    The Nolan Ryan definitely looks to be within the 60/40 range for which a PSA 10 is possible. It doesn't look off center to me?

    • @Billionaireben
      @Billionaireben 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      60/40 is rarely considered for 10, I think they just put that up so if they mis grade something for a friend (lol, they'd never do that) they have an excuse to save face.

  • @Bradydog-in7ut
    @Bradydog-in7ut ปีที่แล้ว +10

    That’s the gamble you take by opening the box. Back in 1989, Topps didn’t concern itself with centering cards. If you go by the date PSA started tightening up it’s grading standards ( they use to be more forgiving on centering if the card was perfect and not to off-center), there are not many “10”‘a been handed out for this card.

    I think both the Nolan Ryan and Randy Johnson cards have a shot at PSA 10. We all know there are wayyyy worse centering that has gotten 10s from PSA. PSA allow the centering to be a bit off, so I would definitely send those cards in. At worst, I think both cards come back 9s(if so, you are not losing money anyways).

  • @Intensity-qz2jx
    @Intensity-qz2jx ปีที่แล้ว +6

    By PSA's grading written standards, you have a chance to get 10 with 40/60 centering.

    Might this be a circumstance where you'd also want to check the PSA population report for this set to determine what other cards might be worth sending in for grading? There are a number of players with no 9s or 10s on the report for '89 Traded Tiffany. Worth a shot to have the best graded PSA example for resale even for a common player?

  • @brandoncripps
    @brandoncripps ปีที่แล้ว +3

I found some Omar Vizquel Rookie cards and they looked brighter and felt smoother than some 1989 Topps cards I had, but I didn’t know if that was just the difference between 1989 Topps and 1989 Topps Traded. • @snerdterguson

      @@farlow126 It isn’t an opinion. A rookie card is a rookie card. The thing you bring up is precisely why there’s a TRUE rookie. You’re disagreeing with a fact here. Saying you don’t consider it a rookie card is like saying you don’t consider 4 to be more than one.

    • @farlow126
      @farlow126 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@snerdterguson There are many different opinions on what constitutes a rookie card. I do not consider a update or traded card a rookie card if they have a base card just like Dr. James Beckett has for 40 plus years. The 82 Topps Traded Ripken is not considered a RC card in the eyes of Beckett and many collectors. This is the same exact case as the Randy Johnson and Abbott in the 89 Traded set. You saying that these cards are factually RC cards is laughable. Who is the baseball card god that made it so?😂

    The price of the wax and luck ultimately determined the chance of success. I often open cheap oddball wax for grading purposes. In that case you're hoping for a gem mint ryan or rose for the player set collectors. In that case what you pay for the wax is not important given it's cheap rather the discrimination of what you send in ultimately determines one success of the cheap vintage wax side.

    I have this Topps Traded Tiffany Griffey in gorgeous condition. I want to get it graded by Beckett so I can get the subgrades and make it sell more than a PSA 10. PSA doesn't quite speak to this, but for cards where the centering is obvious to the eye, if it looks off centered, is going to max out at a 9. That said, if the Griffey is pretty great otherwise, I thought the centering was a 9 by PSA standards. If it hadn't come from a sealed box, I'd guess it's an 8. You should send the Tom Gordon RC into COMC also, it is sold out and has a 2.50 SWP -- edit: never mind I see it on your list now 😂

    With your selling price range of the sealed sets being in the 500-700 range, and the shape of the box almost guaranteeing it to sell on the lower end, you probably should`ve only paid around 300 for the set.
