totally agree. it brings me back to the first time i heard each of these songs. this channel and trevreacts are the only two channels i have notifs on but both are for top reactions 😂🤘🏽
Ode To Sleep is a really lyrically dense song. Worth reading the lyrics Corey. The song is called Ode To Sleep because it's about how as the day ends and night approaches his fears and insecurities return. You'll notice the music is more upbeat when it's day and then sounds darker when it's night. The chorus "Why won't you let me go? Do I threaten all your plans? I'm insignificant. Please tell 'em you have no plans for me. What have I become?" is like a plea to his demons to leave him be. If you are Christian yourselves I suggest listening to an old song called Clear from 2011 where Tyler lays out that he hides the Christian message in his songs and why.
(Corey here) Yo thank you for this reply! I’m certainly about to do a deep dive on these lyrics. A lot of folks have mentioned Clear so now I have to listen to it
Many songs from their pre-trench albums actually are about Tyler's personal relationship with his faith and God. He doesn't usually like to make it obvious so he buries it in metaphors and double meanings. Some of the most obvious examples of these songs are anathema (doubting God's existence. "am I screaming to an empty sky") implicit demand for proof (he is asking God to smite him in order to prove He's real "reign/rain down and destroy me") , addict with a pen (he is looking for reprieve but especially his faith in the "desert" of his mind. "I haven't found a drop of you"), holding onto you (The chorus is about how God is with him and he uses that knowledge to help him fight his demons "You are surrounding all my surroundings... and I'll be holding onto you"), screen (about lying in prayer. "I do not know why I would go in front of you and hide my soul cause you're the only one who knows it"), trees (more trying to find God. "I know where you stand silent in the trees...Why won't you speak where i happen to be?"), the judge ("I know my soul's freezing. Hell's hot for good reason. So please, take me") , and doubt (he is doubting his faith and asks that God does not give up on him because of it. "Don't forget about me. Even when I doubt you, I'm no good without you").
@@thecreativecriticals2354ESSS!! kitchen sink was the first song i heard from top. tbh it was the song i needed at that moment. and top became that band in my life to play when nothing else could distract my mind from the worlds chaos internal as well as external.
@@thecreativecriticals2354 u guys should really react to that…the whole song is about that, I think u guys would really like it especially bc of ur backgrounds
Love this song. They didn't have a name for this song when they started performing it so they set up a table at their show with like 3 name choices that fans could vote on and Ode to Sleep was the most popular.
This was maybe the second song I heard from them other than the big radio hits. I remember when the video started I was thinking this might not be for me but by the end I was all in 😊❤
Yes, this song is def worth a deep lyrical dive. It's like a framework for their approach to music. It has it all - deep, intense lyrics, bright happy sounds, beat switches (time change when their minds change), repeated themes of day, night, heavy, light, happy, chaotic, crowd interaction, energy, zest, piano, synths, drums, uke, and sweaty basements! One of my favorites. Also, you can see the tattoo on Tyler's arm that I mentioned previously. Lovin' the TOP reactions! Addict with a Pen UG Sessions would be a great one to do. |-/ 💛
Ode to Sleep should have way more views than it does - such a great and inspirational video - i know it was made almost 10 years ago now, but even back then most artists I don't think would be humble enough to put out footage of themselves when they weren't big or polished - most would want to portray they've always been stars
This is some of the reason why we love TØP. They never try to act like they are anyone else than themselves. Is so humbling and makes it super easy to relate to them!
Great reaction! It's fun to see how much you are enjoying discovering TOP.
(Corey here) I am LOVING it

This was wonderful insight into Tyler’s mind! Thank you Samantha
this was awesome. can’t wait to see his face when you play kitchen sink for him and zack begins spitting that 🔥🔥🔥
Ok everyone keeps hyping kitchen sink. Time to react to it

Like in their song Clear where he talks about what’s better way to talk about God “yelling on the street corner or cleverly masking your words”
Interesting!!!
