becker and McEnroe actually liked each other DURING the time they played. The 2 guys just seemed to get along, even when some of their matches had testy moments. Most of the time, it wasn't problems with the other player, but usually umps or fans, but generally they just got along.
@@swalterstennis he was always a good looser, he just got angry at either himself or faulty rulings. and to be fair ive never seen mcenroe wrong when he complained about that. todays eagle eye is actually a never version of the inspired by him "mac cam" because of this. so indeed changed that sport a lot more than people realize
@@swalterstennis For McEnroe, EVERYONE in the world falls under one of two categories: "beneath" him and "above" him. If you're the former, he'll treat you like sh*t, the latter he'll kiss your ass. Becker moved to the latter with this win.
until Henman came on the scene our great British hope...Boris was my fav player to watch...his dives were stuff of legend.. even Better than his fellow countryman Jurgen Klinsmann! and that serve.. Boom Boom 🎾
When you see Mac play like that, it makes you wonder why he didn't win another Slam after 86! Also, very good quality picture!! Looks like you’ve uploaded a new version!!
I guess that McEnroe didn't notice, as Agassi did, Becker's tendency to serve in the direction that he was pointing his tongue! Agassi has stated that he was able to return Becker's serve so well on key points in a match because he would, according to him, wait until critical points in a match against Becker to read the direction that Becker pointed his tongue just before hitting a serve! If only McEnroe had noticed that tendency by Becker, he would have been more successful in returning Becker's howitzer serve! Agassi didn't tell Becker how he read Becker's serve so well until after they had retired from the men's pro tennis tour and were attending Oktoberfest in Germany one year.
McEnroe's serve is creepy- he stands with his body sideways to the net (so you can't see what he's doing). Also, he's left handed (which confuses his opponent's perspective).
Its ALL relevant to how many tennis balls your hitting .... You could see John trying to 'feel it out' ... Terrible place to be for a tennis player You need that ball on a string "You just dont get it with out match play" Still a close match Boris didnt hit them that well that day either (Only my opinion )
Horrible last 4 games, only 3 exchanges worth of their rankings. I hope it was the transition to different raquets materials, but for sure they didn't know how to anwser to powerful serves. Poor fans!
Best tennisplayer lost give them both wooden rackets and you would not even heard of Boris Becker although i like Boris John is in this match still the better natural player almost all the longer rallies went to John i rest my case............
Live in present and future not past OK people should upgrade to new things Everybody wants new model 📱 not old model after modern rackets and strings changed French open became interesting all players are playing nice with more power in their shots OK
That handshake at the end is the utter definition of sportsmanship 👍🏻
Oh jesus how much i miss you guys!! Tennis class all the time..
This was great 80’s tennis. Lendl, Becker, Edberg, McEnroe, Wilander and Connors.

Boris Becker !!! Er hat den Tennis - Sport zu uns nach Hause gebracht. DANKE BORIS

Yea, imagine how hard he'd be serving with today's racquets and strings. Probably mid 130's easily.
I agree. I loved the handshake. McEnroe was cool about it. Fight like mad and then decent to each other at the handshake. McEnroe was a jerk to umpires, but, I like him now.
They were playing the most modern and offensive tennis for that time , always going to the net, serve and volley..terrific

Short points= snooze fest
nice upload! really enjoyed watching this great match again. man could boris could pop a serve !!
Both are absolutely fantastic players and they showed really great beautiful matches
I would have loved to see Boris or John, Lendl play against Federer, Nadal, Novack.
McEnroe back from a break of several months, still playing well but far of his best level
That was one of McEnroe’s best matches after his comeback, and clearly not far away from his peek in 1984 and until the mid ’85 season. He just didn’t have the continuity to get back into the top 3 anymore. Really sad that he got powered away …
And Becker s dive it is something we don’t see anymore
Mac played really good !
Great, great, great upload! Thanks, MJM.

Love those times Boris

I think they are friends to this day.
9:14. Second serve, killer kick by Becker.
This was maybe the warmest post-match handshake in the 80ies.
Ya, that was cool. I didn’t know what to expect from McEnroe!

Ok, I 100% love McEnroe now. I just didn’t like it when he was an ass on court.
these both always had a good relationship with mutual respect.
After the handshake, they are still talking.
McEnroe and Becker seem to be on good terms
That was tennis! Unreal...
Becker left so many championships on the table.
I don't think he did. Which tournaments in what years do you think he should have won?
Who liked Baker's diving shot like here.
Amazing Becker's jumped volley at the end
New generation wins here
Que monstruos del tenis no me canso de verlos
Boris Becker Dive - fantastisch
I believe that's Mr. Arthur Ashe with commentary, this is awesome!
Great match, many thanks. Any chance someone could upload the semi-finals? Would be extremely interesting
Tennis at that time was nice to view. Today is Boris 55th birthday, 22.11.22.
until Henman came on the scene our great British hope...Boris was my fav player to watch...his dives were stuff of legend.. even Better than his fellow countryman Jurgen Klinsmann! and that serve.. Boom Boom 🎾
McEnroe's temper was a class of its own
I swear I didn't know it was Mr. Arthur Ashe before they announced it was Arthur Ashe lol. Still, what a great voice, sadly missed.
I forgot how about Mac's footspeed, but then he was considered a world-class soccer player in high school.
Beautiful tennis

His last slam win was 84. Although he did win the WCT in 89.
Boris Becker won 6th major title in 1996 at Australian open actually
@@kikaa1884 I was talking about McEnroe!
@@onthe4572 I meant John McEnroe can win major title if he tried OK
@kika A McEnroe was 9 years older than Boris. He did try, but had clearly lost quite a bit after 86

no hand to the man on the chair ???
Lang ist's her
WONDERFUL...............
Bring back the carpet courts!!!!
Incredible tennis
Mac est le plus grand joueur de tout les temps
Why did back then their look much more elegant than nowadays!?
If Mac was able to handle Beckers's power a bit better he would have won this match easily.
Really?
Fun to watch. A great part of my life............ gone now.
BECKER IS THE BEST
No mac at best beats boris.
I like indoor tennis ... it’s not so bad
McEnroe's serve is creepy- he stands with his body sideways to the net (so you can't see what he's doing). Also, he's left handed (which confuses his opponent's perspective).
Both Didn`t Shake The Hand Of The Referee.
+Marc Engelhard No one did in the 80s.
I think everyone did except John.

You're Exaggerating. I Also Watched Tennis Back Then.
Pity these two never met at Wimbledon esp in 85
They met twice That year and McEnroe won twice 6/3 6/4
Hard to imagine the winner of this match is now in *prison!*
I serve like becker, Im volley like Becker.. N I slice the ball like Becker
Boris rulez!

I've been telling friends now for a long time, give them all wooden racquets and the tennis history books would look a lot different.
