Thanks for sharing your experience! It is really reassuring that you had fun playing the demos. I know for certain that this trilogy is going to be amazing, but it is still always nice to hear others confirm it. :) The photo of you and your son was very sweet! One day soon you will all be playing it as a family!
:P I'm sure alot of people will enjoy it. Both people who make YT vids of it and viewers alike~I'll be streaming it myself. Seperate vids take far to much space XD i'm running out of gigs on my ps4 haha
Toys for Bob/Activision please make the demo available for download on the 21st! I’m dying to play this. I haven’t been this excited about a game in years!
I can't believe I missed this video. The way you described the music changing when Spyro charges and how it echoes inside structures.... sounds soooooo amazing!
I can not wait to experience Spyro. Ever since I was a kid I only saw others play it on PS 1 in a PC cafe but for consoles only and never got the chance to even get a hold and just press the forward analog stick. This will change however since I will await for it on PC and it will be a instant pre-order when it shows up on Steam.
Ahh!!!..Finally another video!!..I just found your channel a few days ago and had been catching up on your videos..really great stuff!. I share your excitement..big Spyro fan!!..I'm envious..but i'm glad the response is positive..it's looking sick!
It makes me so unbelievably happy that they kept the action of Spyro looking inquisitively back at the player when he hasn't moved in a few seconds. Honestly one of my favorite, little details of the old games
I was at first a bit bummed that the trilogy was delayed. But November 13 is 3 days after my 25th birthday! And getting to play this BEAUTIFUL game for my birthday...*sniff*...makes me wanna cry!
I’ve got myself a brand new ps1 in good nick, for £20 in a charity with two controllers and the set up to connect to the TV, with a bonus that it hasn’t changed it’s colour if it’s left in the sun. And I got myself all three Spyro games, with only played a little of 1, grew up with 3, and never played 2. By now I’ve completed 1 and 2, and now on 3.
It's the time that I give everything to not living in Brazil. :/ I tested the game in June when Activision brought the Road Show, but I only was able to play Tree Tops and in 15 minutes at maximum. It's nothing like playing it 5 times, like you. Congratulations! And I can't wait to play the whole game at all.
It’s so great to hear your honest opinion on the gameplay and the controls! Especially on the skateboarding bit! I’m totally jealous, though xD I wanna play it so bad, the wait is absolutely killer.
When I played Spyro at PAX, I think the main thing when you said turning is "smoother", I thought it was too sensitive. Charging is really hard to aim now and turning makes me nauseous. Hopefully sensitivity is customizable.
The real question is does active and passive still exist? Active was the best thing about Spyro 1's camera, as you could turn around and the camera would center itself in front of Spyro if he was facing towards the screen. Not having that would pretty much be a bummer. I never preferred to use the bumpers in Spyro 1 and I most certainly can't picture myself trying to turn the camera to position for a tackle either but that's just me.
You have some really great observations here. You're explanation about changing the models to match the hit boxes also explains why the lizards in the skate parks are so big! The hit boxes were huge, but the OG models were tiny. Regardless of whether you think they're too big now or not, at least it looks like you actually hit them. And you're point about the jumping during skating is very helpful. Hopefully TfB has time to tweak that before the release.
Pretty good analysis. I want to bring another point of interest is the headbash move. Originaly on Spyro 2 the headbash is like the charge attack where big enemies are unaffected, only has special properties of breaking boulders and target chest. Now on Spyro 3 the headbash has the power to even take down big enemies where the charge fails. It would be good to have a clarification as to what would be the final settings for the headbash for both games. To me i really liked that the headbash defeats big enemies, so i would like that this possibility is real for both Spyro 2 and 3
Love that the gem tracker is in Spyro 1 now, though it makes me wonder what you'll unlock in the Sparx world in Spyro 3 that gave you the skill for that game.
The visuals matching the hitboxes is likely a direct result of the fact that they didn't have the original source code. They didn't tweak the existing visuals, since they presumably didn't have those assets to begin with. As you've previously mentioned, they used a tool to map out the exact hitboxes, then "painted over" them to create the visuals, which is why they match much better now.
It’s strange, this video has made me feel more at ease when the whole trilogy, more accepting and more excited for it! It is strange because I wasn’t even worried about the controls, I just wasn’t sure on the new design. Only because it would never top my love and nostalgia for the original. But what can I say, I don’t know why but the footage in this video has got me over that. I am in love with this game, I want to play it so much. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts in this game!
I knew jumping on skateboard was off. Just watching the gameplay felt weird to me (especially jumping to that ledge with 2 lizards from ramp near the tunnel was really bad). I really hope they nail these important details in Spyro 3, because it is easily my most nostalgic game of all time.
I already could sense something was off with the skateboarding from the footage, the fact you get LAUNCHED off the ramps was my first indicator, and it made me realise that something that had been changed in there. And i guess I was right. All that other stuff you talked about, cool. I was wondering how the camera control was being changed, and now we know it's basically both the old and new. Good stuff.
Yeah I was curious about the controls. Cuz the hit boxes and physics were pretty darn great in the originals, but the controls were pretty darn tanky, which makes sense since they only had a d pad. I figured they would make it more fluid and fix those trigger cameras. Really happy to hear a first hand account from a true fan
"They only had a Dpad"... *WRONG!* Spyro 1-3 had *full* support for the Dualshock controller's left analog stick and were, in fact, I designed with it in mind. They even booted up in analog mode by default! I am honestly amazed so few Spyro fans know this...
@@InsidiousOne IMO, d-pads are indeed essential for 2D sidescrolling platformers but for 3D ones like Spyro, an analog stick is absolutely *mandatory* because it allows you to make fine adjustments to your turning. All I'm saying is that there's a reason Nintendo used analog controls exclusively in pretty much all of their 3D home console games from Super Mario 64 onward. ;)
Zachary Erickson you know, most of the 3D platformers don't really feature any places where you need to do tricky turns. Most of the time you are going straight forward with occasional turns, and those turns never demand any fine work. On the other hand, there is a lot of places where you need some straight motion control, like, for example, breaking a line of crates over the pit in Crash Bandicoot. And d-pad does the work perfectly: every press will always respond with the same amount of movement, and you also can do a perfect 180 turn without a risk of turning the stick slightly wrong and falling.
So happy you could play the demo and glad you could also point out to improve the skateboarding mechanics. I hope Toys For Bob will see your video and they will consider change it :)
Can you answer a question for me? While Sparx is pointing to gems, is Spyro able to move and walk/run around? In the original it didn't let you move around while he was pointing, which was really annoying. Did you happen to notice if they changed this?
I think (I'm fairly sure) they changed it so that you can run around while sparx points towards the direction ! Not 100% sure however, but about 75%! :)
How's the hovering mechanic for those that play the demo? I rarely see anyone do the hover glide for Spyro 2 and 3 game footage for the Reignited Trilogy.
Would have never thought that those wooden stakes in the skateboarding level were Wing Chun Wooden Dummies now that I practice Wing Chun Kung Fu. It even adds more coolness in the game
I also believe that you may be nitpicking a little bit. Sometimes in the original, Spyro's skateboard jumps were unresponsive. At least now he actually jumps. The game controls and movements don't need to be exactly like the original(because if we nitpicked that enough, they may give us that bullshit Bentley controls and boxing).
I really appreciate you being honest with your opinions on this game. Some people bash remakes to the point of not liking it at all and some keep their nostalgia glasses on too much and ignore all the flaws a game might have. But you seem like you're in the middle and I'm really happy about that. You geek out on the game while still addressing issues that you feel need to be fixed. I can't wait for this to come out!!!! I'll be replaying Crash Bandicoot on my PS4 in the meantime to keep me sane haha.
Wondering how the gem finder is going to work in Spyro 3. If I remember correctly, the gem finder is one of the powerups you unlock via the Sparx levels in Spyro 3, so not having it from the start of 3 will create an inconsistency between the 3 games in Reignited, but having it will leave an open upgrade slot.
When they first revealed the skateboarding, just watching I knew something was off. The thing I did notice and don't like is how when you jump the camera does that weird zoom motion
Dude~ kbowing you had so much fun with this game! My hype is even bigger then before!!! I always used to play Spyro on my PS1 and he is the whole reason why i love dragons~ I can't wait to play it (;-;) i'm so jelly of you!!
I'm waiting very patiently. Right now I'm playing the 2016 Ratchet and Clank game and I'm taking my sweet ass time playing it. Something to play before the Reignited Trilogy is released.
Faster turning? YESSSSS! That's gonna be awesome. I loved the original controls, but I always found it odd how slow Spyro was when it comes to turning/changing direction when he's not that big. :)
Had a lot of fun playing it! I agree about the skateboarding it took me 3 times to hit that lizard. Idk what happened in Idol Springs, but Stone Hill and Sunny Villa were great. The camera still messed me up. I replayed the ps1 games and I feel like spyro is faster especially when charging.
That is so awesome you got to play it 5 TIMES!!!! I cannot wait to relive these games out! I don't know how plausible and possible it would be, but I wonder if they could release the E3 version of the demo for public Sept. 21st!? I'm fine with waiting for release but i'd also really LOVE to play it now! haha! Also I hope they add a shaking animation and the ambient music when finding the dragon eggs in YOTD, They hatch TOO fast now :o ! I cannot wait for this game though!!!
Which is why they pushed back the release date, Spyro 3 is obviously not complete yet. Or needs more work. For everything they smoothed out in Spyro 1, they wanna tweak to perfection in 3. I get it now. Thanks for the review, Canadian Guy!
I thought that would be the case. Year of the dragon has a ton of different game modes, so it would be a challenge for toys for Bob to nail the gameplay in all of them. Thank God the game was delayed so they could have another look at all the game modes that are in the game
Actually, I have a following question for you: what do you think are major things TfB could do to FIX the issues of the original trilogy? Like, what exactly they could change, aside from visual upgrade, that you think would be welcomed?
if your reasoning of what they may have done with the hitboxes is correct then this answers why some of the sizes of the enemies and characters are different.
One question. Is it possible to turn on Active camera mode like in the originals and then just forget about the right analog's existence? I always played with the Active mode, never moved the camera with the bumpers and it was the perfect camera experience to me, so I'm gonna be pretty sad if they force us to move the camera manually.
If the l3 is the gem tracker on all the buttons then will you still have to unlock it in spyro 3 and if so will we get something different for completing the Sparx level?
Thanks for sharing your experience! It is really reassuring that you had fun playing the demos. I know for certain that this trilogy is going to be amazing, but it is still always nice to hear others confirm it. :) The photo of you and your son was very sweet! It really helps getting first person views when it comes to this sort of game! So happy you got to play spyro!

The closer we are the more hyped I get, I haven’t seen anyone diss the gameplay of Spyro! Shows how great it is!
Hahahaha the pic of you playing with your son ! Epic lol
It's not epic, IT'S ADORABLE
that jumping thing now explains why in our first gameplay view of the skate park the guy playing kept missing that one jump to get above the tunnel.
5:58 Motion blur can mask low framerate, such is the case with Spyro
Thank you for the deep information about the control and stuff like that. 👍🏼

Hey, I was at Fan Expo, too! That said, never found the booth for Spyro.

SOMEONE FINALLY TALKED ABOUT THE SKATEBOARDING JUMP PROBLEM THANK GOD

The reason it feels so smooth is likely the motion blur. Motion blur is a form of temporal antialiasing and Unreal Engine has incredible motion blur.

Maybe you can let Toy's For Bob know the skate park needs adjusting. I'm sure they'd be happy to take a look.
So, can you switch to first person and play the game that way? You. Said it toggles to his point of view using the anolog stick?
I'm now curious if the physics and RNG on some infamous challenges are going to be different.
See what i'm curious about is if those old cheat codes where you can change his color will still be something you can do
