@38:00 in is me explaining what "SOUR DIESEL" is to everyone in my whole life. I'm still searching for it from when I had it 10 years ago and after getting to Cali in the Bay Area and finding out that the "Sour Diesel" here really isn't sour diesel at all it has truly been a really awesome experience to know that I have had that strain and am now also on the hunt for the REAL SOUR D! I have to admit that finding out where this story of terpene chasing has taken me has been so cool just hearing all the stories and connecting all the dots. I'd love to see what everyone is doing and has nowdays as to what they think the real sour diesel is or what's close to it as it was. I definitely feel like it's a story that needs to be made more public and that people should have a piece of media to watch to know the whole story. Great story guys! I'd love to meet and smoke with you guys! Blow some glass and talk about bud and grow some good phenos

I love these kinds of discussions. I never have thought fuel smell was particularly appealing. The first time I smelled it was in the early 2000's from a random cross I made with a Shiskaberry female. It smelled super strong and it was potent, but I didn't care for it and sold it to some neighbors. I went years without smelling anything like it, but I wasn't smoking other people's weed.

@Tony Camaj exactly Tony! My life changed when I was working in an amazing dispensary where I got to sample all the flowers that came in. I started smoking regular at 13/14, by 15 got introduced to good mid by 16 my uncle was bringing me "dro" to smoke that he was getting from a country part of PG County. Each time the bud was different and funkier than anything me or my mom was used to. The taste was always earthy and piney. First time meeting sour d I was in the car with my uncle and kept smelling weed yet no one was smoking. Once he pulled it out and cracked the bag that shit was so loud
Yes and it really comes down to who claims credit for being an originator and while the stories these guys tell are true, they’re true for them meanwhile others could have been using chem dog crosses and came out with similar terpene profiles and also been called sour diesel. So many of the genetics had similar parentage
I crossed a super silver haze with a sour diesel back in the day the sour diesel had a natural double cola split at the fourth nude amazing plant was lost because of a nark but about 100 seeds were able to be saved one day I hope to do a hunt maybe it can be found again

@@carrottoponcrak sour is sour pine funk . Headband smells like straight puppy breath. The nastiest funk you can imagine. A nug in the car smells like a few open pounds.
They do seem to be very closely related, they have very similar growing characteristics very vigorous compared to OG .. the headband seemed a little more indica leaning, denser bud structure.. the SD was more likely to stretch and foxtail , both were super skunky but SD was super lemony and both had heavy petrol aromes, seems like they both yielded big in skilled hands 2lbs per light was pretty normal
Snowhigh says there og like gas terps in some alcapulco gold plants, and skunk was meant to have alcapulco gold in the genetics so it would make sense if og and chem are both related to skunk or superskunk
When i go to a dispensary i only buy sativas bc they have a few i cant find that i could grow anything else i can grow and it be better overall for much cheaper.
Awesome discussion! I especially perked up at the mention of AJ's sour diesel being the same as ecsd, and the contention that ecsd is "not really sour diesel". From what I've gathered here in comments and the vid and the net, the aj sour diesel is chemdog x either itself or dnl, or something unknown, still a little confused as to how close that is to real sour diesel... Anyway super interesting because I crossed 3 strains last year with a male who was 2nd generation "AJ's lemon glue"(ajs sour diesel x lemon glue (lemon tree x glue75%)). The male parent - AJ's lemon glue 2nd gen had sisters of varying phenos, the best was a very orange juice smelling lady, all the phenos had strong THC. Never really got a strong gas smell from that strain but it's very nice. So, last year this male pollenated it's 4 sisters, a purple punch, and a Bigfoot glue (basically gg4). I'm really excited about the purple punch cross because it seems to have taken the stalk strength and thick colas of the sativa parent and retained the grape soda of the mom. The one Bigfoot cross I ended up with seems to be the lightest aroma, see how it turns out but not totally stoked yet. posted a vid about a month ago. Just chopped one of the pp 10 minutes ago and gonna bud wash the burnt up forest ash that she's been collecting since August. Thanks for enlightening a new grower of a few years, happy harvesting

@@robbeansman oh they *do* turn it into mids. Sour D is a demanding and difficult plant to grow properly and the commercial growers don't want to take the 10-12 weeks plus that it needs. It was different when it was able to sell for $20+ per gram, making it worth the extra time and effort.
What year u pop them five
Some of these 'thca' hemp breeders claim to have the real deal holyfield stuff
I'd love a netflix series talking about strain history
Back in the late 90s in nyc it was all about hydro, skunk, chocolate, and haze. 2000s came and it was all sour or kush.
39:55 NY Sour Diesel was Soma’s, and was not Sour Diesel (a ChemDog progeny), it was a grapefruit haze or something.
James Loud crossed it with a Tangie and made So Loud For Soma.
Subcools original cuvée had a pheno that was chocolate flavored.
Ya man, cuvee is a great strain, a wonderful high.
@Eris Sanis i believe in subs eyes him saying chocolate he meant chocolate… but I never smelled it myself but I’d say if it’s coffee it’s probably a different pheno of cuvée
I use to get the best Sour D out of WNY and havent seen it since the homies stopped growing it. All the SD in CALI dispensaries are not sour D. It was and still is the best strain I have ever had. the homies use to move bows from 6-8k and you couldnt contain the smell lol.
Cali?

I miss Sativas! I miss the stuff that tasted amazing. I miss the stuff that stank through the double bagging. Stuff that was sticky and stony. Shit that would knock you down. Because you could take 2 puffs and be properly medicated…but if you wanted to get ripped you smoked half a joint. Those were tough times but amazing bud.
I’m sure it’s gonna come back. We just need more time. More quality breeders. More patience lol. I know we are not gonna get the exact cultivars back but might get something close or better with any luck.
Cheers gents. Glad to know I’m not alone in thinking the flowers have been getting more trash over the last 10-20yrs. Time for a comeback!!!!
I thought it was my tolerance or something. I am not satisfied with the bud I've been smoking. Sour diesel is 1 of my favorites. I have discovered that the wax is best for me. Now that I've learned how to do it I'm having trouble with my torches giving out after a big hit. Any suggestions?
Most people don’t grow it because they’re all about money and they want fast harvest
I’m going to try to grow in for myself I’m not doing it for the money I just wanna make the best weed for me
I've had a cut of SD for 12 years now. Found the phenos I liked and kept alive since. Been treating me good ever since! Had to fight to get the cut! SD forever! Looking into TC so I can keep it for ever! The real SD! It'll blow your mind, greasy!
Man you're lucky! I'd love to have a cut of some real sour diesel.
@Eugene Archibald hit me up man, I'd love to save the genetics and have it around again

I went to the first cannabis farmers market in Lucerne valley advertised in high times the facility was trying to sell me some BOG seeds
They didn't look good
I picked up some seeds from a big guy in a straw hat
They were Cosmic Light's
He said it a cosmic kush crossed to the closest queen which was a northern light's
That was used for everything
I never bought seed's again
You fucked up not buying bog

Just a lucky cross of great stuff ..
This guy is so spot on...I was waiting to hear him refer to NY...if he'd said anywhere else he would have been wrong...I was connected to those guys when they went to Holland...but yessir that started right here in NY in my hometown...great interview
It probably was from a skunk variety that was found in the island of Trinidad.
Not fuel over all but a greasy skunky, coffee chocolate, with piney and earthy overtones, and greasy as hell. Gotta wait her out till the open structure pops. And it can get huge 15 foot or more.
Never hear much about shiskaberry . Was popular up here for abit.
@@yverak5504 Trinidad has a lot of unknown gems. The thing about Trinidad is the cannabis farmers never really got a fair chance to select the best genetics since the police and army keep destroying the plantations prematurely.
Here in Southern Oregon Shishkaberry “shishk” was/is so popular. Huge huge plants.
Trying to modernize her now. (Appeal, more crystals, Maybe a Runtz or icc cross.

Yeah also don’t forget that soil biology changes everything so then based on location you’re going to get a different set of biology which will change the profiles making some shit and other stuff amazing.
Great talk tho! I learned a lot!
Great content. Really enjoyed hearing about the history of my favourite strain.
Donating seeds to farmers in southern Oregon, too :-)
Thank Cypress Hill for Kush being huge. They put that Cultivar on the map.
The high Is all about the overall terpene content which drives the high, as well as other trace cannabinoids combinations. The overall thc % is way overrated in most flowers. High terpene content is a stronger high, plain and simple. Max Montrose with the Terpene Institute has some great info on cannabis.
@Tony Camaj exactly Tony! My life changed when I was working in an amazing dispensary where I got to sample all the flowers that came in. Indoor and outdoor and I'm in Humboldt so I got to see alot of amazing flower and I had the test results on everything so it was obvious to me the high terpene content was so important

I'm 28 from Maryland, Severn, MD to be exact. Once he pulled it out and cracked the bag that shit was so loud
silverback og was really good. it was out of Venice beach
Isn't there a theory that diesel was chem dawg crossed with a skunk variety?
Yes and it really comes down to who claims credit for being an originator and while the stories these guys tell are true, they’re true for them meanwhile others could have been using chem dog crosses and came out with similar terpene profiles and also been called sour diesel. So many of the genetics had similar parentage
I crossed a super silver haze with a sour diesel back in the day the sour diesel had a natural double cola split at the fourth nude amazing plant was lost because of a nark but about 100 seeds were able to be saved one day I hope to do a hunt maybe it can be found again
Sour Diesel came from Tegrity Farms. Duh!
mmm kay
Headband and Sour Diesel are sister plants. Those two always came together. I don't trust anyone regarding diesel if they can't tell me something about headband.
Headband is either OG or SD or a cross just renamed lol

They do seem to be very closely related, they have very similar
growing characteristics very vigorous compared to OG .. the headband seemed a little more indica leaning, denser bud structure.. the SD was more likely to stretch and foxtail , both were super skunky but SD was super lemony and both had heavy petrol aromes, seems like they both yielded big in skilled hands 2lbs per light was pretty normal
My first encounter with Sour was from cartoon in like 98....
There was nothing like the sour diesel that was in NYC idk what no one say!
