  • This is an overview of the integrated PA and In Ear Monitors set up our band uses. It's perfect for small bands in small venues. It features a look at the Behringer X Air XR18 stage mixer and stage box and it's use in conjunction with X Air Edit software, as well as a low cost IEM solution. This won't suit everyone, but it works really well for us.

As a suggested upgrade try the soundcraft Ui24r mixer. It has more inputs and outputs, better preamps and the feedback destroyer built in (and easy to use). It also records all of your channels straight onto multi track on usb thumb drive, which allows you to listen back post gig and remix etc

How well does the feedback destroyer work? I've look at them but, not sure if they are worth it. Space is a premium when putting something like this together. Do you have a splitter in this unit? Great video!

They do work, but they aren't easy to work out how they work - the manual isn't straightforward! We still use the XR18, and we now use 2 feedback destroyers, using them to protect 4 mics with 20 'catches' for each. We use them either on auto as a safety for during the gig (and they do get a lot of frequencies nailed), or at soundcheck by over gaining each mic to force the feedback in the room, and then it finds the bad characteristics of the room and removes that with very tight Q's before the gig. We do now have a 2x8 input splitters, to do the 'send to FOH but retain your own in ear mixes' thing, but in reality we play bars where we use our own PA most of the time so it's more of rarity to have to use them. Hope this helps. We still got all of that very easily into 8U including a separate mic preamp, 2 x Shure IEM's, a separate router, and a power strip.
